King Carl XVI Gustaf's 60th Birthday Celebrations: April 28-30, 2006

If you have answers, please help by responding to the unanswered posts.
Rym looks radiant in all of the pictures! and Ali looks so delighted to be with her....they make such an adorable couple.
Rym is my favourite princess, she's usually so fuss free and simple but can look as stunning (if not more so) as the other royal ladies when the occasion calls for it.

Beautiful!

Oh what great pictures! Thankyou so much for posting them :) ... So has anyone seen some of or the entire speeches? Read somewhere that Victoria's was wonderful - would love to see it and also the queens ;)

CP Victoria looked amazing. I love the Baden Fringe Tiara. It really suits her and is a stunning tiara.

Thank you to everyone who posted pictures. I enjoyed them all.

I am SO moved to tears that I feel I HAVE to comment! Why? Oh, WHY was I so let down??? And I had anxiously awaited this event for its glitz and glamour... You all stick up for your favourites and pretend to be blind to their failings...be honest! A lady's attire is supposed to complement her but most of these ladies wear pretty dazzling things which do nothing for them.

I don't think it's proper for a guest to attend a king's birthday looking like she wants to get into his bed: Rosario, stay at home!

Mary and Mathilde: you two will one day be queens and those dresses are just too "Hollywood". (And Mary, put your hair UP!!!!!) :(

Mette-Marit looks like a farmgirl trying her best.

Silvia and Beatrix: nice tries but the dresses do NOTHING for your figures!! On that point, Sonja's attempt was more successful but the material seemed to "fill her out" a bit much - particularly the arms.

Maria Theresa did so well with the teal/turquoise dress then something went wrong last night...somehow it didn't work for her and that necklace was certainly part of the problem: it looks like a car's spare part!

Maxima! The tiara is lovely, though disconcertingly too far forward...or else it's the hair but she looks top-heavy. Also, if a lady's shoes stick out from under her dress, it immediately makes her appear short; in some pics she looks like a red penguin! :p

Marie-Chantal looks more like a Greek peasant...and her hubby looked a bit scruffy, no?

Madeleine's choker looks like it's doing just that with all that open chest below it!! :D

Queen Paola looked quite good tonight and I think by far the loveliest looking Princess was Victoria.;)

However, you all overlooked one person who, to me, looked radiant, elegant, dazzling, and every inch a queen. I give you the night's best-dressed woman:

Queen Anne-Marie - bravo, madame! :) I was gobsmacked when I saw her pictures!

Don't get me wrong, I don't mean to offend anyone as I hold them in the highest esteem - it's just I CANNOT for the life of me understand what possesses a woman to wear what she does, sometimes, especially if they have a world of choice (and advice: even if it's in here) at their disposal.

I totally agree with you!:D
I waited anxiously for this huge event and became slightly disappointed...

What tiara she wear??

I don't agree with those persons who are disappointed by the event!
all the Ladys looked stunning and there was a great collection of wonderful Tiaras ,Jewels and dresses. :)
It's really sad that the event is over yet. ;)

Evil stepmothers?

Please ledies, don´t be so hard on some of the Royals! They are hard working mothers too. And trend in taste is very much according to one's fancy. In some countries also a question of etiquette that´s not simular all over the world. Some of You ladies comment this Royal event as if You are an evil stepmother from a fairy tale. This was´nt a tale! It was head of states, Royals and Presidents, congratulating Swedish head of state.

fantastic !!! purple platinum for all that beautiful pictures, i love it thanks !

Thank you all for the wonderful posting I have enjoyed taking it all in. I thought Mary looked just terrific at all the events, Maxima always appears so cheerful and I do always look forward to seeing her outfits the red was very busy but somehow imo she pulled it of.Mette Marie I have to say always looks as though she just can't quite cut it .... only my opinion... she looks horrible. That I was able to have all these gems to pass on is only thanks again to all of you for posting.

Crown Princess Victoria looks amazing, she's really coming into her own with her style. She looks more grown up and sophisticated. I loved the powder blue dress she wore the first day with the pearl earrings and the hairstyle she looked like a beauitful princess not just some girl with a ponytail, which I often get that impression when I see her. Everyone looked nice but I really liked how Victoria looked more like a woman this time.:)

It seems to me that Victoria and Mari Chantal are wearing the same tiara;
does anyone know something about those two tiara's? (Pictures are from DPA)

Wow...a lot of material to work with

CP Mary (Denmark) -- I love the national colors theme (ditto for Maxima, who should ditch the ribbon shoes...too much!). Her slip was not poking out, that's a peekaboo hem that is popular this year. I really liked it a lot.

Mette Merit -- I think she has an issue with being on display. She is a tall person, and has that slump over so that "no one will pay attention to me". She's gorgeous. Get her some classic 1950s/1960s attire. Who, oh, who, is dressing that classically beautiful woman? Whoever her stylist is has a vendetta against poor Mette Merit.

Maxima -- wonderful color (CP Mary -- why are you wearing these sad washed out colors????)

Swedish Royal Family -- beautiful family...but again, why all the pastels? I guess it's finally spring in Scandanavia.

Good show. I enjoy the visual candy.

One question -- why so many switches on the escorts? Where they promenading about?

Thanks so much everyone for posting ths images, gives a royalist from New zealand a bit of a thrill to see such fantastic images.

MY picks:
Big Winners: Maxima's red gown, absolutely stunning.
Big disapointments: Mary's evening wear, she can do much much better. Madeleine pulled that old pink thing out agin... unbelievable.

It was great how that swedish future spouses (Emma, Jonas and Daniel) were included in the festivities, if only the unofficial party.

Oone thing i thought looked odd, was when Mary and Henrik arrived at Drottningholm, he took her arm, she didn;t take his. It should be the other way around, Henrik looked like he was clinging to her.

Thanks again for the posts everyone.

Good grief... I've had a hard time getting into this thread all weekend! I just tried posting (a rather lengthy) message twice and it didn't go through. Yes, I know the wonderful Administrators are working on the problems so I'll stop complaining. :)
But I'm only going to post a brief message this time in case it gets lost again.

My top picks for the women who dressed the best for all of the events is:
Princess Victoria
Marie-Theresa of Luxembourg
Queen Anne-Marie of Greece

Bye for now!

I thought Pss Maxima and Pss Mary were exquisitely dressed and jewelled. Unlike many,I loved the muted tone of M's dress,a perfect foil for the aquamarines. The vibrant red on Maxima and the RUBIES!!! Somebody who really likes MM needs to take her shopping and introduce her to a stylist. Her husband who has moved in those circles all his life needs to be the first to help her,and definitely not her MIL.Pss Rym was exquisite too.

Interesting observation Amber26! Is this a tiara that Marie-Chantal has worn before? I wonder if it is part of a set or a replica by way of Queen Ingrid to Marie-Chantal via her mother-in-law Anne Marie?

I'm curious to know more about the very similar tiaras, too.

Although they look similar and are both fringe tiara's, they do infact have noticable differences.

Marie Chantal's tiara is spaced out with prongs in between the spikes were as Victorias is nothing but spikes.

All I have to say is WOW. Rym looked beautiful. I especially loved the dress she was wearing in the last photo. I loved her shoes that she was wearing with the blue skirt and jacket. Too bad the wind was blowing her hair every where because I couldn't really see the style it was in. She looked really good though. Thanks for the photos. Ali and Rym looked really cute together.

Wonderful weekend with all the fabulous photos. My heartfelt thanks to everyone that have posted the photos. I will certainly come back to look at them all over again.
