My favourite part of William's statement

'Following on from my time in the military, I have had experiences in this job I will carry with me for the rest of my life, and that will add a valuable perspective to my royal work for decades to come."

I couldn't agree more. His real life work as a RAF pilot and then as an air ambulance pilot will serve him well throughout his royal life.

Interests

I'm wondering what William's personal interests or hobbies are. We know the queen is heavily interested in horses and dogs and spends personal time on them. Charles has his interest in horticulture and philosophies. When William is king and the children are grown, I wonder how he'll spend his personal time.

I can see him continuing to fly as often as he can, maybe learning to fly different aircraft on a recreational basis.

We've seen him play polo and soccer, (football), and he's in good shape, so I assume he's quite athletic in general.

I can't remember that William has ever talked about his hobbies in detail. He tends to be strictly business in the interviews he gives. For one of the most recognized men in the world he's managed to remain a bit of an enigma, IMO.

We know he likes killing animals as he goes hunting and shooting so I would presume he will continue doing that.

I think he drives a motorcycle, he runs and bikes and trains in general, he (and harry) have talked about game consols. So generally rather normal stuff (other than the hunting that Iluvbertie pointed out, but that is normal in his circles).

William likes riding his motorcycle, polo, hunting, skiing, playing tennis with Catherine and dancing. The Cambridge's also like working out. I think they're into all kinds of exercises in gyms and elsewhere.

I suspect he will continue on with these hobbies even when he's King.

Thanks Dman!

Quote:
Kate has long modelled herself on Prince Philip, telling aides she want to emulate the way he supports the Queen while also championing the causes closest to his heart.

A source said: “If you look at Kate’s approach you will notice that it is very much in support of William, first and foremost, but also about carving her own charitable path, as he has done with the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award and his long involvement with charities like the WWF.”
Camilla Tominey and her stories (she must really have many friends in the royal households, since they leaks to her all the time).

I wrote in another thread some days ago that I doubted that Philip was a model for Kate, but I agree with the so-called source in the quote I posted above.

Well there is no else? Philip is the consort. Kate is a future consort. The Queen Mum is dead, Diana is dead. Camilla isn't that much more experienced than Kate. Philip is the only logical person to base being consort on. We already see William is more like his Granny than his father. He isn't spouting his various opinions on stuff like architecture, global warming etc.

What stands out for me the most is with the announcement that Philip will be retiring from public duties, some reports have come out that "Team Windsor" will be very much there to support the Queen whenever she needs it.

Teamwork. I've always thought of William and Kate and Harry as kind of like the Three Musketeers. One for all and all for one. Being willing to be in a support role is the hallmark of teamwork. The Duke of Edinburgh did it for 70 years and also found ways to make roles for himself. This is what Kate is referring to as having the DoE as a role model. Age has absolutely nothing to do with it.

I agree, but I think (as some of the Queen/Charles's former employes said on BBC/Sky during the the 90th birthday celebrations last year) that when Charles becomes king he will go into the role the Queen had from 1952-2012, when sehe went on walkabouts, were driven in open cars, held speeches and traveled around the country etc. And both he and William will shut their mouth when it comes to political issues.

Edward put it in a very similiar way, regarding carrying on the duties that are part and parcel of being the RF.

I love the fact that Catherine wants to take on more responsibilities and looks to Prince Philip as a role model.

I hope everyone knows The Queen would never tell the young royals to stop the "soul-baring." It's already been said that she supports their Heads Together Campaign. It's the some of the members of the media from the DM that didn't like the Cambridge's and Prince Harry's confessions.

My sentiments exactly, Dman. There is a huge difference between using an experience to amplify the need to confront and deal with mental issues and using the media to present a "woe is me" "victim" picture. What the Daily Mail isn't seeing is Harry's motive behind baring his soul.

The Three Musketeers (W&K&H) are all raising the level of awareness on mental health and if just one person is helped by it, its all worthwhile.

The source for that DM article is a Roya Nikka article from the Times. Roya is very accurate and is a go to for KP when they want to get information out. I'm inclined to believe there is some truth to the article.

I don't think this has notting to do with the Heads Together Campaign. When the DF and other newspapers wants to bash the Cambridges, they uses the Queen as their tool. And of course now they are using the Philip-situation to do the same.

The Queen fully supports the Cambridge's and Prince Harry's campaign and they went to her before speaking out on their own issues. Again, it's some members of the media that want the royals to maintain the old British stiff upper lip on issues that really matter to mental health.
