The Royal Family Order (RFO) and other Royal Orders and Decorations 2: Sep 2022-

If you have answers, please help by responding to the unanswered posts.
There was an interview with Elizabeth Meek, the artist who painted the miniature for the Queen’s RFO in Country Life from August 6 (I get it 4 months late in Australia).

The interesting part to me was that the Queen’s RFO is the original. The Palace has also had four photographic replicas made that are slightly smaller than the Queen’s for the RFOs for the Princess Royal, Duchess of Edinburgh, Princess of Wales and Duchess of Gloucester.

What happens to an order that is no longer worn, like QC’s and Catherine’s of QEII? Are they returned to the King, or just placed away somewhere?

Interesting, I had thought they were all hand painted.

I believe that they are person property of the recipient. They were in the past at least hence why you see Victoria and Alberts RFO passed down to Princess Ingrid-Alexandra and other RFOs pop up at auction.

Right, I know about Ingrid’s bracelet, but the personal property is usually displayed for the lifetime of the recipient (as we see with the other royal ladies and the former order). It just seems odd and a bit sad to think of former-HM in a drawer somewhere with no chance of being worn for the foreseeable future.

(Hopefully Charlotte pins her on and runs around the house once in a while?)

Orders are jewels , what happened whith the Duchess of Kent Orders as she passed away.

The one of Queen Elizabeth II. or Queen Camilla?

Catherine has continued to wear QE11's, I did notice she did not have it on at the German state dinner but I thought it was because of the dress, it looked the Kings order was hooked over the collar of the dress, maybe it was not easy to pin it over the sequins, or it might have damaged the dress.

I assumed she was simply following the Queen’s lead. Guess we’ll have to see what happens in the future?

I think at times we can read into something that actually is nothing, probably a simple explanation that does not require any announcement.

I don’t think we can read much into Catherine’s RFO wearing at the German state banquet- I don’t think she would have been able to wear two orders on that dress so chose the one of the current sovereign.
We’ll just have to wait and see what Catherine does on future occasions before we know if she had stopped wearing HLMs or not.
