Please forgive my ignorance but if I don't ask I won't learn; why is Estelle so blonde when her parents both have brown hair?
 
My first answer was that blond is a recessive trait, but it seems that the genetics of hair colors are pretty complicated :flowers:

(and maybe her parents had ligther hair as children, too? It's not that uncommon to have pretty light hair as a child that gets much darker when you get older)

Not uncommon. My parents are both brunettes before they went grey, as is my sister from infancy. I was blonde until I was about 10, and then started darkening.

Estelle and Oscar are so cute. Love the birthday photos, and cathedral :flowers:

Love seeing Estelle out with Daddy for burgers ?

Their little cousins cheering on mom was so adorable.

Thank you for those pictures, it looks like Madeliene has always had light hair though not as blonde as Estelle, yet her own daughter is a pretty golden blonde as well; I wonder if both take after Madeleine in that regard. I Was just wondering and I admit the older I get the less I understand genetics.

Genetics are a fascinating world. Most of us receive traits from our grand parents instead of our parents, in my case for example I'm a natural golden blonde, my parents are both dark haired as were my grandparents except for my paternal grandmother she was blue eyed blond, she had 8 children only two of them were strawberry blond but all born with dark brown eyes, me and my paternal cousins have different hair and eye colour, I'm the only blond from my maternal side, but have very dark brown eyes, black eyebrows and lots of black lashes, so many people think that I dye my hair.
So Estelle and Oscar being light haired must be a trait inherit by King Carl Gustav and ascendants, we don't know must of Daniel's family, but might also be a possibility.

Estelle is more of a dirty blonde, I would say. It's not uncommon for Caucasian children to have blonde hair as kids, which darkens with age.
 
Have a round of adorable new royal babies. Stefan and Elisabeth are both so sweet. The pictures of Stefan were very formal, for a moment I thought it was a baptism (with all the family together, and baby in white with what looked like a long gown but now realize was just the blanket I believe).

Of course the third being the new little princess of Sweden.

Indeed, it is common. Both of my brothers were dirty blond as children and now have light brown hair. I, on the other hand, always had dark brown hair, which caused many people at school to ask if my brothers and I had the same father and mother.

Estelle is always adorable but I love the photo with the cat. Too cute ?

Surprised to see a cat. Bringing a dog to an event is one thing. Not sure I have ever seen someone bring a cat. Wish they did, I am such a cat lover. Wish more royals were cat people, need more royal cats.
 
I suppose this is a good place to state a familiar adage that pertains to why we don't see too many royal cats.

Dogs think they're human. Cats *know* they're gods. :hiding:

I also love that photo of Estelle with the cat. She is one little girl that is very photogenic and her personality just shimmers.
 
Estelle has more charm and personality than should be legal. That photo of her seeing eye-to-eye with the kitty is priceless! :lol:?

P.S. She is also the lucky recipient of a loving set of parents. Makes all the difference. It shows.
