Willem-Alexander and Máxima clearly love all black labs. IIRC, it was one of their first pets as a couple. I seem to recall one in their engagement photos and even as the girls grew up there was always a black lab at the photosessions.
I wonder if this new addition is a descendant from one of their earlier black labs. I do love the name Jagger!

This was reported last week too in the gossip press. Rick Evers, royalty reporter, said that he had enquired and that his sources around the court firmly say it is all nonsense. When a luxery apartment or house here in Amsterdam doesn't sell we get some of these articles too, a foreign celebrity takes an interest... all of it bogus of course, but a tactic by the real estate agent to generate attention for the property. We will see if that is the case here. In the IMO small possibility that this news is true, it must mean that the King and Queen have taken a leave of their senses.

According to a ´juice channel´ the Queen was spotted shopping incognito in The Hague at Max Mara. She was accompanied by relatives. Although earlier reports claimed they were going to Argentina this year, perhaps the Argentinian family is actually in The Netherlands.

A pity they couldn't find a photo where the clothes were less wrinkled and where Pss Alexia looks less bored, though the latter may be too much to ask. The King and Queen look good in the photo though. And at least they didn't use the picture they made at the university itself where Alexia looked more disheveled. A nice thing of the photo is that Amalia is center stage. The last year we have seen so much more of her and it is great to see her grow into her role and thrive.

A nice detail - as every year- is that they have the wishes in Dutch, English, Spanish, Frisian and Papiamento. The latter being the language spoken on some of the Caribean islands of the Kingdom.

It’s clearly a signal and she is just in time because the age limit to start is 55 years old, which she will turn in May. Reservists can serve until they are 63.

In the past she did participate in some military exercises and I assume Amalia’s recent experiences helped to make this decision as well.

the two consorts before Maxima:
P.Claus: was from Germany, relatively soon after WWII, so if he would have been involved in the military, i'm sure people would have had even stronger opinions than they had already
P.Bernhard: lost his military involvement (iirc) due to the Lockheed affaire

Also, different from some other countries, in the NL the military wasn't really appreciated that much for years, so as long as there were no real threads of war, many people sort of took the military for granted
Some current people in power in other parts of the world are imo changing that perspective in the NL...

Prince Hendrik was not too much involved with the military either, it was something Wilhelmina loved and found very important. Bernhard was thrown at the army at the end of WWII, when he became the commander of the Domestic Armed Forces. Juliana was in Canada with the children at the time.

Prince Claus perhaps did not want involvement in the military either, he wasn´t the man for uniforms and all that.

Queen Máxima began her training as a reservist for the Royal Netherlands Army today. She signed up because, like other reservists, she wants to contribute to the security of the Netherlands.

Reservists play a crucial role in supporting the armed forces. Queen Máxima currently holds the rank of private. Upon completion of her training, she will be promoted to the rank of lieutenant colonel.

Queen Máxima attended the "Mental Skills" training course in Breda today.

I love seeing this! This is not the first time that Queen Maxima has done military training. Even as Queen, she has decided to invest herself in being a reservist! She does not need to do this. But, she's taken the initiative to do it. Just like Queen Mary who, as Crown Princess, joined the Home Guard and over the years has done the training/education and exercises to work her way up.

I think it is so amazing to see these future Queens/Queens do this. I think it shows commitment, respect and really a modern royal woman. Both Queen Mary and Queen Maxima are bad as*es.

Indeed! Great for them to draw even more attention to the armed forces and make people aware there is also this programme for reservists. As Amalia's training drew attention to Defensity College, hopefully Máxima's [and Mary's and Victoria's] efforts will lead in more interest for this particular training, which is important in the times we live in, with enemies on Europe's Eastern border and on the other side of the Atlantic too it seems.
