If there was a poll for worst dress worn by Kate..this would be my number 1 pick.

LaRae

Me too!

I think it's hideous.
I don't know why Erdem garners so much praise; I rarely like any of the clothes.

This has got to be one of her worst looks ever. My god. Who actually approved of this? Not to mention it seems entirely out of place when most women are wearing cocktail type dresses and she is in a gown.

Dumb question, but I've never been pregnant, so wondering if wearing a sash or belt doesn't get a bit uncomfortable at times?

I am not a fan of this dress ...and I am one of the few who loved the red and blue Erdem Alouette gown). I dont care for the style nor the seemingly mustard color fabric ...however, it does seem to be a richer gold and a little more pallatable in some of the more recent images coming out and those who have seen it in person have been more complimentary. But adding to this strange dress was the matronly way she styled her hair; was no lift - just a straight pull back bun. Along with the high collar - it was just not her best look - and it aged her so. Victoria defintely looked the younger of the two women this evening.

After such a great start - loved both of her day stylings today ....... i expect great things the rest of the tour... but this one was a miss.

the dress is not my favourite on kate, but i like the print, which is rather upbeat. the neckline is just not working for me, but i think the rest of the dress could have looked nice with a more becoming neckline. anyway, nice to see her trying out new stuff rather than resorting to the usual jenny packham!

Thanks, everybody on this board for your brilliant, objective and undeniably honest opinion on Catherine's glad rags. Curtains! Hideous! "Interesting"! Ugliest! Vomit inducing! Bin worthy! Worst dress Catherine had ever worn! And would look good in a bin!

What a splendid way to start the day and I cannot disagree with any one of these comments and apologise for those I didn't quote. Poor Catherine obviously had a momentary taste break, mustard is never a good look on anyone and she must have been tired when the Erdem "person" told her it looked wonderful she took their word for it.

I really don’t like this dress. I mean, really. I don’t even know what else to say. That’s the risk of trying something different, I guess, sometimes you miss the mark.

I try really hard to never compare one royal's style with an other's. No one benefits and the arguments always sound like what twelve year olds say.

That said I had the same reaction to Vic's day dress and Kate's evening style. I was overwhelmed and confused by both. I could pick out a bit of either and make peace with it but then another aspect would rear it's ugly head and I felt dazed. In defense of both the ladies - there is a lot of this print/texture/fabric/ruffle/poof/pleat stuff going on in couture these days. Both royals have obviously been seduced.

And I was totally amazed that the DM headline was impressed by Kate's evening look. A "down the rabbit hole" day if I ever saw one.

Catherine's evening dress is, for me, a case of liking the fabric and liking the design but not on the same dress. I'm wondering if the fabric would have been better suited to just a jacket or skirt?

I do love the neckline and the 70's vibe, it's very feminine and delicate but would suit, perhaps a lighter fabric in a lighter shade (I can't resist posting this photo as an example of a highneck dress:

I loved the green coat and fur hat look, but... the mustard dress... err umm... i think i'll stay in the 'if you can't say anything nice, say nothing at all' category :whistling:

An beautiful and elegant coat. Love the look.

The green coat is fabulous!

I am not sure about those fur hats, but she seems to love them, and they are becoming on her.

This outfit is amazing. Not only do I love the dress, but the green coat is very regal and beautiful. One of her best coats.

I find the gold dress terrible. I love the print but I find this dress to much. Although its interesting, it's one of her worst looks.

Get rid of the neckline, ridiculous bell sleeves, dust ruffle attached to her knees and destroy the design.... and the dress just might be passable.

I can't believe my eyes in front of this horror frock....I think the fabric would have been nice in a little garment.... not a full long dress ! On the contrary the green coat is to die for !!!! Perfect !

I guess I am the only person here who thinks Kate's dress was much nicer than what Victoria was wearing.

I’m with you. I dont like the Erdem. Too, too much going on. Pleats ruffles etc etc. Simplified a la 30s style and it would have worked.

However, I do like the fact she tried something different. People do complain that she doesnt try anything different. She has so thats ok.

Neither were successful with the clothes tonight but liked the hair and jewels for both.

But for the day, wow do I have a lot to catch up with today:

I love the casual look. Love, love, love. The coat is amazing, I'd steal it. I even love the Canadian boots and the toque. :flowers:

The green coat is great. I even like the fur trim. ?

That said I hate the hat. And I find the pants under it just bizarre. If it was too cold out for her to just wear her dress, she should have worn trousers.

The green dress is pretty. Love the color. But its plain. Needs a necklace.

The evening look is hideous. The mustard color is not flattering, and the material makes me think upholstery. The ruffles, the sleeves, the neck, the over all style screams 50s housewife who is hosting a dinner party for her husband's boss. The print just sends it OTT.

Add to it the matronly hair style, and the high fly she was on fashion wise today, just did a nose dive into the ground.

I hate everything about this gown!!! After two successful outfits for today, I wonder what she thought when dressing with this mess.

The mustard color is a no no, the print is horrible and the style is not my cup of tea at all! But I applaude her for trying something new, though she didn't manage to succed it.

Now I'm actually quite curious to see what she has in store for Norway's evening appearance.

Actually I like this print, but it's horrible to see a whole floor length dress is in this pattern. I think it may be better if the skirt is shorter, or the print only uses on the skirt.

A dust ruffle or a bedspread with a skirt attached. Really appalling as a dress. Wonderful earrings and pearl bracelet

I think the dress design and the bold color/print were at war. It was too much. A simpler dress in that fabric or the design in a different fabric might have been prettier. But it was bold and different.

The pattern itself isn't too bad, in small amount. If different color (not mustard) and in say a pencil skirt with a simple blouse, it would be much better.

She looked great in the outdoor shots (..)

I think she looked really great at the outdoor events. I especilly liked her first outfit with that pom pom hat. Her evening dress looked lovely but those ruffles were a little overkill with this kind of print fabric.
