    Diana and James Hewitt

Little seems to be known of the number of love letters from Diana, as to the sale of them. A while back it was said they had not gone to auction, since his asking price was considered to be high, at roughly 16 million. If that's the case, then he would today still be the rightful owner of them.

Diana, Princess of Wales: Statue Unveiling - July 1st 2021

In the span since the unveiling.. of those that have since visited the gardens in person, have some elevated their opinion on what was regarded at first, somewhat dull, lackluster outcome ? Time can often change perspective.

    Paul Burrell, Diana's Former Butler

Lacking a certain amount of expertise in how the legal system works in Britain, whether one is obligated to prove innocence. There was no opportunity to address the court, two weeks of proceedings highlighted the evidence gathering.. When it was about to happen to defend himself, Elizabeth...

Alleged. And yet it took all of a few minutes to reverse course after Queen Elizabeth conferred with them. What some said was an iron clad case, withered.... in 5 minutes time ...

    Paul Burrell, Diana's Former Butler

It's clear he never anticipated he would have to portray himself one day as a simple dyed in the wool butler, in order 'not' to offend the public in Diana's memory. With her front and center, disparaging remarks toward him were few, but what many don't seem to condone is the idea of someone who...

    Paul Burrell, Diana's Former Butler

Did you read anything I wrote ? You and others have put across the idea that her 'primary' motivation was not the charges to Paul or his case, but simply looking out to prevent royal family discomfort.

Her act ?? By extension, she didn't really give a hoot about jurisprudence or the case itself, just took it upon herself to impose personal and privacy matters above all else. ..I don't think so.

    Paul Burrell, Diana's Former Butler

Whether she did on the theory above is an assumption being made. We can hazard a guess why the Queen intervened to save him, but none of us can say with full confidence why she did. The truth > could be, that she did not find the charges credible or convincing, and saw others trying to 'put his...

And certainly not because she had once known him, the kind of person she felt him to be, and simply got involved for private and family reasons ?

    Paul Burrell, Diana's Former Butler

I have to agree it certainly wasn't a 'good look' with the number of items found in the home, but when the Queen intervened on his behalf, does that not tell you that mitigating factors were in fact, involved at the time ? :queenelizabeth:

    Paul Burrell, Diana's Former Butler

It's clear that he wasn't making the best sound decisions, but the idea that he was charting a 'main chance' for transactions with private collectors is out of a Stephen King novel.

Pension funds are one thing, but can you point to a specific item, verified example, of him attempting to sell something or even a thank you note from Diana ? The collector market indicates she apparently sent many such notes to people all over the world, and are up for sale today. A whole other...

    Paul Burrell, Diana's Former Butler

Clearly he was grief stricken, which very few people seem to bring up or mention about him. It would be very interesting to hear how a process would work to one day profit from her wardrobe in any way shape or form.. not in a million years.

    Paul Burrell, Diana's Former Butler

The mention of taking her things.. do you honestly believe that he had some ulterior motive, an interest in their monetary value, selling, or the like ? The assertion completely glosses over his emotional state at the time.. one of the most grief stricken people in the world. Shock and sorrow...

Notice also, a stark contrast of his reflections of his time spent working for the Queen vs: Diana. If he was that much disposed to exaggerating his role, why not do the same sort of thing with Elizabeth ?

    Paul Burrell, Diana's Former Butler

Yes, but is it fair to blame him if in fact he approached the standard of a 'best' friend at various times in her life. True he must have felt considerable pride knowing she not only relied upon, but had an affection that transcended the rest of her staff.. Did he exaggerate his importance...

Last Hours, Death, Transfer from France, Funeral and Interment

I was a little surprised in revisiting original broadcasts of the night in Paris, that in hindsight they don't seem to carry much of the tension of the night, hearing events unfold, of the Mercedes and passengers involved. I don't know if Patrick Doyle's 'Sense and Sensibility' inspired 'Time'...

Interesting, well made points. The implication however seems to be that a grand spectacle will somehow tarnish, or be seen as an 'embarrassment' to the country rather than giving folks something to proud of, with economic issues of late.

The term came to mind a few years ago, seeing the Jaguar at Harry's wedding --- stripped of it's engineering heritage and brilliance. There are few sights in the world that make the type of visual impact expertly groomed horses and tack do. Yes, no ?

Charles III: Coronation Information and Musings - Part 1

There is some concern that centers around the strength and stamina of a horse. In that light they might want to consider looking at a few other breeds. If the coronation becomes a rolling commercial for electric vehicles it would be an abomination imo...

And one of the few metals that does not tarnish like silver or copper, in nugget or gilded form. As long as horses are not pulling a carriage up hills for whatever distance, it cannot be asking that much of them.
