King Carl Gustaf gave yesterday an audience to vice admiral Jan Thörnqvist, the new Commandant General, and handed over the commandant's staff.
The Commandant General in Stockholm is a general, who directly informs the Supreme Commander of the Armed Forcs of matters concerning the state ceremonial activities, including The Royal Guards.
The symbol for the Commandant General is a staff that is symbolically handed over by the HM King to the new Commandant General.

King Carl Gustaf presented the Vega Medal at the Royal Palace today, April 24.

The Vega Medal was instituted by the Swedish Society for Anthropology and Geographyexternal and is awarded to "people who have promoted geographical research in an excellent manner".

On Wednesday, April 24, the King handed out the Vega Medal to Professor Emily Martin at a ceremony at the Royal Palace.
The Vega Medal was instituted in 1880 by the Swedish Society for Anthropology and Geography (SSAG), the King is the supreme patron of SSAG. The medal goes according to the statutes to “individuals for outstanding achievements in advancing geographical research”.
The medal is awarded on the anniversary of the arrival of the SS Vega in Stockholm on 24 April 1880. The Vega was the vessel on which Adolf Erik Nordenskiöld undertook the Vega Expedition of 1878–1880. The purpose of the expedition was to sail through the Northeast Passage, which also succeeded. Oskar II was with and funded the expedition.

The King awarded scholarships to young leaders
On Wednesday, April 24, the King handed out the Young Leadership Foundation's Compass Rose Scholarships to three young leaders who showed courage, care and action beyond the ordinary. At the ceremony, young leaders who had completed the education Value-based leadership also received a diploma from the King's hand.
During the afternoon ceremony in the Bernadotte Library at the Royal Palace, the Young Leadership Foundation's Compass Rose Scholarships was awarded for the 13th consecutive year. The scholarship amounts to SEK 50,000 per scholarship and is awarded to young leaders younger than 25 years who have shown particular courage in courage, consideration and action. So far, 38 young leaders have received the scholarship.
The Scholarship recipients are Shanga Aziz, Hamza Mostafa and Alexandra Tecle.

On April 25, king Carl Gustaf chaired The Main Chapter of The Swedish Orders. The meeting was held at the Hall of the Order of the Seraphim at the Royal Palace. The king is the Grand Master of the Swedish Orders.
During the meeting, newly painted coat of arms were presented to the King. Among other things, the coat of arms of Princess Adrienne, Indonesia's President Joko Widodo and Lithuanian President Dalia Grybauskaité were presented.

Later today the King presented this year's scholarships in the Bernadotte program.
The Royal Academy established the so-called Bernadotte program on the occasion of the King's 70th birthday in 2016. The King, the Academies' Patron and First Honorary Member awarded today scholarships at ceremony in the Bernadotte Library.
After the ceremony, a reception was held where the King had the opportunity to speak with the scholarship recipients and representatives of the academies.

Today king Carl Gustaf attended at the opening of the drawing exhibition The Thinking Hand at the Royal Palace. Ten selected draftsmen’s contributions are on display in Gustav III’s Museum of Antiquities.
Of these, a jury then appoints three subscribers who receive a scholarship of SEK 100,000 each from Elisabeth and Gustaf Douglas scholarship fund. The three winners will be announced on June 6.

King Carl Gustaf attended today the 70th anniversary celebration of The Foundation of King Gustaf V's 90th Anniversary Fund.
The anniversary was celebrated with a seminar in the Bernadotte Library at the Royal Palace.
In 1948, when Gustaf V turned 90, a fund was created to honor the then king at his birthday. In total, the fund raised SEK 2 million. Since then, the foundation has continuously distributed grants to organizations that want to support and develop non-profit youth activities through training of leaders.

The King of Sweden is stripping Jean Claude Arnault of the Order of the Polar Star. Arnault has been convicted of rape & also famously groped Crown Princess Victoria at a reception arranged by the Swedish Academy of which Arnault's wife, the poet Katarina Frostensson, was a member at the time.
Arnault received the order in 2015 by the Swedish government after the King three times had declined requests by Academy member Per Wästberg.
The decision to strip Arnault of the order was made by The King only hours after Arnault's request to have his conviction tried by the Supreme Court was denied.

Thursday May 9, the King participated in WWF's annual meeting held at Huvudskär and Utö in the southern outer archipelago of Stockholm. The King is honorary chairman of WWF's Trust Council.

On Wednesday, May 15, the King visited the King. The University of Technology and got information about the latest research in quantum technology.
The visit started with a presentation on the research of quantum technology with a focus on quantum computers. Some doctoral students and master's students talked about their research in the field.
Then the King visited Quantum Nano Photonics lab, where doctoral students showed their research projects.
At the end of the visit, an encrypted message was sent as individual photons via optical fiber link to Ericsson in Kista.

Svensk Damtidning got information that king Carl Gustaf was visiting a boat at Skeppsholmen close to the Royal Palace. They left the office and got in time to take some photos of the king.
It was the French sustainability boat Energy Observer that attracted the king and you can really understand that.
This is the first hydrogen-powered vessel in the world, an innovation that attracts great attention with its revolutionary environmental technology.

King Carl Gustaf attended at the inauguration of exhibition "Stockholmia 2019".
The Royal Philatelic Society London (RPSL) will celebrate its 150th anniversary in 2019. The exhibition will be a further milestone in the internationalisation of the society. The only official international exhibition, whether competitive or non-competitive, will be that held in Stockholm as part of the sesquicentennial anniversary of the RPSL as STOCKHOLMIA 2019. The king is the patron of the exhibition.

Today the King gave an audience to Mats Malm, who is the Swedish Academy's new permanent secretary since June 1. He succeeds Anders Olsson who has been a permanent secretary from June 1, 2018.
Mats Malm is a professor of literature at the University of Gothenburg.
Lately, he has mainly devoted himself to the development of new research methods on large text bases and he is the director of Litteraturbanken, which works with the digitization of Swedish literature.

King Carl Gustaf visited today the fire area around Järvsö and Ljusdal.

His Majesty the King visited the forest fire-ravaged area in Kårböle during Wednesday. The King praises the efforts made in the summer of 2018, but believes that society has probably fitted down its defense and protection capabilities too quickly.
In the summer of 2018, enormous forest fires raged in the municipality of Ljusdal. In the areas around Kårböle, nature is still noticed by the disaster.
King Carl XVI Gustaf, who himself is a forest owner, recalls:
- It is very dangerous, the wind can turn in different directions and then you have to run. It really is a craftsmanship, they did a tremendous job of those who were here and helped.
- We learn every time, we are not worse than that. We may be a bit more alert and build a fire defense. We see that the defense that we have installed now is being rebuilt. It was thought that the world would be better, but now you feel that maybe it went too far, we take lessons and we must do that here too. But maybe screw up the pace a bit, says the king.

On Wednesday, June 5, the King visited some of the areas in Hälsingland that were hit by the fires last summer.
Upon arrival at Järvsö station, the king was received by county governor Per Bill. The King then attended a lecture and a seminar on fire fighting in connection with the fires in the summer of 2018.
In the afternoon, the King was given a tour of the fire area and, among other things, met one of the many landowners who were affected.
