The Tower of London

It was probably near, quiet and convenient. Better than transporting bodies through the City.

Anne and her brother George were close in life, so that would be company. They could ignore his wife!

How the Yeomen Warders got the name Beefeaters has been a matter of debate,in 1669 the Grand Duke of Tuscany commented that "A very large ration of beef is given to them daily at the court, and they might be called Beef-eaters".

I hope they make them pay for any damage & that they are given a good spanking & sent to bed early by mummy for being such silly self important little brats.

That's so strange and really quite sad as an expression of how unhappy people are feeling. I think many people are seriously concerned about the tax burden here in the UK and the 'International wealthy' floating about going in and out of the country have never really paid that much beyond buying trophy houses and lifestyle stuff and get lots of the perks of living here but not much of the responsibility. That is, I suspect, what seems to annoy people and in London and the South East where this disparity is most visible.

I saw a post from one of the Manners sisters (Lady Eliza the youngest) on social a few weeks ago when Sothebys held a dinner there at the Tower to showcase items in a forthcoming jewelery sale. Hosted by Harry Roseberry (formely Dalmeny before his father passed) some interesting consigned lots from various origins to later be sold at Geneva in early November included a brooch worn by said to be worn by Emperor Napoleon. Guests had earlier toured the Jewel vaults and exhibition rooms before dinner, the rooms that show the Crown Jewels as displayed are understandibly not to be photographed, in my view, in case someone gets security clues.

Food waste is also really not nice to see, although it's much easier to clean off. At the moment some people are really cutting back on groceries due to cost of living crisis in the UK so traditional Crumble and Custard is a treat, or even needed calories and sugar that, some people are probably skipping these days or maybe only have at day care respite centres especially if they are elderly and worried about bills. Maybe that is part of what they are trying to say? Not sure but wasteful.

This here is probably the wrong thread in the Royal Forums, but the UK has a lot of tax havens in it's jurisdiction. In Europe for example Guernsey and the Isle of Wight. Are they not under a special regime in which the Crown plays a role? But I really have not got the faintest idea what "crown dependency" means...

If it means, what I think it means, the protestors here might have a point....

We have such youngsters here too, they even go farther and have t- shirts printed with "EAT THE RICH", whatever that means. And indeed those are usually spoilt little brats. I have nothing against people rising their voices or go to the streets if they want to demonstrate for or against something, but this is just a no go, reminds me of those people who destroyed valuable paintings some time ago.

I'd suggest they be locked up in the Tower, with all the comforts of the 15th century.

Sick and tired of these people.

Crown Dependencies & British Overseas Territories are not part of the UK.

The Isle of Wight is an English county mostly known for old fashioned British seaside type holidays.

It's a generation that's never been told 'no' or ever faced consequences for their actions.
And as we are talking about this topic
A female member of parliament from the youth organization of the left "Green Party" appeared several times in parliament wearing a T-shirt with the slogan "ACAB," which stands for "All cops are bastards," and was finally asked to stop wearing it in parliament. And this in a society where the police are under enormous strain every day due to the dramatically increased crime rate.
She can be lucky that she hasn't been in a situation that she needed the police for protection, what utter ignorance some of these people have, it is disgusting.

Utterly disgraceful behaviour and I hope they are made do community service ,fined and made clean up the mess they made!

Love that the Tower of London has a Ravenmaster to keep and care for the 6 or 7 ravens that live there. Legend has it that if the captive Ravens leave the Tower will fall along with the monarchy.

Imagine what the Tower would have looked like when first constructed and especially when reconstructed in stone!
A symbol of Norman control on the Population of London at that time!

There were 2 other castles in London at that time too
Baynard's Castle at Fleetditch anf Montfichet's Tower
