Today I read an article about Prince Nikolaos, and the article talked about the Prince Nikolaos and a solidary event (ELPÎDA)....but the blog talk too of his passport. Prince Nikolaos had a Greek passport, but after the 1995 law, which took away the passport to all the Family, he has an US passport, for this reason the US embassy in Greece invites the Prince to all events..... AND I imagine that Nikolaos will be invited to the presentation of the NEW ambassador.;);)
I wonder, what passport does Prince Pavlos have? USA or Great Britain. He had a military career in Great Britain, but, in 1995 he resided in the USA like his brother Nikolaos, so I think that he could also has an USA passport, but I have doubts, because he gave a scholarship to a medical student, created by himself weeks ago.. and it was given in Thessalonika, the British ambassador was at this event :ermm::ermm:

Unless any of them have actively moved to change it, Nikolaos and all his siblings hold Danish diplomatic passports.

How would Nikolaos qualify for a US passport?

How would Nikolaos qualify for a US passport?
I don't quite understand what you're asking. In 1995, a Greek law removed passports from all members of the Greek Family. When this law went into effect, Prince Nikolaos was living in the United States, working for FOX for years, and living in New York for over four years. Given the circumstances, he did not have a passport from any country, he was stateless, and the United States granted him a passport. Prince Nikolaos, in an interview in July 2023, said that he wanted Greece to give him back his passport, because he was Greek, he had a different passport due to circumstances (law of 1995), but he felt Greek and loved Greece. Regarding his US passport, although he does not feel American, and it is the circumstances that have caused him to carry this passport, he is grateful. I even read an interview in the past, where he admired the United States and liked New York very much. He has always had words of gratitude and admiration for the United States. And I think this is the right thing to do, he always responds to invitations from the U.S. Embassy in Athens, who invite him, as a U.S. citizen because he has a U.S. passport, and he has good relations with the ambassadors of this country.

A Danish passport (see Archduchess Zelia's comment) is a passport, so he was never stateless. So, how would he qualify for a US passport? And who claims he has this passport?

How did he obtain US citizenship? When did he obtain US citizenship?

Crown Prince Pavlos has applied for Greek citizenship, as did his brother Nicholas:

They seem to be opting for the surname 'de Grece'.

Very interesting that the Greek Royal Family are trying to obtain Greek citizenship.

I hope the Greek citizenship is granted and that there are no unnecessary obstacles in their applications.

Huge news, glad to see Pavlos' children are also part of it.

In my opinion the news is false.
I doubt that the Prince will submit to the content of the Venizelos law, because it is a degrading law, in which he would have to recognize that his family were foreigners, even sign that he agrees not to claim anything from the state, and that the monarchy is not a viable form in Greece....
I doubt the veracity of the information.
First because the Greek media speak of a Danish surname that would be in his current passport, DANISH. This is a lie, no member of the GREEK ROYAL FAMILY CURRENTLY HAS A DANISH PASSPORT, only Queen Anna Maria, Prince Pavlos and Prince Nikolaos have had an American passport since 1995, Princess Alexia has had a Spanish passport since 1995, Prince Philippos and Princess Theodora have pastport britain. THEY ARE NOT DANISH like say the newspapers.

Second, Prince Pavlos has expressed his intention to recover his nationality, that is false, Prince Pavlos has said that he wants to have a Greek passport, but he has asked for the repeal of the Venizelos law of 1994, a degrading law.

Prince Nikolaos is not in the information published by the first media outlet, it was the other media outlets who included him, but he was not in the original information

Third, this same news was published in May and was denied days later.
Currently, there is no record of any open proceedings in the Greek administration, for any member of the Royal family, and I am not saying this, the press itself says it.

I remember reading part of the content of that 1994 law, and it required a family name, a promise to the Republican Constitution... but I also remember that it said that Constantine and his son had to sign a document in which they renounced the democratic monarchy, and They promised not to present claims to the state over their former assets.

If Prince Pavlos acquires nationality in this way, I ask:
Can he continue to say that he is Crown Prince?

I personallity think that it is false. I admit that I would be disappointed to see Pavlos accept this law, which his father rejected in defence of the truth. He was not a foreigner, he was born in Greece, his parents were Greek, he won an Olympic medal... I highly value King Constantine for his defence of it. He always refused to accept the content of this law, and he died waiting for the repeal of a law which, by the way, as I read, is quite unconstitutional.

On the other hand, with regard to what Protothema says about the surname, this cannot be true, because Pavlos does not have a Danish passport, in that case he would choose an English surname, of Greece, no danish.
I am glad to know that Queen Anna Maria is maintaining her husband's position.

According to the protothema article the application was signed by all 5 children of king Konstantinos and Queen Anne Marie as well as Pavlos' 5 children.

I say this because what I'm reading is starting to seem really crazy, and now, I'm reading that THE GRANDCHILDREN HAVE ALSO REQUESTED IT, 2 children of Aexia and 5 of Pavlos.
I do not believe that Pavlos' children have requested a GREEK PASSPORT, because if it is granted, they are of military age and will have to join the Greek army, and even less so Alexia's children, as I am reading.
The first media outlet to publish this information said that Prince Pavlos had applied for citizenship, but the Minister of the Interior had no record of this, and he recalled that he could not apply for it through ordinary means, but rather through the Venizelos Law.
This did not apply to Prince Nikolaos or the rest of the family. But later, the media has been increasing it... Nationality is a personal process, not a group process.
Queen Anne Marie, and I am reading this in all the media, has not requested a passport.

Surnames are often based on locations; I don't see a problem with them choosing 'of Greece' as an official surname when the same was recently done in Romania to change the dynastic name to be away from their German Hohenzollern name.

Queen Anna Maria will not go along with the Venizelos Law
<<As part of the citizenship process, applicants must submit a declaration recognising Greece’s political system, renounce any claims tied to the previous monarchy, and select a surname for their registration in the municipal records.>>

She has declined to apply for a Greek passport. In the future, it will be written that, King Constantine and Queen Anna Maria and Princess Irene, they did not accept the Venizelos Law .

Yesterday on ANT1's morning show, they went to the door of Prince Pavlos' residence to ask him, and he answered in a very vague way, and avoided saying anything about the surname and on the contrary, he ran away from the questions and went home .

"We came here for a few days and then I will go back to England. The issue of Greek citizenship is progressing on its own and is not over yet, so thank you very much for your interest," Prince Pavlos told ANT1. When asked about the surname "De Gres", he did not want to answer.

It is obvious that it bothers him to be asked about the topic, he was nervous

How did Nikolaos obtain American nationality?

That's a good question. He went to college in the United States and lived in New York for a while after college, but that's it. Unless he was classified as a political refuge or something -- which I doubt, since the United States has diplomatic ties with Greece -- he wouldn't qualify under normal rules.

That's probably wise. At this point in her life, why would she bother? She also wouldn't want to create problems with the Danes, who might question her preferring a Greek passport at this point.

Maybe things aren't unfolding the way Pavlos had presumed.

I'm also fascinated at the report that two of Alexia's children are seeking passports. I wonder why.

There is a lot of confusion here.
De Grece was the surname that Prince Michael had in his French passport, and whose sound he used to create a surname in 2004, when he acquired Greek nationality under the Venizelos Law.
King Constantine and Queen Anna Maria had Danish passports, the Danish passport said HM King Constantine DE GRECIA (in Spanish), DE GRECIA, because it was recognized as a surname in Spain and Danish law allowed it to be used in his Danish passport. fra Grækenland, I think is "From Greece" in Danish. Therefore De Grece is the surname of Michael of Greece and comes from French.

Prince Nikolaos received his passport because he was in a stateless situation, a person without a passport, this situation is prohibited in Europe, and in the USA in most International Treaties. Prince Nikolaos has been invited to the US national holiday since he has been living in Greece, even the US Ambassador went to his photography exhibition in Athens. He was not in Denmark on the day the 1994 law came into force, he was in the USA.

I hope that Prince Pavlos and Princess Alexia have thoroughly analysed the situation, because the GREEK PRESS keeps reminding that as soon as their children have a Greek passport they will have to do military service in the Greek army. I hope that Pavlos and Alexia have taken this into consideration, refusing to do so is a crime.
And on the other hand, this is the part I would like to see the most, I am looking forward to seeing Constantine, Achileas and Carlos in the Greek army, one day I read that according to their height they are classified like Evzones, based on Constantine's height, he could be one of the Evzones.....This would be great, Grandpa Constantine would be very proud of them

And I ask, could Prince Philippos also be called up to the army? I read that you can be called up until you are 45.

Hi everybody. It is official, published in the Government's Gazette, greek nationality was granted to all five children of Constantine and Anne-Marie as well as all five children of Pavlos and Marie Chantal.

But Nikolaos was not stateless. Anne-Marie, her husband and their five children were granted Danish diplomatic passports. So, again, why would he have been granted an American passport and American nationality?

Is there a link to the Government's Gazette?

Should we expect Pavlos' sons to enroll for military service in Greece now? Or are they exempt for living abroad?

Welp, at least Odysseas with his health condition could get and exemption, methinks.

The Greek Royal Family Facebook group has just published the minutes of the State Gazette in which the following have been officially declared Greek after fulfilling the conditions of the 1994 Law:
Pavlos, Alexia, Nikolaosd, Teodora, Filippos, and the children of Prince Pavlos and Marie Chantal:
Constantine, Achileas, Olympia, Odysseas, Aristides. None of Princess Alexia's children have applied for Greek nationality.

What family name did they take then after all?

As I understood it: De Grece!

the surmane is ΝΤΕ ΓΚΡΕΣ, its sound is De Gres.
This is the surname that Prince Michel created in 2004 when he acquired Greek nationality. He took his surname in his French passport, De Grèce, and its sound, De Gres, into the Greek alphabet, resulting in De Gres.
