:previous:

The restraurant -Tinto Bistro- belongs to Máxima's brother Martin. The dinner took place on January 1st.

I don't think we often had these paparazzi-style photos of the Princesses before.

from recent browsing of the forum - I have been made aware of comments regarding the number of vacations that the couple and the family take - is this something that has come from press in the Netherlands and increased bad feeling about the Royals in the Netherlands. How popular are they as King and Queen - I always thought they were popular in particular Maxima

I don't begrudge them spending time in Argentina as that is where Maxima is from and her mother is getting older and it is only naturally that she wants to visit more (Queen Mary makes trips back to Australia). However I do feel that access to the girls and them carrying out engagements is very very limited. 2 of them now are adults and whilst they are in studies I do accept that - I feel compared to their generation of royals we seem and know them the least.

* moderators please move this to the correct thread if this is the wrong one - sorry

After being 20 days in the Netherlands it is time for the winter vacation, the government airplane has been spotted in Austria.

The first public duty is planned on february 11th, so they will only be on vacation for one week. For the rest of the country around the weekend of the 16th the one-week school holiday will start and many will go to the Alps. The winter ski vacation is very common for middle class families.

They do seem to go away an awful lot. That is up to them to a degree I guess but they often /always? seem to use the government plane so it is costing the taxpayers I assume therefore it is a legitimate public issue.

For long distance flights (outside of Europe) they typically fly KLM instead of using the government plane which would need to make multiple stops,

King Willem-Alexander and Queen Máxima have congratulated Dutch Director Victoria Warmerdam for winning an Oscar. Her Dutch movie "I'm Not a Robot" has won an Oscar for the best short film:

“Our warmest congratulations to Oscar winner Victoria Warmerdam. A great achievement and an international tribute to Dutch film art.”– King Willem-Alexander and Queen Máxima

According to royal reporter Max van de Broek, the king watches 'VI' (Football International - a well-known but somewhat controversial tv program discussing football/soccer).

I have never heard of Max van de Broek. How would he know what the King watches on television? Not that it is surprising he watches this show. Although it is vulgar many find it entertaining.

Max van den Broek is royalty reporter for the Telegraaf. I recall seeing him at the Caribbean Tour but apparently he has been around a bit longer. I guess these things come up in more informal conversations between members of the press and the royal family?!

He also covers tv programs such as Wie is de Mol and the Eurovision Song Contest. He is currently on Cyprus for the State Visit.

Well sports do tend to bring out ones worst instincts at times, but they can be enjoyed in small bits

According to this Spanish magazine, Máxima and Amalia were together in Madrid last weekend. Supposedly they were spotted as the departmentstore El Corte Inglés in Serrano. Their dog Mambo was there too.

I am not sure how reliable this is. Under the article they refer to Julian Moore. I assume they must have meant Julianne Moore.

Nala, the black Labrador dog of the King and Queen, has died.

That leaves the toy poodle Mambo and the black labrador Luna, who is the daughter of Nala.

That's sad news for them ,how old was Nala?

I do not know the exact age, but Nala's name was first mentioned here in 2015, so at least 10 years, rather a bit more. She was the one who got seven puppies in 2018. The life expectancy of labradors is 10 to 12 years, so this doesn't seem unusual.

Yesterday evening, April 5, Queen Máxima attended a concert of Ladies of Soul in Amsterdam and went backstage - a great video :)

A loss to say goodbye to any pet, but the memories gained are such comforts at times

Sorry about Nala!

Great to see the Queen let her hair down and sing such legendary songs!

One of the singers is familiar or a family friend. Trijntje Oosterhuis, singer of the 90-ties band Total Touch, is the daughter of theologican Huub Oosterhuis, a friend of Prince Claus who spoke at his funeral. IIRC Trijntje also helped with the musical Amalia helped organise/ participated in during her last year of secondary school which was held in the royal theatre of the Hague, formerly Palace Nassau-Weilburg of Pss Carolina.

According to the king, their daughters were raised trilingual (Dutch, Spanish, English) but speak Dutch among each other; as real teenagers, there were times when they weren't really interested in speaking Spanish with their mother (as was the expectation) - as she understood Dutch anyway; but later on they started to appreciate the value of speaking multiple languages.

Day 1 of the state visit from Oman (see here) seems not to have been too busy for Queen Máxima ;), according to the agencies/royal reporters she was seen shopping with the family's dog Mambo - at least she was seen arriving back to the Palace with a shopping bag ;)

It seems she went to the Bijenkorf, the department store on Dam Square, a few minutes away from the palace.

The focus of the interview is on Máxima's work to battle loneliness - although she prefers to call it 'for connection'; as according to her that is the core of what people can do; make sure that everyone feels connected and valued.

Those are some of the best portraits ever made of the Queen, by photographer Robin de Puy. These more toned down outfits also help. I believe she is posing in the Chinese and/or Japanese room of Huis ten Bosch.

Let´s hope they will use this photographer more often.

Out and about again:
In the last few hours, it has emerged that King Willem-Alexander and Queen Maxima are in Argentina. The information was released by journalist Gustavo Méndez, who confirmed that the monarchs are resting in our country.

According to the report, the Dutch monarchs landed this Monday at 5:30 a.m. on a KML Airlines flight from Amsterdam. They were not traveling alone, but were accompanied by Maxima's mother, María del Carmen Cerruti, who had been present at Willem's birthday celebrations.

On this occasion, the couple's daughters were not invited, so it is presumed that this was a family reunion trip and a break from their activities. After arriving in Buenos Aires, the couple took a flight to San Carlos de Bariloche, in Argentine Patagonia, where they will travel to Villa La Angostura.

They'll have to be back at the latest on May 4 for the yearly Commemoration of the Death at the Square in Amsterdam.
