I remember it was for years and years and Stephanie and Albert were the hosts. This year it was hosted by James Denton (Desperate housewives) and someone else - can't remember who. I was wondering if they are going to rotate the show to different locations around the world and if this was one of the reasons.

It was in Vegas last year as well. Seems to only be American winners. I thought it had something to do with the fact there was a show a few years ago they considered unfamily like due to the dress I think it was. I have tried to find out why too. Guess only someone in Monaco can answer the question as what happened. To me it being here and only American performers it isn't the World Music Awards anymore. I enjoyed the variety of performers from around the world. I found some I liked from it like Lara Fabian and Enya. I don't listen to Pop music stations it gave such a great look of other cultures in music. Maybe it was partly because it was in Monaco which seems romantic in many ways. Personally I miss the old show having taped several of the shows.

Discovered a hotty on it Enrique Iglesias as well.

The fact that you don't know who the second person hosting the awards show just goes to prove what a huge mistake the organizers made while putting the show together.
 
A reason?

The WMAs were held annually in Monaco until last year, when the event went to Las Vegas. Organizer Melissa Corken denied the reason it moved was her boozy after-dinner speech in 2003 in which she called Prince Albert - who was there - "a lesbian."
A rep for the WMAs did not respond to a request for comment.
 
World Music Awards 2010

The World Music Awards will be held at the Monte-Carlo Sporting Club on May 18, 2010. The proceeds for the event will be used to build the World Music Awards Hospital in Haiti.
 
The World Music Awards were launched in 1989 in Monaco and are
sponsored by Prince Albert. Until 2003 it also took place in Monte
Carlo and was broadcasted live in the United States. Therefore it
was finally moved out of consideration for the U.S. prime time,
2004 to Las Vegas and 2005 in Los Angeles. The World Music
Awards in November 2006 took place in London. Since 2007 it's
back in Monaco.

The aim was also to link the awards to a charitable purpose. The
revenue from sponsorship and television money flows annually into
the Monaco Aide and Presence Foundation, under the honorary
presidency of Prince Albert II.
 
Last year, Monaco Aide et Présence (MAP) celebrated its 30th birthday, in the presence of Prince Albert, but also with appearances of the people on the ground who manage the many projects MAP sustains on all five continents, e.g. in Madagascar, Egypt, Nepal, Niger, Sri Lanka, Ivory Coast, Moldavia, Cambodia, India, Morocco, Mali, Central Africa, Cameroun, Benin, Mozambique, Romania, Brasil..... the list seems endless.

There was the occasion - can't remember how many years ago - when Albert stood up in front of the audience and did the Macarena .....
I found it ever so slightly embarrassing.
 
I'm sorry to say this, but I liked Paris Hilton's dress. It was good to see Deborah Cox and Pharell. They've been pratically MIA. J.Lo was a little too revealing for my taste.

It's really funny, whenever I hear this song and even if it's only a
short part, I immediately see Albert dancing, totally crazy..:D
It's been in the 1990s, but I'm also having problems to remember
the exact date right now.

Stephanie attended in the 1990s, the Casiraghis haven't done so before,
but what really surprised me is that Albert didn't attend this year. The
WMA have come back to Monaco, but no sign of Albert, that's strange.

and he was indeed one of the keynote speakers during that
summit that has taken place on May 18 and 19 in Athen.

You're welcome. He was back in Monaco on the 19th for another event.
 
I thik you're right, Iceflower, it has taken so long for the event to come back to Monaco, so why snub it ??
Someone could have been found, surely, to represent the Grimaldis....
