From Danish Minister Sophie Lohde: "Proud! HRH Crown Princess Mary opens WomenDeliver. Strong speech.
This is not a woman's agenda - but for all"

From Mabel van Oranje: "Let's make sure all girls have choice, not chance"
Crown Princess Mary opens WD2016 with powerful speech.

From Jean Hailes: "Australia is proud of Crown Princess Mary - passionate advocate for the rights of women and girls - opening Women Deliver"

ADDED:
This just got the main place in the evening's first tv-news. With Mary speeching. It's not every day Denmark get the honor of holding the world's most largest conferences.

I'm sure there is much more in the main evening news the next hours.

A good video from BB with a very passionated Crown Princess Mary delightful talking and telling about the first day of the conference. She held the opening speech which has been praised for.

And especially one was extra excitced - an obviously proud Frederik - who tells about his wifes effort:

"Her opening speech is the super thorough worked and there is professional expertise behind. And of course I'm extremely proud of the delivery of it. It just can't be done much better."

The tenderness you can see in Frederik's eyes and voice when he talks about Mary says a lot.

DR portrait of Crown Princess Mary (in connection with being host for the Women Deliver Conference)

Kronprinsesse Mary - kvindeforkæmperen | Nyheder | DR

(DR1 will tomorrow evening send a new documentary: "Crown Princess Mary's mission")

We see Crown Princess Mary on conferences, on visits to the Danish shelters and many events in Denmark.

We see her at the rostrum of the UN and the International Women's Day in the middle of Copenhagen.

Crown Princess Mary has several key issues, but one of those closest to her heart, is the struggle for women's and girls' rights.

Through her foundation, Mary Foundation, she has focused on domestic violence which each year hits more than 33,000 Danish women.

Will be there without the press and cameras
Her latest trip abroad in April went to Burkina Faso and the Crown Princess is not only there to meet up with the press. She spends a lot of time talking with the women who are involved - one to one, without microphones and cameras shoved up in their faces.

- When I talk to the women, it is very important for me to be present and really listen to their stories, so I can be able to convey and communicate their stories to others who do not have the opportunity to get an insight into what it means to be a woman in a country plagued by poverty and inequality, said the Crown Princess to DR.

Will use her title to something useful
Although Crown Princess Mary think it's hard to see herself as a role model, she is happy to be able to use her title as Crown Princess to focus on women and girls' rights:
- It means a lot to me. It has been a long, exciting and challenging journey. And the more subtle it becomes, and the deeper I go down, the more I want to get involved and do what I can to be one of the voices and actors that really helps to make a difference and create a world where women and girls have equal opportunities and freedom to choose the life they want, said Crown Princess Mary on the journey to Burkina Faso.

The strong commitment of the major humanitarian issues such as women's and girls' rights are not out of thin air - even as a child Mary was very interested in justice.

- From childhood I always had a strong sense of justice, and there are a lot of injustices in this world, the Crown Princess explained to Berlingske.

The professionalism must be in order
For Crown Princess Mary it's the third Women Deliver conference she participates in. Her program is packed with events from early morning to late evening all four days.

And she don't show up to one single opening or a meeting without being thoroughly prepared, and she considers, therefore, that she don't have came sleeping to the many invitations and tasks.

- The professionalism must be in order to be invited to special events, speaking at conferences, be part of a task force and meet special people, for example. Otherwise, you get a different type of invitations, and I will not feel good to be in charge of anything unless I have a deep and broad knowledge of the issue, have Crown Princess Mary told Berlingske.

We conclude with a quote from the head of one of the Crown Princess protectorates, the UN Population Fund, Babatunde Osotimehin:

- The Crown Princess effort is very important. She is an excellent advocate, and what she does is that she spreads the message out to a larger audience and explains that this is an important agenda if we want to make the world a peaceful place. People listen to her - not just because she is the Crown Princess - but also because she is very committed.

And here is a video of Benedikte: VIDEO: Prinsesse Benedikte støtter op om kronprinsesse Marys sag | BILLED-BLADET

Today at the Women Deliver conference Melinda Gates announced that the Bill and Meldinda Gates Foundation will donate 80 million $ to gather date about gender equality, or lack of it, worldwide to ensure future investments are made in the best areas.
Bill Gates' hustru overrasker i København: Giver 500 millioner kroner væk til ligestilling

Both main networks in DK, TV2 and DR1, has made women's rights and gender equality the theme of the week, so a number of informative programmes about these issues have been aired.
Some of them are almost too unbearable to watch.
One such documentary, which I'm certain will be shown internationally is about South-East Asian women who become domestic slaves in anything but name in the Middle-East. - Lousy pay, no breaks, no days off, they sleep basically in a wardrobe, that is when they are not sexually molested by the husbands or physically abused by the wives. They are often locked up when the family is away. If they are able to go to the authorities their complaints will be dismissed out of hand and if they are lucky they'll be deported but many end up in prison on charges of "theft". If raped they are likely to be executed or end up in prison, or if they are lucky be deported.

Yes, the two invited guests from Burkina Faso may have been in for a surprise when they touched down in Copenhagen.:penguin::snowman:
It may be the middle of May here, but these days the temperature is down to some 9-10 degress C (48-50 F) and with the windchill factor it's close to 4 degrees C, I.e. like sitting in a fridge.
I noticed several foreign representatives at the meeting who were outside with bare arms. While natives may be seen walking about in only a light jacket or bare legged it may not be a great idea if you are not used to it. (We don't have a smiley with a cold, so this will have to do) :coffee:

It's about the domestic slaves I told about in a previous post and a lot of it, if not most will be in English.

A news bulletin just came through on my email: one of the schoolgirls kidnapped by boko haram 2 years ago has been rescued. This is indeed a cause for rejoicing, and I wonder if it will be mentioned at the conference. Even one rescue is to be celebrated.

Thank you to all who posted the lovely pictures and videos. The Huffington Post Worldpost edition has an article about female genital cutting in Nigeria - so sad - and that news came from the Women Deliver conference.

As said in a previous post, the conference is well covered by the media.

Here is an overview of DR1's coverage, and a good deal of it is about Mary: Women Deliver | DR

:previous:
It's good to hear about the girl, MidWestMom

It was a barbaric act, but unfortunately far from unique.
As a part of the theme about women's right, or lack of them, TV yesterday showed a documentary about a fourteen year old girl from Iran, who has been put up for sale i.e. to be sold as a bride. - Not because her family are bad or ignorant, they are simply poor.
The girl was talking about her dreams, which she in all likelihood can kiss goodbye for ever, once she is married.
An intelligent, creative girls, whose talent will probably soon be lost forever for the world and not least for her country.
The countries that oppress women must be very rich indeed, since they feel they can afford the luxury of neglecting 50 % of their mass of talent.

I didn't see it myself but my wife told about it.
https://www.dr.dk/tv/se/dokumania/dokumania-mor-jeg-vil-ikke-saelges

But I saw this documentary, part of it being in English. But it doesn't matter so much that you don't understand English, the footage speaks for itself.
https://www.dr.dk/tv/se/mellemoestens-skjulte-slaver/mellemoestens-skjulte-slaver

A Danish journalist contacted a number of agencies that supply domestic servants, mainly maids, for families in Lebanon. In fact there are astonishingly foreign 250.000 domestic servants in Lebanon alone!
Mainly from the Philippines, but also Sri Lanka and Ethiopia. Those from Africa, because there is a good deal of racism in this, being the cheapest.
They work 24/7/365.
The women are mainly recruited from rural areas with a minimum of education and they are blatantly lied to. Once in Lebanon, their passports are seized by their employers and that's it.
We see a woman crying for help on Facebook, because she just been raped. She got out, but the rapist was not prosecuted.
We see an African woman who tried to escape, being caught in the street by her employer and dragged kicking and screaming into a car. She committed suicide.
We see a woman fall to her death from a balcony trying to escape.
We see a women being beaten severely by her employer using a shoe I think, while the family filmed it.

You think this is bad?
Think again!
Saudi Arabia is much worse!
We see a number of cases of women being corrected by having nails hammered into their bodies.
I could go on, but if you think you can bear it, try watch the documentary.

I'm sure a more permanent link will be posted later.

I watched the documentary and it was encouraging in the sense that things are happening and it makes a difference.
Anyway, the documentary was actually more about Mary's general engagement in women's rights and health in this developing countries based on her recent visit to Burkina Faso.
It would be pointless to write a longer summary with a video link though.

I noticed Mary used a few basic French phrases during the visit.

It was a very well-made and enlightening documentary.
CP Mary makes one proud. She is dedicated and diligent in her cause. She is genuine, heartwarm and deeply involved. She is very knowledgeable - she has (as many haven't) understood that a ban does not help AT ALL - it does information, information, information. She understands that you have to meet people where they are.
She knows her stuff and I think she just can but help using her position to make a difference. She really is a win for the Danish royal family.

Mary has started to change the traditional princess-role. I think she's going to make a big difference for women and children worldwide.

On another note: Mary speaks a impressive good Danish.

"I just saw the documentary. Hats off to our Crown Princess Mary, who makes a formidable and courageous effort. She is chosen good formulations that are comprehensible and not offensive. I am sure that she both have been seen, heard and understood, furthermore she has left traces which gives food for thought. Her gentle, smiling and kind nature will be remembered down there. Great respect from here."

(2)
"I am in no way a supporter of the royal family. But after I have seen this broadcast I must change that view. Mary showed great natural compassion. What if she and Frederik took over NOW and got modernized the royal family?"

(3)
An very good and meaningful broadcast, with a skilled, warm and committed Princess Mary. And she speaks Danish impressive!! I just sat and watched Crown Princess Mary's mission at DR1. Dear DR, I wish with all my heart that we could be allowed to see even more documentaries about Crown Princess wholeheartedly work!
A tough and important program about gender inequality and women's rights!"

(Muhler, notice how Mary definitely is Frederik's wife  :D)

ADDED:

A nice and longer BB video from yesterday (including Frederik, Mary, Maxima and Mabel):

Frederik attended and gave a speech at a side event and Mary came whizzing from an earlier breakfast meeting to be present at Frederik's event. Notice how Mary cuddling Frederik's thighs. They're are good to that. No big scenes moving the focus away from the conference over on them. But caress each other's hands, thighs discreetly.. it's so much more real and I like it.

Maxima about meeting her good friend Mary on the conference:

- Oh it's always wonderful to meet Mary and see her again. It was really a joy.

Today is the 4th and last day during the Women Deliver conference 2016 in Copenhagen.
