The Princess of Wales Jewels 2: January 2025 -

If you have answers, please help by responding to the unanswered posts.
They seem to be highly sentimental and the diamond Robinson Pelham earrings were a wedding gift from her parents if my memory serves me correctly?
Yes, and at the same time the Middletons gifted Pippa with similar earrings and James with cuff links.
I thought it a very loving gesture towards all their children.

There’s some information about the brooch in The Daily Mail article which I posted in the fashion thread.
I hope it’s okay to quote the relevant couple of sentences from the feature here.

“ The Princess also met the local jewellers who designed the brooch she wore for the occasion.
James Porter & Son, established in 1858, is based in Glasgow's historic Argyll Arcade and is one of Scotland's oldest jewellers. Simon Porter said they had been asked to design a brooch based on HMS Glasgow's crest.”
Apparently the brooch was funded by two London livery companies.

Here's a little further on the newly gifted brooch
A New Brooch for the Duchess of Rothesay, Sponsor of HMS Glasgow
The Princess also wore Diana's beautiful Cabochon Sapphire drop earrings.

I presume this was a gift from the Navy for naming the ship and being their sponsor and at future events connected she will wear this brooch

Yes it was indeed a gift and was commissioned to James Porter & Son and is made of silver in the shape of a thistle with an image of St Mungo (patron St of Glasgow) in the centre.

For the Garter ceremony today, Catherine has her favourite 5-strings of faux pearls on today.

They seem to be a firm favourite of Catherine's this year.
It's nice to see her wearing necklaces more for Events like this, i only wished she would choose necklaces with real pearls not fake ones. There should be enough of them in the Vaults.

Are you sure they are fake!!

Whilst I would ordinarily support the use of "real" jewels at all times, she clearly seems to like this necklace. And I do not begrudge her wearing something she likes a lot!

Is Princess Charlotte wearing a brooch? Brooches seem to be making a comeback.

While it’s equally possible she could (easily) locate a real version of this necklace somewhere in the vaults, it might be seen as too ostentatious for the current troubled times (even Anne with her mother’s famously real pearls are only three strands), either by Catherine or by others. So this is a good compromise of something she likes, looks great on her, and produces no criticism.

And yet, here we are criticizing her choice…
I very much like authenticity e.g., let her always wear silk or other natural fibers rather than polyester‼️

I think she’s wearing the little horse shoe brooch she wore to QEII’s funeral.

Personally, I do not think the use of real pearls would be considered too ostentatious in these times.

I don’t understand why there would be a fuss over royals wearing already owned, VINTAGE real jewelry to a formal event like this. It's like Catherine's afraid to offend anyone, so cheap knockoff jewelry that anyone can buy is playing it safe.

Let's not forget the previous Princess of Wales often wore costume jewellery too.

I do like the 5-strand necklace on Catherine.

Or perhaps it’s just the way Catherine likes to wear jewellery… Crown Princess Victoria is the same and almost always stays away from ”family jewels” during outhouse engagements…

Personally i rather see nice faux pearl jewellery than no jewellery at all…

Obviously she likes this faux pearl necklace- she has worn many the real family heirlooms before and whilst I may want to see more of these cause we love our jewellery and the big pieces, I do think she mixes it up between real and fake and it works

Perfectly adequate for the event, but completely unremarkable jewellery, IMO!
