The Duke of Cambridge travelled by boat down the River Thames before launching the #SaferThames drowning prevention strategy from Tower Bridge.

More than 30 people die on the river each year, with over 700 life-threatening incidents taking place

I'm surprised that every day there are dangerous incidents on a river so central to the city of London! And 30 drownings per year is a travesty.

That’s why there are so many incidents, it’s in the centre of London surrounded by bars and clubs and frankly not very well lit. Whilst I’m not suggesting all incidents are related to drink, I can safely assume most of them were. Unfortunately we have the same in the north of England on the River Ouse.

Great interview with William. Talks about his work over the years and also's about Catherine's idea for Head's Together

Quote:
Prince William says young people are not getting the help they need on mental health issues as technology brings challenges not faced by previous generations.

William, 36, a long-time campaigner on mental health awareness, said we must do more as a society to “work together to bring children up to be as resilient as possible”.

In a landmark youth edition of the Daily Mirror, a group of teenagers formed the Next Generation team to interview the Duke of Cambridge, asking his views on the pressures faced by youngsters.

In an online conversation with our young team, William said he was excited about the future, and the way technology opens up the world by allowing youngsters to interact with anyone, anywhere, at any time

This is a very worthwhile cause, and something I am very glad to see the Duke of Cambridge take on. It's shockingly common for LGBTQ teens to find themselves abandoned and homeless when they come out to their families, among other issues.

His mother's influence on his younger years shows here I think. Not that William wouldn't have been caring or interested anyway but she first showed him the plight of homeless people & encouraged him to understand the issues around homelessness. All credit to him for carrying it forward as he does & being such a good role model for others in privileged positions.

I agree. As much as the British royal family has done good works and promoted issues that affect the people, it was Diana that paved the way for her sons to grow up aware of the lesser known and lesser covered issues that affect so many people in different ways. Charles, with his Prince's Trust made great inroads into supporting and assisting those less fortunate but it also took William and Harry the experience of "getting down and getting dirty" involvement to really hit it home.

We're seeing the best of both parents in William now when he steps out and gets involved and interacts with causes such as The Albert Kennedy Trust.
