Dignitas, she certainly has.She already seems to have more gravitas than her parents combined.
It seems the baptism of a vessel is indeed typically the first solo event of a Dutch prince or princess. So, I can see why they would want to stick to that tradition. I assume the one that Amalia baptized recently had been planned for her for quite some time (probably before the baptism of a ship by Alexia).Eh...sure. Is there some in the books that says a Dutch Princess' first solo event must be the baptism of a ship?
I can think of several other events that Amalia could have done as a first solo event.
Thank you for sharing this information. As a nation with a long history associated with sea, I can understand why baptizing a boat/ship would be considered a tradition for a new royal. It seems the baptism of a vessel is indeed typically the first solo event of a Dutch prince or princess. The below are all first solo events:
Beatrix baptized a ship in 1955 (also in Vlissingen),
Willem-Alexander baptized a plane carrying his name in 1987.
Máxima baptized a ship in 2003
Alexia baptized a ship carrying her name in 2023 (a similar ship carrying Amalia's name was baptized by Máxima, as Amalia was still a minor)
Hopefully they'll be able to enjoy some privacy together. In the podcast 'Royal Tea' royalty journalist Rick Evers [Who discovered the difference of the Dutch translation and English original of Scobie's book about the Sussexes] claims that Amalia has a boyfriend now but he does not reveal anything else, other than that it is not Prince Boris.
The last months several journalists, including Evers, said that with prince Boris there was and is only a friendship. Several of these reporters have hinted strongly that Prince Boris is not romantically interested in the opposite sex. That includes main stream shows such as RTL Boulevard where Jeroen Snel made this claim a month ago or so.
I think it's in bad taste that these journalists make these insinuations about Prince Boris, even if it could be true. But anyway, that's the press we have these days.In the podcast 'Royal Tea' royalty journalist Rick Evers [Who discovered the difference of the Dutch translation and English original of Scobie's book about the Sussexes] claims that Amalia has a boyfriend now but he does not reveal anything else, other than that it is not Prince Boris.

What do you think prince Albert of Monaco's reputation was?Especially as they would likely never say (or hint) that someone is a womanizer who has no interest in a serious or monogamous relationship, for example…
Something that he made by not living discreetly as a wealthy heir and sovereign prince, whereas we are speculating about obscure potential marriage candidates? What do you think prince Albert of Monaco's reputation was?
So we will see if Ariane will also baptize a ship this yearIt seems the baptism of a vessel is indeed typically the first solo event of a Dutch prince or princess. So, I can see why they would want to stick to that tradition. I assume the one that Amalia baptized recently had been planned for her for quite some time (probably before the baptism of a ship by Alexia).
The below are all first solo events:
- Beatrix baptized a submarine in 1955 (also in Vlissingen)
- Margriet baptized a ship carrying her name ('Prinses Margriet) in 1966 [not 100% this was the first ship she baptized but she did baptize a ship as first solo activity - looking for confirmation whether it was this one]
- Willem-Alexander baptized a plane carrying his name ('Prins van Oranje') in 1987 (his second solo event that year was the baptism of a ship).
- Máxima baptized a ship carrying her husband's name ('Prins Willem-Alexander') in 2003
- Alexia baptized a hopper dredger carrying her name ('VOX Alexia') in 2023
- Amalia baptized a combat support ship in 2025
Not necessarily this year. In Alexia'a case the ship carrying her name surely contributrd to hers being only a few months after her 18th birthday. But as a very solo act, yes, that seems very likely. So we will see if Ariane will also baptize a ship this year
The Princess of Orange clearly has a deep affection for the city of Madrid!Wonderful to see her looking so well! Hope the difficulty she is talking about has become less so.
Security was standard for a Crown Princess. It doesn't seem out of the ordinary for Spain, especially in a tourist area. That garden is next to the Royal Palace. A few years ago, King Felipe and the President of Portugal walked across that square and had lunch on a terrace next to the garden, and there were no security problems. There was clearly still a high level of security but she seemed very relaxed and took the time to thank the mayor (?) and pose for pictures.
It is obviously official, with the mayor there, the ambassador and also not even a lady-in-waiting but the Grand Mistress the Countess van Zuylen van Nijevelt herself.Security was standard for a Crown Princess. I believe that security is no justification for doing things as badly as the Dutch Royal House seems to have done, according to some reports. They didn't publicly announce the event, and they made the Madrid City Council withdraw its announcement of the event and say that it was postponed or that it was private, creating a lot of confusion. Today it has been seen that they have invited the Dutch press, which normally covers their activities and strictly adheres to the code... but only a couple of Spanish media and at the last minute.
Maybe Amalia will continue to pay for the tulips (or even upkeep) herself? A few bulbs can’t make much difference in her official grant. And she seems just about as grateful as her great-grandmother for the refuge and protection — perhaps it’s partly where she got the idea. Cities are usually proud of offering hospitality to princesses in duress, so perhaps Madrid wants to keep it.Modekoningin's Josine Evers asked the RVD who paid for the plaquette, and it was Amalia herself - they said it was a private gift. I assume the flowers and plaquette will be there for the season and will be removed? Though I believe they are still sending bulbs to Ottawa, which was initially meant as a thank-you for the hospitality during the war.
