York Family News and Pictures 3: September 2022 -

If you have answers, please help by responding to the unanswered posts.
It is interesting that the latest palace comments have stressed that King Charles III is fond of his York nieces and does not wish them to be negatively affected by what is happening with their parents. It is a quite different tone from media coverage in 2011 when there was a report he referred to them as “twits”.

B+E were 23 and 21 in 2011, so they probably were twits, as many people are at that age :) Fourteen years of evolving and aging (plus marrying and becoming parents) has perhaps made them calmer and maturer and more to Charles's liking :)

We don't know how true any of this, and we don't know what goes on in private. It's all "rumours", Hello "understood" that they were due to attend the Pink Ball, or a friend/close contact "said". But I really am very sorry for both Beatrice and Eugenie.

According to the article, Princess Beatrice was attending the Future Investment Initiative in Riyadh and says she is "undoubtedly" attending on behalf of her employer Afiniti. (Is she still employed by Afiniti?)

This is why I don't understand why everyone seems to assume sinister dealings whenever Beatrice visits the Middle East? She has work and social commitments there.

The criticism regarding the trips to the Middle East is directed more at Eugenie, who is regularly invited to Bahrain with her entire family. Of course, there doesn't necessarily has to be anything behind it. Andrew had lots of business connections with the Midddle East and some of them might have been dubious.

Beatrice has her own LinkedIn profile. There she states that she has recently founded her own company and co founded another company helping with dyslexia. Looks like her work for "Afiniti" has changed to temporary strategic advisor.

And her new company has a rather vague description - it can mean almost anything: "BY - EQ is a mission led advisory firm working with technology and market leading companies to maximise the positive impact they can have."

I agree, I can't really picture what the job title entails, although her last role at Afiniti wasn't clearly defined for me either. Sometimes I think royal members are getting a job like this mainly because of their status and title.

Looking at LinkedIn profiles nowadays, I notice that the same terms are very often used to describe jobs . Much of it is vague and not clearly defined. As a counter-example, I can immediately think of the LinkedIn profiles of some other royals, which clearly describe what their work involves (e.g., Sebastien de Nassau, Louise of Belgium).

2011 was a long time ago and the ladies have grown and mature beyond their "twit" years for sure like all people do. Glad to read they are not being ostracized by the family or the press because of the antics of both parents.

It's difficult for a parent to have to deal with a child in problems like these, but this is going on reverse. The daughters are the mature ones dealing with parents that have no clue on what their actions were. Reminds me of the British TV series Absolutely Fabulous where the daughter was the 'adult' in the house dealing with a deranged mom Edwina and her best drinking friend Patsy. The Yorks now resemble fictional TV characters.

I find the footage of the sisters hugging very moving but typically intrusive. Thankfully they are close.
It's so invading and for the expressions they have I bet the photographer was hiding and using a zoom lens you could see the rings of Saturn. He invaded their private walk only to have his editor fill in the blanks with the article.
They should be left alone, but the press is not getting anything new on Andrew these past days, so his children are the target now.

Yes they appear to be close and I do hope that they can support each other during these turbulent times for themselves and their families.

Sarah's latest book has been withdrawn from sale.

Thank you for the update.

Here is some earlier reporting about the effects of the Jeffrey Epstein scandal on Sarah Ferguson.

On November 6, from Richard Palmer of the i Paper:

‘“She’s been cut adrift,” a friend of Ferguson said. “I’m trying to keep her spirits up but when I spoke to her, she seemed very lonely and isolated.”

Her daughters, Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie, and ex-husband have remained loyal, the longtime friend insisted. […]

Another friend, the socialite and party planner Liz Brewer, said Ferguson had always been a “very personable person” but asked if she was welcome at high society gatherings at the moment, she replied: “No.”

Brewer added: “People, unfortunately, are not brave enough to make their own minds up. She’s in a very difficult position.”

Ferguson has since been dropped by the charities that gave her ambassadorships and shunned by the media companies that once capitalised on her royal presence.

ITV sources say she will no longer be welcome as a guest contributor on its daytime shows, This Morning and Loose Women.

[…]

Ferguson could negotiate a million-dollar fee for a new revelatory interview, which would resonate around the world. A poison pen memoir, dishing the dirt on the royal family who cast her out, could fetch up to £5m.

But friends say Ferguson is unlikely to say anything that would embarrass her daughters, Beatrice and Eugenie, and damage their still-friendly relationship with members of the Royal Family, including the Prince of Wales.

The i Paper understands that Ferguson will instead lie low for a while [...]

It is understood that her focus will now be on her own charity, the SF Trust, which has removed all references to the Duchess of York from its website.”

On October 31, from BBC culture reporter Noor Nanji:

‘But in September, several charities dropped her as patron or ambassador after the emergence of an email from 2011 in which she called Epstein her "supreme friend" and seemed to apologise for her public criticism of him.

The only charity she is still linked with is her own foundation, Sarah's Trust.

It used to have a "duchess collection" - a range of products including tea and biscuit sets to raise funds for the charity - but the website for that is no longer active.

Its causes include supporting vulnerable communities, including "forgotten women" globally.

BBC News has made multiple attempts to contact the charity to ask if such a cause is appropriate given Ms Ferguson's ties to Epstein. But the phone number listed is not recognised, and emails bounced back.

We raised this with the Charity Commission, who said one of its team has been in touch with the charity reminding it to keep their contact details up to date.

[…]

Ms Ferguson's other publishers have remained tight-lipped when asked whether they plan to sever links with her.

Harper Collins, which has published two of her titles, the most recent being A Most Intriguing Lady which came out in 2023, declined to comment but pointed to the fact that both her books remain in print and available.

"Publishers don't tend to drop authors, they just quietly don't renew contracts," said Neill Denny, editor of the book trade news website Book Brunch.’

According to this article in "Express" Princess Eugenie is said to be preparing a guest suite in her luxurious £3.6million villa in Portugal.
Not a bad fate living in beautiful and sunny Portugal for retirement IMO

Thanks!

The article portrays the possibility as a "maybe", qualifying it as "is said to be" and "could be". It seems there is no definite confirmation yet on where Sarah Ferguson might live.

Yes, especially considering the millions of pounds and dollars that have passed through Sarah’s hands since her divorce. Not the ‘loans’ of course but the sponsorships she picked up from firms like Weight Watchers, Wedgewood china etc, the TV series in both the UK and US, and the many books she’s written over the years.

My heart goes out to them.

When I was a young teen, a friend's father got nailed in a dirty police scandal. The family just vanished, Texas or Colorado we heard. The children never really bounced back. I know Andrew has never been charged or convicted of anything, but the black cloud over his head and Sarah's must be a burden for B and E and their spouses.

Princess Beatrice and Sienna were seen riding shortly after Andrew:

In recent months, the BBC, normally reserved in its reporting on British royalty, has published several articles critical of the York princesses by culture reporter Noor Nanji.

The latest focuses on their mentions in the latest Jeffrey Epstein email release, but also reviews other criticisms. It quotes Andrew Lownie extensively (as well as the more reliable Richard Palmer).

'Both princesses are repeatedly mentioned in the latest dump of Epstein files.

[…]

An exchange between Epstein and his assistant seems to suggest he paid for the family's flights, totalling "for all tickets: $14,080.10".

But it was not all one way.

On several occasions Epstein appears to ask Ferguson if her daughters can meet people, and on one appears to ask for them to show the redacted person Buckingham Palace.

Once, Ferguson apologises, saying they were not around and explaining their whereabouts.

[…]

According to the most recently available accounts, donations [to Eugenie's charity, The Anti-Slavery Collective] have slumped - from £1.5m in 2024 to £48,000 in the year ending 2025, although it has a healthy sum of money in reserves. No income was raised from events or auctions in the year to 2025, compared with the previous financial year when a major gala fundraiser was held.

[…]

BBC News has approached the Anti-Slavery Collective multiple times to ask for a comment in light of the latest controversy surrounding Andrew and Epstein, but it has not responded.

We also approached a number of other charities the princesses are involved with, asking whether they retain their confidence in light of the recent emails.

Outward Bound said Princess Beatrice is involved with the group "in her honorary role as Deputy Patron".

But Salvation Army, which has a long-standing partnership with Eugenie, struck a more cautious note. "We place victims and survivors at the heart of all our decision making and we are closely monitoring this story," a spokesperson said.

Away from their charity work, the princesses both also have jobs.

Beatrice founded advisory firm BY-EQ, while Eugenie works as a director at the art gallery Hauser & Wirth in Mayfair.

It has recently faced legal challenges regarding alleged breaches of Russian sanctions, though it strongly contests these accusations. There is no suggestion of wrongdoing by Eugenie. Southwark Crown Court told BBC News the trial date had been set for 2028.

Princess Beatrice has business connections in the Middle East

Last year, around the time her father lost his prince title, Beatrice was pictured at an investment summit in Saudi Arabia. Her family have long-held links to the Middle East and she also recently appeared in a promotional picture for a UAE bank.

[…]

The princess [Beatrice], [royal reporter Richard Palmer] said, built her career off the back of her royal status and introductions her parents gave her, "meeting all sorts of business contacts and members of royal families abroad".

[...]

It is understood the princesses do pay rent on their royal properties. But the Palace would not confirm if it is paid at a market rate. It comes at a time of mounting calls for wider transparency about royal finances, following the outcry over Andrew's lease agreement at his former Windsor mansion.

[…]

Privately, the princesses remain in touch with their parents, says Palmer. "From what I understand, they are still speaking to them," he says, "and want to remain loyal to them."

But in public, he says, they will keep their distance. "They need to separate themselves publicly from their parents otherwise risk the toxicity spreading further to them."'

The DM reports that Sarah Ferguson is plotting an astonishing comeback to public life – very much without her ex-husband, Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor. She told friends that "she needs money"
The former Duchess of York, is lying low while she 'gets her head together', having recently spent a few days with friends in the French Alps before moving on to the United Arab Emirates.
She has also been spending time with her youngest daughter, Princess Eugenie, 35, who has been in the region for work, attending an art fair in Doha, Qatar, in her role as a director at dealer Hauser and Wirth.

"she needs money" where have we heard that before ;)

No wonder she needed Epstein's money! Sarah Ferguson's lavish lifestyle at Sunninghill Park - where she demanded £300 worth of vegetables a week and insisted staff iron her tights

The co-authors spoke to staff members at the royal's sprawling 50,000-acre Sunninghill Estate to gain a real insight into Fergie's numerous 'foibles', including a requirement to have all of her knickers, bras and tights meticulously ironed by staff.

If any of her laundry did not smell of her preferred fabric conditioner 'she would order everything to be washed again'.

Towels, flannels, hand soaps and even toilet paper were said to have been 'embossed with the initials A & S' while, according to Lownie, the annual cost of guarding the house alone came to a whopping £300,000.

The former Duchess was also insistent that 'two hot water bottles be placed on the side of her king-sized bed each night, ordering staff to measure the temperature of the water so it was exactly to her liking'.

Fergie was also adamant that she should receive freshly squeezed orange juice every morning, with the oranges squeezed 'just as she sat down'.

She owned an apartment in central London until recently. Why did she sell it? Her and Andrew could have simply just moved there.

It was a £4.2million townhouse. Apparently the person renting it wanted to buy it and it was an investment property. Lots of media said it was an investment for "the girls" and Beatrice and Eugenie had to provide written consent for anything to do with the property inc selling it.
Personally I assumed it was never really Sarahs as such and was brought using the money set aside for the girls in Sarah's divorce - £1.4million according to many sources. Invested wisely (which I assume the late Queen would have had her advisors do) it would super easily have allowed them to buy a property of that value.

Quote in the Mail from a "royal source" distancing the Prince and Princess of Wales from the York princesses:

"'William and Kate don't appear to be close to either of the sisters. They haven’t got that much in common,' a source told the Daily Mail.
[...]
Eugenie's closeness with Prince Harry and Meghan Markle is said to have left the Princess of Wales 'cautious' since Megxit, and Kate is 'seldom seen' with either sister, they added.
[...]
'William has made a point of inviting Beatrice and Eugenie, and other cousins, to help him host a Buckingham Palace garden party once a year. But there’s no sign of him ever wanting his cousins to be taxpayer-funded working royals. That’s been made pretty clear,' the Daily Mail's royal source said.

'Eugenie, particularly, seems to be closer to Harry than she is to William.'"

The article also quotes a "royal insider" describing the sisters as "entitled", with this example:

"'[...] Beatrice and Eugenie grew up in this rarefied world in which there was always someone to do everything for you. That was illustrated when Beatrice had her BMW stolen in 2009 after leaving it unlocked with the car keys in the ignition. I think she was used to her police protection officer looking after such things. [...]'"

If having left the car unlocked or left car keys in the ignition is a sign of rarefied entitlement, there are quite a few of us in that state...
