What about Rafael Nadal? Anyway, he is very young so he still have enough time to receive the Award.

We'll find out in the next few days :) I think that the jury is due to meet within the week. But, IMHO, if it's a tennis player they're going to award, they might give it to non-Spaniard: Andre Agassi is retiring this year after a 21-year successful career :flowers:

:clap:Yipee! This is great! I could be clairvoyant  Kidding aside, I hope that Andre would get it. He's not only a legendary tennis player but also a humanitarian -- he would make a very good awardee. Also, if he wins, it would mean the return in Oviedo of a former Prince of Asturias awardee in his wife, Steffi Graff (1999). That would be very special :flowers:

As for Pau Gasol... next year might be his turn. The Spanish team was amazing in the World Championship in Japan. Congratulations, Spain!

The selection of basketball gains Prince of Asturias of Sports
...
The failure of the jury indicates that “the important merit of the conquest of the Championship of the World in Japan, the page most shining of the history of the Spanish basketball, has supposed an overcoming example before the difficulties, of spirit of equipment, simplicity and commitment with the values of the sport”. It adds that “this extraordinary generation of players, led by Pau Gasol and under the technical manual of Jose Vicente “Pepu Hernandez”, it has transmitted to the world, and specially to the young people, one renewed illusion by the promotion and culture of the sport”.

Is this supposed to be an international sports award or does the winners has to have a connection to Spain? If it is an international award it is not very wise to choose their own two years in a row, it looks like the just is not objective. Cetainly there are many more outstanding sports careers to honor than the spanish basket ball team.

With me previously sensing a POA award for Agassi… I have to accept that the tiniest possibility of me being clairvoyant was just knocked off by a basketball :p

But kidding aside, I was thinking the same, Larzen. I was a little bit disappointed with the choice. Not that I don’t like the team because I watched their game on TV and they indeed played fantastic basketball in Japan. It’s just that I was thinking that for a change (especially from having Fernando Alonso last year), the jury might consider conferring it to someone who’s from outside of Spain – after all, the awards wants to reinforce its international image. Moreover, the other contenders had exhibited years and years of excellence in their respective sport, not just in one international tournament. I mean, it did not have to be Agassi as there were other great contenders too, but I’m afraid that the jury might have allowed themselves to get carried away with the excitement over the last few days.

The intention is to celebrate the institutional act in the Council, but the speeches declare and to discover the commemorative plate in the attached park. With posteriority, the procession will move to the field of municipal football, where the different associations of the council escenificarán traditions, trades craftsmen, dances or exhibitions of autochthonous sport. Later, an Asturian espicha will be celebrated, well in the polysport one or in a tent.

The program is completed by a visit of the Princes of Asturias by several nuclei of the council, though the itinerary is still for determining. It is, precisely, in the field of municipal football where a major economic investment is needed, as made clear yesterday the mayor.

According to TVE, Leonor will not travel with her parents to the Prizes Princes of Asturias either.

It seems that the Prince has said that the girl is very little. She has been in Valencia and they have showed her often in Majorca and the girl was more young. So this there is no the one who understands it. :bangin:

why would anyone want a 1 year old at a prize ceremony? She would most likely end up crying or upset in some way during the ceremony and would only be a distraction.

Nobody want her in ceremony, it is evident, but the visit for the Prizes lasts 3 days.

The Princes are Princes of Asturias, Letizia has born in Asturias, the girl is one year old and the only time that they have travelled with her they have done it furtively.

They said that she would travel to Asturias, the own Prince said that they would bring the girl in October.
And nothing of nothing.

Strange. The Princes said in spring that it's probable that they will take Leonor in October in order to present her to the Virgen of Covadonga. They could travel to Oviedo, leave the baby with her nanny or grandmother in the hotel and attend the prize giving ceremony, I think nobody expected Leo to sit with them in the theater during such a long event. Then they could make other activities (visiting this "village of the year") and then present their daughter to the virgen. I think that makes sence, Letizia could travel only once to Asturias. In her state it would be dangerous to travel to Oviedo first for Prizes, then come back to Madrid and then go again to Asturias to visit Covadonga with Leo. Or maybe they don't want to display her at all, at least now? Strange.

I do not understand it either. Because how well you have said the Prince contradicts what the same one has said. I do not believe that for Letizia it is a problem to travel 1 or 2 times, because a when she will be a bit better, she will travel as she did in the previous pregnancy. They have been in Asturias 2 weeks ago, in a very discreet way. They should be clear, and to say that they are going to do, because this makes the Prince stay very badly.

I have the impression that with the pregnancy the plan changed

I speak for the presentation about leonor it is clear that nothing changed for the prices of asturie or come from letizia

I believe that it's some sort of counfusion here. For what I read in Spanish, it seems that Felipe has specifically meant the actual ceremony to deliver the prizes.

So, I guess that the alternative LaChica proposed will be the most plausible one, the girl indeed goes with them, but she stays in the hotel with her nanny while Mom and Dad perform their duties, but I guess that nothing prevents them to stroll with her around Oviedo, does it?;)

I believe that the Prince is not silly,I do not believe that he has thought never that they were asking him about the ceremony. Because I do not believe that it appears it anybody, because it is evident that not correspond that a baby will be in an act like that.

He knows perfectly that when they ask it him, refer if the girl is going to travel to Asturias, because several times the press have done the same question.;)
