The Family of Crown Princess Mary - The Donaldsons

If you have answers, please help by responding to the unanswered posts.
If Fred and Mary use commercial airlines in their travels (as Joachim and Marie seem to), they could give their earned mileage to her family without incurring "expenses", I suppose.

Also, when living in palaces, surely there are enough bedrooms / bathrooms to accommodate family members. I can't imagine a palace that doesn't have extra rooms for that. Having them stay in hotels is not something I would expect. Maybe I'm mistaken, but it seems reasonable for them to stay in the same place as the royals.

Provided the guests are footing their own hotel bills there should be no public interest. Palaces are notoriously drafty, cold, with bad plumbing; and staff are generaly surly - if you can extricate them from in fron of their tv. Better stay at a nice B & B and know your hosts do really care abouit your comforts.

J and A have an apartment in Amalienborg in Copenhagen. I would think that when her parents came for the birth that there would have been rooms available for them right there (as one has in a private home).

Mary's father opened an exhibition/conference on climate change in Copenhagen. John was invited to speak at the opening.
He was joined by his wife Susan.

J & A?
I imagine when Mary gave birth both times, they stayed at Chancellery House with the parents. :flowers:

How long are the Donaldson's remaining in Denmark? Will they stay thru Christmas, or will they spend Christmas in Australia ?

I don't think it was ever mentioned how long they were there for. I don't imagine they will be there for christmas. :)

I think that it depends upon the length of his contract. I can't remember if his contract was just for this fall, or if spring was included.

Earlier in the year it was mentioned that he would do a 2 week stint in the Spring and 2 weeks in the Fall.

Excerpts from interview in Billed Bladet #22, 2010.
Vi er to lykkelige nomader - We are two happy nomads.
Written by Anna Johannesen.

Who went to France, where John Donaldson and Susan Moody lives.

John will not discuss the DRF, except stating: "I couldn't have had a better son-in-law (svigersøn) than Frederik".

JD: "...but we haven't been in Denmark together since Frederik turned 40 and that is now two years ago. We are also very excited to see the new mansion with all the magnificent pieces of art (Amalienborg). We've seen some of it on the Net, but that's not quite the same".

SM: "John loves discounts, so one of the things I was very careful about in Denmark was if he suddenly spotted a box with shoes on Strøget (the main pedestrian street in Copenhagen) and then began to look at the content. Mary's father! Oh God. That would be so terrible. We don't know when we are being photographed and for that reason I've also gone in a big arch around boxes with cheap bras in purple and green colors".
Q: Are you always recogniced in Denmark?
JD: "Yes, always, but Susan is much more aware of that than me. Occasionally I see someone turning around, but that doesn't bother me, because people are sweet and kind".
SM: "Yes, certainly, but I'm a very shy/modest person and I don't like it. When we were in Peterhof, the summer residence of the Russians tzars in Skt. Petersburg an entire party of Danes came rushing and said: - Surely you are the Donaldsons, right? - In Paris we are also recogniced and just before leaving tasmania a Danish couple approached John in a supermarket in Hobart and asked if he wasn't Mary's dad. I have the impression that to some people meeting us is about the highpoint of the holiday".
She laughs and adds how buses with tourists stop beneath the balcony in Hobart to get a glimpse of her and John.
SM: "Sometimes we just sit in a pyjamas or morning-robe and enjoy our morning coffee, while people are milling out from a bus. Then I rush inside while John wawes - sort of royalty-like, you know".
JD: "Sure I don't. I just keep reading the paper".

Sounds like they are both enjoying their newly found fame.

So Bella and Christian must have been flown to France, if they were looked after by their grandparents when Mary and Frederik were on holiday?

Thay might have gone down there with Fred and Mary and were dropped off at John's place, so to speak!

I think John and Mary look the most alike of the siblings; I guess you have to look hard for the resemblance because he is balding.

This I agree with. Mary looks very much like her brother.

What education does Mary's sisters have and does anyone know what
the occupation of Patricia's new husband is?

Also I always wondered how Mary could keep in touch by email, etc and it would be safe to do that.

I think one sister is a chemist, with her own pharmacy and the other is an intensive care nurse.

John is a geologist, if I recall correctly.

Patricia's new husband? She took a divorce again?? I think she got married with her second husband in January 2004.

According to testimony of biography and sites:

'Evveryone ended up at the universith'. Jane is qualified pharmacist, Patricia is a nurse and John is a geologist from the University Hobart'. (by: Mary, Crown Princess of Denmark, Karin Palshoj & Gitte Redder)

Jane Stephens, a pharmacist (West Hobart Pharmacy in 2003)

Patricia Bailey, an intensive care nurse (North Queensland Hospital Foundation)

John Stuart Donaldson, a geologist

I thinks Mary looks much like her sister Jane, the pharmacist.

:previous:

They do. But Jane has a stronger nose, and different eyes. I think that Her brother John on the other hand looks like her twin. Imagine him with a wig on, he would be the spitting image of his little sister :D

Thanks a million for all that research into their occupations.
All of them are educated and sucessful.

So does Patricia live in the northern part of Australia, the same as
her brother?

Embarassed to admit that I am watching Undercover Boss Australia...and the founder of Boost Juice, Janine Allis was on..and knowing Jane Stephens, Mary's eldest sister now has her own Boost franchise, I was struck by the physical similarities of Mary, Jane and Janine...If the Donaldson's had a 5th child, she could be it...Anyway that is my embarassing admission and a possible 6 degrees of separation...

Sorry for the trivial, possibly irrelevant post, but I am amazed...

http://www.theage.com.au/articles/2004/10/23/1098474928410.html?from=storylhs (Do you think she could pass as a Donaldson?)

I don't think she could pass for a Donaldson.

Not at all. She is a brown-haired woman and that's it! Her face shape, her eyes, her nose, her mouth and lips don't ressemble any of Mary's. Not to add her expressions which have nothing to do with the Donaldsons'.
BTW I still don't get why people tend to think that Marie and Mary are look-alikes! Appart from the color of their hair I see nothing else that they would share in common, from personality to physical looks.

Back to Janine Allis, I thought she resembled the Donaldson girls in the way she spoke compared to Mary and Jane, who are the only two that I have heard speak...It was just the articulation and speech patterns I thought combined with dark hair and eyes that made them seem similar...

As for Mary and Marie, I do think they are similar, they have similar birthdates too...But I think they are similar like siblings are similar, not identical but they share characteristics...I don't even think Mary, Jane and Patricia look similar, they are all different, it is only when you find out they are sisters that you can pick up on similarities and I guess that is where the look-alike speculation comes from between Mary and Marie...

Just reasd that the zDonaldson's will be spending Christmas with Fred,Mary and the kids, and will remain at Frederik VIII for some time (probably to assist with the twins until the Christening)..............how lovely to stay in such a beeautiful newly renovated palace.
