I'm not sure about the "Swedish Mode" but from my own personal point of view the "Netherlands Mode" and style of monarchy is faultless and rather excellent. It most certainly does not need changing! If ever the "British Mode" was changed, I'd be more than happy with the Netherland's style here in the UK!

I really have no idea why any of the political parties or their members should feel that it is within their remit to make any critisism of the Royal Family whatsoever. These elected individuals are a brief (and a not usually worthwhile) part of the country's history and as such, they should know their place. The Royal Family, on the other hand are living history itself and, costly or not, their worth is far greater than a nasty little MP out to make himself bigger (some hope) at the expense of everyone else.

I am sure Lucien or Susan Alicia (or other Dutch posters) will share the information.

But I am going to go out on a limb and say that AP lawsuit didn't win him any fans.

You're limping elegantly, but no,it didn't have to do with the AP lawsuit.
That is nothing and long forgotten already.

It's about the upheavel over the project in Mozambique. The Prince and Princess have issued a statement today, read out by the PM in Parliament today that they will remain involved in the Mozambique project and for all the reasons they started being involved in the first place, privacy, their love for Africa and the chance to develop and help the locals.I have no reason not to believe them in that, nor their love for Africa, and the project and what it stands for in their best expectations and motivations.

A parliament discussing this as well as other matters concerning the Monarchy,ao,the costs of flying by the RF and that they should for that themselves.Really,it is a first since decades and would not have been necessary at all had the PM done his work better as he should have.It is in the Constitution that he is responsible for the Royal House. These matters are for discussions within the Palace walls as they always have been and ONLY there. That is part of his task and he fails totally in this,as in many other matters, whatever the RF does,HE is responsible and should take responsibility at all times,THAT is within the borders of his function and all,the RF and we,should rely on that.At present no-one can due to his bad performance.

Really to deal with people and simplex gigantica that say it would be good for the RF to sell some of their palaces while we're all in crisis and all that nonsense,as first they do not own any of the palaces and second, crisis?here?A HYPE of sorts, most dutch don't feel the first thing of a crisis, most dutch still fly out and about with ease 2 to 3 times a year but complaining is a second nature to many people and because of that alone I reject and ignore that totally. The crisis has not hit the Netherlands to the extent it did in other parts of the world where the greed bubble burst first.Giving in to the hypes of the vox populi does more harm then anything else and I for one won't have it.

Note:
As if a president and his entourage would fly while standing in line with their creditcard...NO,ofcourse not,but hey it's winter and there's nothing else going on worthwhile in the Netherlands let alone the world today,so why not bash the RF?It is that, and again that joker PM made it a poor performance while dealing with a parliament that is partially, the larger chunck at least, absolutely ignorant on the how and what of the Monarchy due to their own interest of riding the waves of what the vox populi wishes for so they be voted for again,to be forgotten again day after tomorrow. It has been like that since the dawn of mankind, and it isn't different now.A new sort of give 'm bread and games.I have absolutely nothing with that and refuse to go in to nonsense while all others do,I am not all others, never was,and I am no way part of a caddle either.

Could someone give a brief summary of the Mozambique issue? I know WA and Maxima have built/are building/want to build a home there, and for some reason that's a problem, but I don't follow them enough to know much more. Thanks.

Are the Prince and Princess of Orange the main target of the criticism, or are people upset with the Queen and other members of the family as well?

Maura, see this thread, there is lots of discussion about the issue there ;)

Agree completely...

Our PM did some fantastic damage control in parliament...

In the USA they frown upon the attitude of Willem-Alexander and Maxima towards the press.. People with such high profiles should be 'visible' is their argument..

What they frown upon "over there" is passed by what we frawn upon looking "over there".old theme Bart, already forgotten here.:)

And,there was a mini Prinsjesdag last week, children came up with their wishes and one was proclaimed "Queen" for a short while and sat in the Hall of Knights, reading out aloud the childrens speech from the " Throne"...,actually,the Mini Queen had a chair,but...In front of the real Throne.Look what fun it was.The Children sort of wished, demand,a official council consisting of children and wish to be heard on matters regarding kids.Great!!:p

There was a delay due to an incident.Someone threw a glass candleholder at the Golden Coach. Therefore HM will leave the Palace later as a short investigation was carried out first. The perpetrator was arrested,a 29 year old guy from the town of Winterswijk.Infuriating,a good beating and rearranging his clockwork would be in place,I am fet up with the way too slumpy judicial system that leave others in the misconception they can do what they like especially during official events,we saw it on may 4th,Queensday last year and now this again.Enough!.They can´t,and if the Law doesn´t do enough, citizens should get together and act and pay this creeps a visit they won´t forget. I´m furious really.

HM and TRH just arrived at the Hall of Knights.

I'm hate this for the Queen's security having to deal with this creep. Here all this work goes to create this magical event, all these excited people waiting and someone has to ruin it. I'm sure everything will be alright but it must be so unnerving to the RF!!

I Love the Queen and Maxima's dresses! They look perfect for the occasion!

Oh but it is.And to all of us,god forbid but it´s almost becoming a `trend` to disrupt these occasions.Sad.

On a lighter note, during the balcony scne as we call it,people from the Twente region let a bunch of balloons up with a message attached to it reading something like `Our turn in 2011` pointing at their wish to host the HM and the Royal Family
on Queensday next year.HM and her Family were in stitchess and clearly appreciated the whole thing.Good for them! And as we say here±

Leve de Koningin!

Beautiful outfit on Princess Màxima!
It reminds me a bit of the purple outfit she wore a few years ago on Prinsjesdag, a bit 20's-30's Queen Astrid like style.

Are you suggesting that people should take the law in their own hands?
I am just as outraged as you, but I think this is not the way to handle these kind of situations!
By the way; your facts are not correct. The incident did not happen before the Royal Family left Noordeinde Palace, but shortly after they left.
There was no delay in the program. Everything went according to plan.

I know, they had just left the Palace Hendrik-Jan.What I want is a much more strict judicial system that takes care of this sort of idiot acts appropiatly, and doesn't leave those knuckleheads be so fe the press can make documentaries on 'm like happened to the nut that screamed at the Dam Square on may 4th.He was the star of a documentary and visibly enjoyed the attention. That is the world upside down indeed in my book!
Over 60 people got injured and traumatised by the hectic / scare at the time, remember? We can not leave that unpunished,so I fervently hope the judicial system, which is an absolute farce, will be well taken care of by the new government.Btw,there already are guards consisting of civilians in many municipalities, nothing new there.

Thanks for the photos!:flowers:
Prinsjesdag 2010 was spectacular as usual. Ladies added a special touch to this event by wearing inventive pieces of millinery. At the same time, I wonder why Crown Princess Maxima, but not Her Majesty Queen Beatrix was the first to get out of the carriage.
