Pavlos proposed marriage to Marie-Chantal on a ski lift in Gstaad, Switzerland, over the Christmas holiday in 1994.Following the proposal, Pavlos formally asked Marie-Chantal's parents for their permission. Pavlos's parents, Constantine II and Anne-Marie of Greece, officially announced the engagement from their residence in London on 11 January 1995.

How they met:

Pavlos and Marie-Chantal met in 1992 in New Orleans, where they were invited to Philip Niarchos' 40th birthday celebrations. To be precise, it was a blind date arranged by Greek-American Alexandros Papamarkou. He thought that Marie-Chantal would be the ideal match for young Prince Pavlos.

"Alekos not only made sure we both showed up at the same place, but he also had us sit next to each other at dinner," recalls Pavlos. "And it clicked," said Marie-Chantal. "It was love at first sight. I knew he was the man I was going to marry." Pavlos finally proposed during the 1994 Christmas break on a cable car in the Swiss resort of Gstaad.
