I really like the pictures of king Willem-Alexander and his aunt princess Margriet walking arm in arm.

Prince Pieter-Christiaan, prince Floris and princess Aimée were present as well!

Lovely to see them all! Margriet and Pieter surely raised a close knit family and all their sons seem to have happy and stable marriages.

There is no need for either of them to attend. It's just a (big) sports event. Amalia attended last year and apparently had other priorities yesterday (most likely related to her introduction period at the student corps). Ariane may not be interested in auto sports, might prefer spending her time with friends before she is off to school again or might be on her way to Italy again?!

For a random event, the royal family (especially the Van Vollenhovens) already showed up in large numbers - but that is mainly due to prince Bernhard's involvement with the Zandvoort circuit (he is one of the owners).

Edit: Ariane was expected back at UWC last week (second year students were to arrive on either Tuesday or Wednesday).

Iceflower posted pictures of Amalia together with Luana at Zandvoort further up in the thread, only Ariane wasn't there. I guess they got their tan proably from the recent holiday in in Greece.

I don't think Amalia was there this year. I have only seen Alexia.

Which pictures are you talking about? Can you share the specific link as I didn't see her this year (she clearly attended last year).

However, I did go through the pictures more extensively this time and noticed that prince Floris (with some help of his brother prince Pieter-Christiaan) was enjoying another stint as DJ.

There's no musical about her life (yet?). The gala was a musical performance with dancers, singers, instrumentalists, entitled "Marianna - Love, Hope, Light" in honour of her life and humanitarian work. The event was organised by the Vardi I. Vardinoyianni family, in collaboration with ”Marianna V. Vardinogianni Foundation“ and the ”ELPIDA-Association of Friends of Children with Cancer“.

This award was annually presented by either Constantijn or Friso, so it makes a lot of sense for Mabel to attend as well as Friso's widow (of over 10 years).

Princess Beatrix was absent. According to Prince Constantijn in RTL Boulevard, the former Queen was ill and her troubles with her voice. Queen Máxima was in London for a conference of bankers.

It was a shame that Princess Beatrix was ill and unable to attend,the king had additional support from his brother and sisters in law!

In this case it is the other way around. Prince Constantijn -as honorary chair- is the main royal for this event: he is the one handing out awards. His wife and brother’s (who was co-chair) widow attended as well as did his eldest brother the king.

King Willem-Alexander and Queen Máxima hold the traditional New Year's reception for Dutch guests today, January 13. Princess Beatrix, Princess Margriet and Prof. Pieter van Vollenhoven attend as well.

I still don't understand what is so secret at this New Years receptions that there are never pics from inside published

In 2014 the RVD made it's own recordings of the reception & put those on youtube, whcih were released to the press. It led to an avalanche of criticism about censorship of the press by royal correspondents and the editors of the big newspapers. The palace soon returned to the concept they had before: no press at all and no images either. Just a photo of the king and queen entering the palace and giving a wave and that is that.
