Wish good luck to their family!!!

Congratulations Duke and Duchess of Vendôme

Congratulations to the couple. :flowers:
Gaston is a lovely name for a little Prince.

So happy for them and for the Duchess of Montpensier !
Gaston was such an used name in French Monarchy long ago !!!
Let's hope there will be details and pic soon !

Congratulations to the dukes! The new prince is a Scorpio.. I like it!
Gaston is a lovely french name, but wasn't it the name of a controversial duke of Orleans (the brother of Louis XIII)?? The name could be better so..
He will be probably just happy to have a new cousin, but in theory the sex of the child isn't good news for little prince Pierre :whistling:

Gaston, duc d'Orléans (1608-1660)
from Wiki
Third son of Henry IV, King of France and Marie de' Medici;
Continually plotted against his mother and Cardinal Richelieu;
Reconciled with his brother Louis XIII, he plotted against Richelieu in 1635, fled from the country, and then submitted to the king and the cardinal;
Stirred up Cinq-Mars to attempt Richelieu's murder, and then deserted his unfortunate accomplice (1642);
During the wars of the Fronde (1648–1653), he passed with great facility from one side to the other.

Perhaps the last two sentences above sum up his character. :D

Congratulations to Duke and Duchess of Vendome! :flowers::flowers:

Congratulations to the happy parents!

Congratulations to Prince Jean and Princess Philomena!
But most of all, welcome Gaston!

Congratulations to Prince Jean, Princess Philomena, and to all the faithful supporters of the Orléans family. This is a day of great joy for all who appreciate the historical traditions embodied by the House of France.

A toast to little Gaston: May he live a long, healthy, and meaningful life.

C
heers!

Congratulations to the couple and may little Gaston be a very happy and helathy child.

Congratulations to the parents !!!
Gaston is very pretty name :wub:

There is a more recent Gaston in the family, Madame's grandfather Gaston d'Orléans, who was married to the Princess Imperial Isabel of Brazil. I know nothing about him, but he sounds like a better namesake than that 17th Century Duke!

The most recent Gaston d’Orléans was probably Gaston, Count of Eu (the son of Louis, Duke of Nemours, who himself was the son of King Louis-Philippe, and Victoria of Saxe-Coburg-Kohary).

Some of the namesakes of the little Prince were mentioned here.

In fact, Gaston is an old french name, rather rare inside this family, not melodious name. And in France, today, very ridiculous name because of famous cartoon Gaston Lagaffe and because of a popular song from Nino Ferrer.:ROFLMAO:
Nobody in France would like to have a King Gaston the first ! It's like to have Dagobert the first (now popular name for dogs)!
It seems a practical joke!

Pity boy.
But maybe he restored this name. I mean in good way.

Don't worry, maybe he will use his second, third.....tenth name. I hope for him. Otherwise he will be beaten at school.

His mummy is from Spain and Austria. For her it sounds maybe like an elegant and noble name.

Well, if a commoner can't bear this name, maybe a Prince can...
Something similar to our Prince Aimone of Savoy: I can't imagine a "commoner", a "normal person" (I hope you understand what I mean) carrying this name, but for a Prince of Savoy...it's all different, and this name becomes bearable.
Or another example, the name Gaddo: if I called my son Gaddo, all the people would laugh of it, but if the Count della Gherardesca calls his son Gaddo...it's all ok, quite "normal".

Well, let us hope that, in one way or another, this little boy finds a bearable way to carry this name. At this time it is not easy to live in France and be called Gaston... it is rather a burden to be overcome.

How wonderful.
Congratulations to the pair. :flowers:

I like the name Gaston- Congrats to the Royal French Family!

Congratulations to the Duke and Duchess! I'm looking forward to seeing the baby photos.

Yes, Gaston doesn't sound too bad to American ears... but in France it's the equivalent of calling a baby "Norbert" or "Dagobert." Truly a burdensome name.

What complicates matters further is that there is a prominent Gaston, Duke of Orelans (brother of Louis XIII) in the history books. He was a grand conspirator, attempted murderer, and betrayer... really not the most laudable character, who changed allegiances from one side to the other for the sake of convenience and without regard to principle. (See Warren's post #9 above).

But, of course, in naming their son Gaston, the Duke and Duchess of Vendome must have been thinking of honoring the late Countess of Paris (grandmother of the Duke), whose own grandfather was Gaston, Count of Eu. (Hanna Regina #16).

Congratulations to the pair & french royal family! :flowers: But I must admit that I too am not very fond of the name... ;) I was expecting something more elegant and special. However, its their choice and therefor all the best for the baby boy.
