Being thrust into the royal limelight would be quite intimidating, I imagine. They've only been married less than a year. I'd like to think that as Princess Marie becomes more and more comfortable being a royal, we'll see her stand more apart from her husband. All those flashing cameras, having to walk in a gown on high heels, the possibility of a trip-up... all these would make ME hold on to my husband if it were me.

Completely agree...how daunting must it be turning up to an event, with camera flashes going off and knowing that your every move will be in the public domain in a matter of hours...personally I would feel very awkward. By holding on to Joachim at least she's doing something..I used to get the same impression from Letizia in the early photo shoots with Leonor - she used be forever pulling at her, but I put it down to the need to be doing something rather than just standing there in front of the cameras. I guess like you say it's a matter of developing confidence.

Actually that is exactly it she never looks polished....

Yes, she's got the looks --- she just needs expert guidance and maybe, a bigger clothing allowance. Her clothes tend to look cheaply made and fit very poorly.

Some members get upset when she is compared to Mary, but look how immaculate and wonderful Mary always seems to look.

Mandy I completely agree with you regarding MM but it didn't seem the place to say it here on this thread thought I would get a telling off from mods and that is worse [MM I mean] as she will be Queen. It still doesn't help ol' Marie in he current situation. She needs to be highly polished look at the Queen's sister their is still expectations of her and she is terrific. Yes born into it but none the less standards have been set and need to be maintained and that is that.

As I said before in a previous post, and I will say it again. Marie is just not 'polished', she 'misses the mark, and the spark', that '"certain something", the "elegance" that sets a HRH apart from All others! It is almost beyond my ability to put into words and I just do not know how else to explain it. She just doesn't have IT. Hopefully she will get IT with time but I really think not. Hopefully, I am totally Wrong!!!!

to be honest, i thought the same of mette marit and mary, and look at them now! they really got that "extra something". i think the same will happen with marie. i also think she is much more low-key than her sister-in-law and her role will also be more low-key, therefore the difference in the attitudes.

I agree with Carlota. Marie has made statements before where she has said that she is not overly concerned with fashion. I love her casual style. She (IMO) looks best when she is dressed casually. I think that as time goes by, her formal appearances will improve. She's just starting out, and is getting used to the royal life. Also, she is pregnant, so she's probably still trying to figure out what she can wear comfortably, and what she can't. I like Marie, and I am looking forward to seeing how her style evolves (or doesn't).

I love the brown dress she wore with those high brown boots it suit her very well that kind of dresses and casual dresses she looks lovely on that type of clothes!!

Agree that Marie looked very regal from the neck up. She is certainly a beautiful woman, as is Mary. Problem for Marie starts with the low neckline, continues with oversized fur and end with the somewhat clunky looking, not gala, shoes. A color match is not enough for such an event in my opinion.

She and Joachim do make a striking couple and I like the way he escorts her, not leaving her to her own devices going up stairs, etc., in a long gown.

While Mary's look was more flawless, there are issues with the hem and seam of the skirt. They look pulled and badly pressed, not at all regal.

It would be nice to see Frederick offering his arm to his wife now and again.

I think P Marie look great in the blue galla dress, but I do prefer the fur on animals......:whistling:

About the shoes, they are not pretty, but she might have chosen them for comfortable reasons due to her pregnancy.

Sorry Sassy. Just another example of what I am trying to say. Patent leather with a gala, formal gown?!! How does one ignore that fact? One doesn't and That is why I say she just misses the mark...

She certainly misses the mark. Marie simply doesn't have much of a fashion sense. You either have one or you don't. Over time if you want to you can develop one. However, Marie has said that she isn't very concerned about fashion.

I don't think that a larger clothing allowance would be of much help to her, if she doesn't know what to buy. She has yet to learn about good color choices for herself or even appropriate shapes and styles. If Marie ever thinks that she needs to make a change, she will.

A lot of princesses wore questionable things when they were first thrusted into public view. A lot of them make questionable fashions choices now. I think that only time will tell.

I do think, however, that Marie's hair and makeup were lovely.

Well said, Isabelle, but hair and makeup can only take you so far.... And it's not as if Marie did that herself but rather a hair stylist and a makeup artist did it for her! If Only she would ask...

Her hair is fantastic :flowers: She's a pretty girl made of "royal material" in my opinion, she just has to work more on her style after her pregnancy.I'm sure she will manage to reach the top 3 one day (my top 2 are Rania and Mary) ;)

Now, if we could only get a good look, or indeed any look, at the front of the dress I would be more than a little happy.:ermm:
have a look at the previous pages ; there were posted alot of pictures of the dress :D

Perhaps alot of pictures were posted but None of them actually showed the whole dress!! All we saw was the full shirt, her bosoms, the fact that it had off-shoulder straps and she was clutching a huge stole over the entire rest of it!! It is such a shame as it does appear to be a lovely gown.....

I have been searching for photos of the dress without the fur wrap. I was really curious about the bodice. Unfortunately, I haven't been able to find any.
:bang: I loved the color, and from what I can tell, it looks like it was a square neckline with the little capped sleeves.

I have been searching too. It looks like Marie held onto that wrap for dear life. :nonono: I would really love to see the entire dress without the fur.

Isn't this Marie's first ultra-formal engagement? I think she lookd excellent, dress,hair,makeup,posture..............and I love the manners Joachim displays toward his wife,
the shoes could have been better---but maybe they were the only "comfortable" pair she had that kinda went with her gown.

Patience, ladies, :D one day she will recycle it :previous:

Her hair looks really lovely in this style.

Finally!!!! She looks lovely and happy and the extra bit of weight on her face looks really good too. She looks less severe. Her dress is a pretty colour too.

Marie looked lovely at the concert. Her skin was glowing and her hair was beautiful. The light lilac color she was wearing was very good for her.
