Weekly update to 2nd July, 2015

Sorry for the delay but it is so much easier with the big computer rather than the baby one I had in London. I will attempt to do the three missing weeks over the next day or so while I unpack and get ready to return to work. Thanks for your patience and I did have a great time in London and even spotted most of the HRHs. The ones I didn’t see were George, Charlotte, Harry, Beatrice, Eugenie, Anne and Birgitte as they weren’t at Wimbledon the day I went or on the balcony for the Battle of Britain Flypast but saw the others which made the trip really extra special.

As for the royals this week – The Queen and Philip were ending their State Visit to Germany while the others went about their official business pretty much as normal.

My informal count for Beatrice of which I am aware is now at 23. I am working this out based on reports here and in the DM, which are also usually here. This does not include any engagements counted officially.

HM The Queen – 233 (220 – up 13 – 11.1%)
HRH The Duke of Edinburgh - 142 (133 – up 9 – 6.8%)
HRH The Prince of Wales – 311 (296 – up 15 – 14.9%)
HRH The Duchess of Cornwall – 142 (138 – up 4 – 6.8%)
HRH The Duke of Cambridge - 65 (65 – no change – 3.1%)
HRH The Duchess of Cambridge – 24 (24 – no change – 1.1%)
HRH Prince Henry of Wales - 57 (57 – no change – 2.7%)
HRH The Duke of York – 141 (137 – up 4 – 6.7%)
HRH Princess Beatrice of York – 3 (2 – up 1 – 0.1%)
HRH Princess Eugenie of York – 1 (1 – no change – 0.05%)
HRH The Earl of Wessex - 176 (167 – up 9 – 8.4%)
HRH The Countess of Wessex - 111 (102 – up 9 – 5.3%)
HRH The Princess Royal - 290 (276 – up 15 – 13.9%)
Vice-Admiral Tim Laurence - 36 (36 – no change – 1.7%)
HRH The Duke of Gloucester - 139 ( 130 – up 9 – 6.7%)
HRH The Duchess of Gloucester - 59 (58 – up 1 – 2.8%)
HRH The Duke of Kent – 99 (92 – up 7 – 4.7%)
HRH The Duchess of Kent - 0 (0 – no change – 0%)
HRH Prince Michael of Kent – 8 (8 – no change – 0.4%)
HRH Princess Michael of Kent - 5 (5 – no change – 0.2%)
HRH Princess Alexandra – 48 (47 – up 1 – 2.3%

The 'league table'

There has been some discussion on various threads at times about reducing the size of the royal family. IF the idea is for the royal family to be Charles and his family and maybe his siblings these are those who would be doing duties. Charles and his line are in purple and his siblings and spouses are in green. The Queen and Philip are in red.

Weekly update to 9th July, 2015

A very busy week but it should be noted that the day that I attended Wimbledon – the 8th – saw the Duke of Kent as the only royal who attended officially although William, Kate, Sophie and Prince and Princess Michael of Kent were also there that day, along with Prince Albert of Monaco. The only four royals who officially attended Wimbledon this year were Camilla, the Duke and Duchess of Gloucester and the Duke of Kent.

Andrew was in PNG for the Opening of the Pacific Games at the beginning of the week and others did their regular sorts of visits. Charles and Camilla were doing their annual visit to Wales carrying out a number of engagements.

My informal count for Beatrice of which I am aware is now at 23 as she hasn’t done anything unofficial this week.

HM The Queen – 245 (233 – up 12 – 11.0%)
HRH The Duke of Edinburgh - 154 (142 – up 12 – 6.9%)

HRH Prince Henry of Wales - 57 (57 – no change – 2.6%)
HRH The Duke of York – 163 (141 – up 18 – 7.3%)

FAILURE of British Monarchy Website to UPDATE CC

The weekly failure of the British Monarchy website: Dates missing – 3rd July completely.

Interestingly the 4th July has events for The Queen and Philip in Scotland but has missed the events for the Duke of York in PNG so half the entry is missing compared to the online and/or print version.

I have found something quite interesting - as seen above with the 4th July entry missing events for Andrew.

This is also the case for the 21st July. I have a copy of the printed Times CC and it has events listed for Andrew, Anne and Alexandra but the online CC only has events for The Queen, Charles and Camilla. How many other days has this happened where the online and print editions aren't the same? Maybe that is why I sometimes differ from Mr O'Donovan as he has access to the printed CC while I am relying on an online version either from the monarchy website itself or from Cepe who I believe also uses the online Times.

This raises more questions about their efficiency in my mind.

I think you may have credited Beatrice instead of Eugenie as who attended a palace reception with The Duke of York last week. It was Eugenie who was listed in the CC and there were pictures of her there.

good point. I do use Times online but also look at the paper. I think I also mentioned a discrepancy a few weeks ago.

Other issues are that some of the info goes to the press early and cancelled attendances have appeared in the Times. and the Times itself has become really inefficient at dating the CC, ie using the date published instead of the date of engagements. And lots of "page not found" problems.

Remind me, why are we doing this?????

I haven't put up the week where Eugenie attended the reception with Andrew - that will be later today or tomorrow. I still have some work to do on that week but it is coming for Eugenie.

Beatrice has attended:
Afternoon Party - 28th May
Trooping the Colour - 13th June
Reception - 22nd June

Eugenie has attended

Trooping the Colour - 13th June
Reception - 14th July (this week isn't up yet)

Weekly update to 16th July, 2015

A very busy week again. This is normal as the family is usually busy in the last couple of weeks of July before the very, very slow month of August when often there are fewer than 50 engagements carried out by the entire family for the month.

This included the Battle of Britain Flypast event with the subsequent luncheon that some of those who were on the balcony then attended – and Philip’s infamous comment to the photographer that seemed to overshadow the actual event as far as the press and public were concerned in London.

My informal count for Beatrice of which I am aware is now at 23 as she hasn’t done anything unofficial this week.

HM The Queen – 268 (245 – up 23 – 11.4%)
HRH The Duke of Edinburgh - 169 (154– up 15 – 7.2%)
HRH The Prince of Wales – 344 (328 – up 16 – 14.7%)

Weekly update to 23rd July, 2015

Slowly I am getting the posts up to date. Thank you for your patience with this.

This is the first ‘wind-down’ week to the August holidays with the family in already in holiday mode it seems with some doing only one or two engagements for the week. Charles and Camilla finished their Cornwall visit and Anne was her usual busy self. The Duchess of Gloucester attended all three days of the Davis Cup while Andrew attended 3 out of 4 days of the Open Championships at St Andrews (in his capacity as a Past Captain – something all past captains are expected to do unless totally unable to do so).

My informal count for Beatrice of which I am aware is now at 23 as she hasn’t done anything unofficial this week.

HM The Queen – 274 (268 – up 6 – 11.4%)
HRH The Duke of Edinburgh - 171 (169– up 2 – 7.1%)
HRH The Prince of Wales – 355 (344 – up 11 – 14.7%)
HRH The Duchess of Cornwall – 175 (161 – up 14 – 7.3%)
HRH The Duke of Cambridge - 71 (71 – no change – 2.9%)

Weekly update to 30th July, 2015

This was a very slow week with most of the family doing only a few engagements and some already on holidays. Anne did fly out to Malaysia at the end of the week for the IOC meeting but her engagements for that event won’t be counted until next week’s count.

The number of engagements will remain low for the next month or so and then pick up again in September and through October and November before the next holiday period in December.

My informal count for Beatrice of which I am aware is still at 23.

HM The Queen – 274 (274 – no change – 11.3%)
HRH The Duke of Edinburgh - 171 (171– no change – 7.0%)
HRH The Prince of Wales – 363 (355 – up 8 – 14.9%)
HRH The Duchess of Cornwall – 176 (175 – up 1 – 7.2%)
HRH The Duke of Cambridge - 72 (71 – up 1 – 3.0%)
HRH The Duchess of Cambridge – 25 (24 – up 1 – 1.0%)
HRH Prince Henry of Wales - 57 (57 – no change – 2.3%)
HRH The Duke of York – 183 (180 – up 3 – 7.5%)

HRH The Duke of Gloucester - 157 ( 157 – no change – 6.5%)
HRH The Duchess of Gloucester - 72 (72 – no change – 3.0%) NB I had an error last week and left out two of the Duchess of Gloucester’s engagements – her count is now correct.
HRH The Duke of Kent – 118 (115 – up 3 – 4.9%)
HRH The Duchess of Kent - 0 (0 – no change – 0%)
HRH Prince Michael of Kent – 9 (9 – no change – 0.4%)

FAILURE of British Monarchy Website to UPDATE CC

The weekly failure of the British Monarchy website: As of this post they are missing 22nd, 23rd and 24th July.

I missed the fact that the 22nd and 23rd July were missing last week. These are the only three days that are missing.

There will be a further delay this week because the 'reliable' (lol) British monarch website has nothing for the 4th, 5th or 6th August. As Anne would have been returning to the UK on the 4th that should have been noted in the CC. It is possible that there is nothing for the other dates or course.

I wish they would put in every date and say 'no CC today' as they do in the print versions rather than leave it as it is given the unreliability of the site this year.

Weekly update to 30th July, 2015

Only Charles and Anne undertook any engagements this week. Anne was in Malaysia for the IOC meeting accounting for her five engagements while Charles was closer to home. The total number of engagements for the week was 9 and this is about normal for August although there will be a boost next week, I suspect, with the VP Day anniversary.

My informal count for Beatrice of which I am aware is still at 23.
