I don't care much for that style of hat either. It also reminds me of a lampshade and the skirt isn't that great either.. On close-ups Mary looks quite pretty though ..hopefully she'll choose a better style of wardrobe for next official function..

i think today was one of the best days mary had chosen a good style to dress. i have found the combination really good: well combined colours, modern and lovely hat in a basic colour that suits her much more than that one she has worn of the same style but in lilac, a really modern jacket and a brooche! it's one of the first times she has worn one and i think it makes her look better. a regal look, imo.
the make up was a bit too much, but it softened some strong features of mary.
i'm not a particular fan of mary's wardrobe but today she did it well.

Mary's hat?

Ummm, Mary's KFC "bucket" hat has got to go. Otherwise, she looks great...

So many different opinions about the outfit! And just to help those having trouble deciding, here's a closeup (pic originally from www.bt.dk and posted by potter from CP Mary MB)

Ok... so I change my opinion. It's not a lamp shade, it's a KFC bucket.

Actually she looks great but the hat has to go!

The hat worked out ok, in the close-up pictures, where you could see her face properly. In the pictures that have been taken from a distance the bucket-hat covers up too much of her. In my opinion Mary, and the rest of the royal ladies, ought to think about things like that when they dress. And/Or the people who help them. I've seen too many hats like these that cover up too much of the princesses' faces over the years. At official happenings, like this one, people want to see as much of the face as possible, to make sure they're seeing the right person.

It looks like they had fun at Legoland. I liked her hat, jacket, and her jewelry. The skirt and shoes have got to go...

I really like her smile and the angular shape of her hat in that last Van Parys photo.:)

Really? I absolutely ADORE her shoes!! The jacket was nice, very nicely tailored. Her jewellery - beautiful; love how the brooch really contrasts with her jacket, and love the cuuute earrings!

The skirt - lol, I'm gradually beginning to love it.

It was stated on another board that Mary's outfit went along with the building they were unveiling. Her hat represented the white chimneys, her black jacket the roof, and her white skirt the walls of the building. I don't know if she did this intentionally, but if she did I think it was a neat idea.

I know that many people don't like these types, not even on Mary. I would never wear them myself and agree that they are not for everyone. But, I really like them on Mary. I think that they suit her fairly well. What I really like about them is that you can see more of her face when she wears these types. She has a nice face and sometimes the larger hats take away from her appearance. You can also see her eyes and her smile better.
