Congratulations, Colonel Ryan Sweeney, on receiving the prestigious Royal Order of the Sword, the first since 1974, for bridging our nations in defense & camaraderie. Your recognition by is well-deserved!

At the photos we see also Pål Jonson, the Minister for Defence.

My understanding is that Colonel Sweeney, as an active-duty US military officer, holds an "office of profit or trust" under the United States. Does that mean that, in order to accept the Royal Order of the Sword from the King of Sweden, he needs the consent of the US Congress under Section 9(8) of constitution of the United States ?

Does anybody know the answer?

Apparently Colonel Ryan Sweeney wasn't the first to receive the Royal Order of the Sword, but they took place during the state visit to Estonia in May.

I have to say that I find it strange that new Appointments to the Royal Orders aren't published online. Still, we only have diplomatic appointments, so it might change when we see the first appointments of Swedish citizens.

Its a step in the right direction and I'm very please that the king is now allowed to bestow honours on Swedish citizens.

Yes, but Congress has consented in general.

(d) The Congress consents to the accepting, retaining, and wearing by an employee of a decoration tendered in recognition of active field service in time of combat operations or awarded for other outstanding or unusually meritorious performance, subject to the approval of the employing agency of such employee. Without this approval, the decoration is deemed to have been accepted on behalf of the United States, shall become the property of the United States, and shall be deposited by the employee, within sixty days of acceptance, with the employing agency for official use, for forwarding to the Administrator of General Services for disposal in accordance with subsection (e)(1), or for disposal in accordance with subsection (e)(2).

So long as it was approved by the US Air Force (I assume it wouldn't have happened if it wasn't), he's free to accept it and keep the insignia.

The King chaired yesterday a Regular Chapter of the Royal Order at the Royal Palace.
A new foreign member appointed within the Order of Seraphim in 2022 with registry number 886, HM Queen Máxima of the Netherlands, was preferred, as well as the number of foreign citizens who have been awarded the Order of the Polar Star in 2022. The number of deceased holders of the four Swedish orders of knights was also reported at the meeting.
The Royal Coat of Arms painter presented four newly painted Coat of Arms of the Order of the Seraphim, of which two hung in the Hall of the Order of the Seraphim: HM Queen Letizia of Spain and HM Queen Máxima of the Netherlands, while the other two are kept in the order's chancellery.

Is there an image of Queen Letizia's arms?

On 20th December Kungl. Maj:ts Orden (the Orders of His Majesty the King) was visited by the Head of Defence Music, Commander Roger Lodin, and music inspector Leif Karlsson, who handed over notes and scores for the music to be used at the order ceremonies when the royal orders are to be handed over.
The oldest of these are those composed for the Order of the Seraphim by the German composer Georg Joseph Vogler for the Order's Great Day on April 28, 1795, including the Seraphim March/Marche des Chevaliers de l'Ordre des Seraphims en Suéde, which will now be played again. New fanfares have been composed for the Order of the Sword, the Order of the Polar Star and the Order of Vasa, as well as a special procession music that will be played at the ceremonies.

Funny how there's still nothing about the Royal orders. Hopefully this means that we're in for a big and separate ceremony.

On 21 February, the King awarded the H.M. The King's Medals and Litteris et Artibus Medals at a ceremony in Lovisa Ulrika's dining room at the Royal Palace.

Lasse Holm, one of Sweden's leading composers and also a lyricist, singer and presenter, received the "Litteris et Artibus" medal. He tells to Svensk Damtidning that he was very honoured. After the medal presentation, it was time for mingling with the King and Queen. Holm has met the king and queen a few times before, now they sat and talked about memories and so on. Holm talked to the king for maybe 3-4 minutes, the King was in a good mood, relaxed and pleasant as usual. And the Queen is an absolutely delightful woman.

For the first time in nearly 50 years, the Royal Orders of Knighthood have been awarded to Swedes for exceptional efforts. The recipients of the Order have been nominated by the public and the name proposals have then been prepared by the Council of the Order at the Royal Orders of Knighthood. The government has today supported the name proposals and HM the King has subsequently made the formal decision on bestowals.
The awarding of the orders will take place on 31 May.

That's excellent news and well done to all who are due to be awarded!

Not a day too early (but 50 years later than it should have been)

Congratulations to the 13 recipients 👏👏👏
