In 2014 the RVD made it's own recordings of the reception & put those on youtube, whcih were released to the press. It led to an avalanche of criticism about censorship of the press by royal correspondents and the editors of the big newspapers. The palace soon returned to the concept they had before: no press at all and no images either. Just a photo of the king and queen entering the palace and giving a wave and that is that.
But why do they have Press present at State Banquets and even at the Gala Dinner for the diplomatic Corps and not at the New Years reception? Never understand that

The Dutch Royal House also released photos of this event:

No surprise that Mabel attends but I think it is the first time she brings either (and both) her daughter and niece.

Today, King Willem-Alexander presented the new standard to the Hussars of the Regiment, Princess Catherine-Amalia. The Princess of Orange is also present.

Here are a few more photos of the King and Princess of Orange today at the Prince Bernhard Barracks in Amersfoort.

Nice to see the princess at 'her' hussars. Her attendance was not announced long in advance but it is very appropriate. And it is good to see her doing well after her fall last week. After a group photo the King stepped away to have a photo of Amalia alone with the hussars.

The princess received a silver brooch which is based on the emblem of the regiment. When asked how her arm was feeling, she said she still had pain but it helped that she was standing. When asked if she would soon starts horseback riding again, she said that unfortunately that was not possible.

Thank you for the additional information!

When asked if she would soon starts horseback riding again, she said that unfortunately that was not possible.

Maybe the questioner should have thought twice about that rather naive question. "Soon" is impossible after such an injury..

Here are some more nice photos and videos:

she seems to be able to take her band of which i guess means she is feeling better? great news.

I give her a lot of credit. She's always very poised.

Question about the king wearing a uniform: I thought I read that once he became king, he would no longer wear a military uniform. Evidently that's not the case. Was this a special exception or something?

He only wears it at military occasions.

I noticed that too. She was probably in alot of pain by the end of the event.

This final bit is rather funny. The whole regiment screaming 'Amalia' after the prompt 'Catharina'... Amalia clearly didn't expect that.

As said in the WA thread, the King went to SAIL Amsterdam today with his mother's boat the Groene Draeck.

Earlier today his collegues from his navy days were on board. It seems that later they were switched as he was accompanied by Pss Mabel -who loves sailing- Css Luana, prince Maurits -patron of SAIL Amsterdam- and two staff members ... while ramming another boat, much to the indignaton of the other skipper.

SAIL is only a few minutes away from my house so I am hearing boat horns today and can see the highest masts from my balcony and some windows. There were some F-35 fighter jets and helicopters flying over rather low, which was a great noise.

Let's hope the King will be joined by his mother and his wife and daughters at one point as well. I assume his vacation is now over as we are at the end of August.

Prince Maurits opened SAIL Amsterdam yesterday and was accompanied by his wife Pss Marilene.

Today, August 21, Beatrix was sailing on her Groene Draeck with Mabel, Claus-Casimir and Luana.
Constantijn, Laurentien and Eloise later joined the sailing day as well:

The mother of Pss Mabel was also on board, as were Pss Carolina of Parma and her son and daughter.

Does Princess Beatrix ever go to Greece with her eldest son and family or does she have a holiday home of her own?

Its nice to see so many of the family together.

She used to have a holiday home in Tuscany

Eight weeks away and now she choses this as her first event, a jetset - nouveau-riche thing. Not surprising of course but puzzling how this is considered a good comeback after being in hiding for so long.

I believe this was the last year, as the grand prix does not receive subsidies it is not profitable to continue for the organizers.

Marengo, in this interview with a Spanish television channel, people were surprised because Máxima said "I am queen of Holland" instead of saying "I am queen of the Netherlands." Is it common for the Dutch to use both terms? And for members of the Royal Family to use their title with a name that isn't the official one? Even Spanish television uses "Netherlands."

Yes, it is rather common - especially when speaking a different language. I was even once told by an immigration officer of a Latin American country that my country ‘los Países Bajos’ didn’t exist; her official system only included ‘Holanda’.

This was the penultimate year. Next year will be the final one.

However, I would qualify it as a jetset event. It is rather popular among people from many different classes of society.

It is common knowledge in The Netherlands that abroad people often do not know 'The Netherlands' and tend to refer to variations of Holland. In Brazil I often saw 'Holanda' on websites where I had to fill in my nationality and not 'Paises Baixos' for example. And people would sometimes be puzzled when referring to the latter.

Within the Netherlands it is not done to refer to 'Holland'. It is like referring to Spain as Castile or the UK as England indeed. For marketing and in English 'Holland' is sometimes used by companies and even by semi-official institutions. At the Olympics there is the Holland Heineken House f.e.

I was even once told by an immigration officer of a Latin American country that my country ‘los Países Bajos’ didn’t exist; her official system only included ‘Holanda’.

I had the same experience, and indeed esp. in South America. Perhaps it is what Máxima learned/used in Argentina? In Dutch and English she never refers to Holland as far as I remember.

Ah, let's hope for the organization they will be able to find sponsors. But it seems impossible.

Although many people may watch and enjoy it, the whole event -esp. where the King and Queen have access to, is flashy and vulgar IMO. And I suppose with the Queen there it is another signal it must be a jetset event, as she seldom does anything else in her free time than jetsetting, as far as we can see.

In June this year royal reporter/journalist Josine Evers of modekoningin etc. was interviewed on television [RTL Late night IIRC]. I remember she was sceptical that we saw photos of the King and Queen having a kapsalon in a snackbar in Rotterdam, saying it seemed too much of a coincidence and she suspected the outing was used as a PR moment. At the time I found it far fetched but now it seems indeed more logical.

---
The King says he regrets the end of the Grand Prix in Zandvoort and calls it 'absolutely one of the most beautiful events we have'. He adds he has an understanding the financial considerations that led to this decision.

10k€ earrings seem like they fit right in, then.

It feels like the issues are only with the King and Queen, though — Amalia is so hypercareful about everything she does (not that this is good, either), Ariane is too good-natured (so far) to be vulgar, and Alexia really doesn’t seem to care about being royal (but not in a problematic way thus far).

It’s doubtful the parents are going to change much at this point, seemingly.
