In July of this year, President Donald Trump's state visit to the United Kingdom was announced, and it will take place next week:
The President of the United States of America, President Donald J. Trump, accompanied by the First Lady Mrs. Melania Trump, has accepted an invitation from His Majesty The King to pay a State Visit to the United Kingdom from 17 September to 19 September 2025.

His Majesty The King will host The President and Mrs. Trump at Windsor Castle.

It sounds like they intend to keep Trump hidden away at Windsor during the entire visit....and that there will be "no public facing events".

I thought a public carriage ride with the Wales' was on the schedule?🤔

There's going to be a carriage procession, but it will be entirely within the castle estate. Maybe from Frogmore up to the castle or something like that.
I am sure the carriage ride will be within the secure security ring of the Castle and its environs, and not through the town centre, as is often the case for visiting dignitaries.

The good news is that the weather looks fine, and unlike the last few days, no rain has been forecast.

Given that Trump insisted that everyone attending the US Open men's singles final be put through airport-style security scanners because of his attendance, causing the start of the final to be delayed and many people who'd paid hundreds of dollars for tickets to miss most of the first set, I very much doubt that he'd agree to a carriage ride through the town centre! As Muriel said, it'll probably just be through the secure area.

The Royal House releases more information about the state visit:

As a reminder: please note that any OT comments on the president of the US or political comments in general will be removed from this thread and the focus will be solely on the visit itself.

I watched an interview with Trump this morning where a journalist asked him about the visit, and Trump talked about how what a good, longtime friend King Charles is. Which surprised me a little. Are they good friends? Do they know each other at all outside of Trump's previous state visit?

He always says someone is his ‘good friend,’ so I wouldn’t take it too seriously.

Surprised me he called him Charles first name no formality, then said he was the first head of state to get a second state visit … not accurate the Queen of Denmark made 2 state visits to the UK and then went on having the honour of it being at Windsor like they changed it specially for him. Did he miss Macron’s visit??

Charles has known Trump for many years. I don't think they were ever friends personally, but they are now professional friends!

I figured they would know each other from both being 'big people' on the world stage, but the way Trump described it, you would think they had each other labelled as BFF on Whatsapp :)

Before the state visit begins, a look back at US Presidential state visits to the UK.

Live from today's state visit.

It all feels like rather an anti-climax. I understand the security concerns, and I understand the concerns that, given the many controversies surrounding Trump, people might have turned up to boo him, but having a carriage ride that just goes through the Windsor estate seems very silly.

There are tourists outside the castle, and some of them are wearing MAGA hats and presumably would therefore like to see Trump, but no-one's seeing anything other than a very ugly steel wall.

We already had security drama this past week in the USA and don't need any more, especially happening anywhere near the UK royals. For the paying audience at the US Open, it's just a game inconvenience no different that any rock concert delayed by the main act. In this case for today, all security issues have to clear to protect the royals and the visiting dignitary and his wife.

I'm watching in on TV live right now and the rapport between Trump and king Charles looks like two old friends, that have been through a lot lately at the personal and health level, getting together for a family visit and catching up with life and their advance age.

Remember Trump was born in 1946, and Charles was born in 1948. They are contemporaries sharing experiences in different parts of the world from the Cold War to the Beatles Era and beyond to today's internet age. I bet they can talk for hours on anecdotes about their youth and what they have seen in life.

I like how all three couples coordinated their colours between husband and wife. Perhaps it’s just the photos, but Queen Camilla looks a bit tired to me. I hope she’s feeling well enough to attend the state banquet tonight.

The King can talk to anyone diplomatically, he has been doing it his whole life and had a great example with the late Queen. They must entertain any head of state the government decides upon, from the most vile dictators to close allies. This is his job, I doubt he is friends with any of them, possibly fellow royal heads of state.

The Queen is looking wonderful, hope she is feeling better

Very true, it's a job, and one the RF does well. Trump has been invited for a reason, and he seems to be basking in the warm welcome from Charles.

Four men have been arrested after a giant image of Donald Trump with Jeffrey Epstein was projected onto part of Windsor Castle:

I am surprised this was allowed to happen - one would think security is tighter in that area surrounding high profile visits such as this one. the images were quite clear so I am assuming they were beamed from not too far.

Beamed from a hotel across the road from the castle, outside the security zone. Quite ingenious, in a way...

It’s surprising that they were arrested. I know yesterday, a group unfurled a giant picture of Trump and Epstein on a lawn outside the walls of the palace and I didn’t hear of any arrests related to that (though I may have missed it).
