Yesterday, always busy Mary also particated and spoke at Children, Youth and Grief 15 year anniversary conference, Copenhagen:

BB picture and article:
Kronprinsesse Mary ramte alle i hjertet med sin personlige tale | BILLED-BLADET

Mary delivered a strong speech in which she told the young people about the grief. During her speech Mary was moved (seen clealy on the picture) when she told about the loss of her own mother, Henrietta Donaldson.

Mary also told about the wall of silence that often is a characteristic associated with a period of grief.

The speech made a great impression on the people in the large common room at Christiansborg. The ceremonies, TV 2 host Natasja Crone thanked Mary for a great and very personal speech.

Thanks.
Its nice that Mary opened up about this difficult subject.
Losing a parent, especially when you are young, is painful and something that effects you throughout

VIDEO: Kronprinsesse Mary berørt under tale | BILLED-BLADET

A BB video of Mary who recently gave a speech in connection with the fifteenth anniversary of the Children, Young and Grief, for which she is patron.
At 1.45 into the video she mentions that she knows how it feels to lose a mother and she is briefly visibly moved.

Thanks DOM,

Yes Crown Princess Mary will during the day tomorrow travels to Senegal for at 4 days trip.
The trip is made in order to experience and obtain a deeper understanding of the organizations' work with "Community Empowerment Programs" with a special focus on women and girls' rights and female genital mutilation.

I can see there is no section with "press information". Perhaps this is a trip without press? To learn and get a deeper understanding for how the organization are working in practice. Or perhaps the press information is just not published yet.

ADDED:
Maybe we will se F&M's close friend Birgitte Handwerk traveling along as part of the delegation. She is the vice-chairman for orchidproject.dk. Close friend Julie Mølsgaard is on the board too

Denmark's really small isn't it

Looking forward to see Mary conducting this very useful mission to a good end!

Twitter still only has this link:

which leads you here: Crown Princess Mary visits Senegal with the Orchid Project | NEWMYROYALS & HOLLYWOOD FASHION

Anyway - good places to watch for coverage to pop up.

It seems as my thoughts about the missing box with "press access" was right. It seems that this trip is without media. To learn and get a deeper understanding for how the organization are working in practice. Well done.
Maybe we will get something later on :)

It's a very delicate topic. I guess if Mary wants to learn more and talk to women, they need the confidence of a private conversation.

That's great that she's working without press so she can really understand and help. Good on her

I am thinking that since CP Mary will be the patron of a major women's conference to be held in Copenhagen next year...maybe a documentary will be shown from her visit to Senegal at the conference.

I think it's very likely. Or we will get some after the visit has ended tomorrow. Or perhaps it's 'simply' to learn and get close to the women it's all about, and that's just easier and best without press. It in all way once again tells how genuine engaged and involved our Crown Princess is in her work.

Media release from Orchid Project:
HRH Crown Princess Mary of Denmark witnesses ceremony to abandon female genital cutting.

HRH Crown Princess Mary is a strong voice on the issue of women’s rights and Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights around the world. Amongst other roles, she is a member of the High Level Task Force for ICPD, Patron of the UNFPA and Patron of the WHO Regional Office for Europe.

HRH Crown Princess Mary said: “It is both a joy and a privilege to witness local communities celebrate their decision to stop cutting their daughters. This decision has come from within the communities themselves and this is the mark of true and sustainable development.”

The Crown Princess’s presence was arranged by Orchid Project, an NGO working to end female genital cutting. It campaigns on the issue, carries out global awareness-raising work and partners with successful projects overseas. Orchid Project’s Danish brand supports an end to the practice and was also represented at the trip.

What a wonderful message from Mary. Changes like this have to be championed by the communities themselves with support from organizations like these

Beautiful photos of Mary
You can see the connection and commitment from her

Glad we got some information and some pictures from the organization Orchid Project she traveled with. At the same time super authentic and genuine this trip has taken place without the big media. If any media at all.

Mary must be back home in Denmark soon.

Kongehuset has now posted a gallery as well (with the same 3 pictures)

Rejse til Senegal - Kongehuset

Telling us that 52 villages joint public statement and celebration of the villages no longer implement female circumcision. The celebration, which was supported by the organization Orchid Project which Mary traveled with, marks the end of a three-year training program.
