The danger is that Amalia may develop a false sense of security for being outside the Netherlands, which in turn will put her at a greater risk than if she were at home. But maybe she is willing to accept those risks to have a "normal social life".

her father was and is still currently a commercial pilot so it runs in the family

Look at how geert wilders lives ((He is constantly accompanied by a permanent security detail of about six plainclothes police officers, and does not receive visitors unless they are cleared in advance, thoroughly searched, and escorted at all times. He lives in a state-provided safe house which is outfitted to be bulletproof, is heavily guarded by police, and has a panic room. He is driven from his home to his offices in parliament in an armored police vehicle, and wears a bulletproof vest.)) I have faith in her security but it shows how powerfull these groups can be
 
So far, the solution of the Dutch authorities to the problem is putting Amalia behind gates, barricades and bullet-proof glass. She might be safe in NL, but she will not have a life.

That IMO pretty much sums it up.

And I don't think a controversial politician like Geert Wilders can be compared to a neutral and so far uncontroversial figure as Amalia.

Again, the threat by the mafia towards Amalia persists as long as it is tolerated. In fact there is IMO a real reason to expect that threat to increase, because the complacency by the Dutch authorities emboldens such types.
Apeacement doesn't work. Not against dictators nor against criminals.
 
What an incredible beautiful princess she is! Her eyes are magical.

This is definitely not what she wanted but whatever arrangement she might currently be having - this is all due to the safety concerns and restraints that it brings. In the book that was published for her 18th birthday, she clearly explained what she was looking forward to in terms of her life as a student. This included being part of a Dutch student corps - not studying abroad at this phase. Before starting her Bachelor's program she already did a gap year which she spent in various countries.

And yes, she is fluent in Spanish. She grew up bilingual (if not trilingual).

I'm not sure what you are suggesting in your final paragraph. What do you think the Dutch authorities should do? And what exactly are they tolerating?

Their leader (as well as several others) has been behind bars for quite some time and is given his due process - however, that doesn't mean that they no longer pose a thread as there are still other supporting leaders that move around freely and found a haven in the Middle East - and people 'on the ground' elsewhere. The Dutch authorities cannot just put everyone they suspect to be somehow involved behind bars without sufficient evidence (even less so if they are abroad), that would be unlawful/unconstitutional and impossible.

You can harress them. Make constant raids. Isolate the imprisoned persons. Set the tax-man (IRS) on them. Set up visitation zones. Double the punishments for certain crimes.
Basically disrupt business so much for this mafia and their rivals in the Netherlands that it's no longer worth issuing such threats.
Work within EU to put collective pressure on the Emirates. Put public focus on the issue and the persons and the Emirates. Mobilize the public opinion against them.
- When is enough enough? Okay, you put the royals in a golden cage and hope the best. But what's next? - If you arrest/deport one of ours or don't back down on the razzias we will gun down random people in the streets.
Or kill a leading politician. Or threaten the families of leading politicians.

Threatening Amalia is a threat against the Netherlands as a state. It cannot be tolerated. And complacency is tolerance in anything but words.
Criminal activity on such a level is something the Netherlands will have to deal with eventually no matter what. Better now than later.
 
They are being dealt with, but such things take time.
One mistake from the police and procecuters and they will walk free. Nobody wants that!

You can't just do raids just for the intimidation, without any founded reason. And I am quite sure the taxmen are hot on their heels already trying to find anything untowards to add to the charges.

And the sooner the better.
Because in the meantime Amalia cannot enjoy the same kind of freedom, so to speak, in her own country as her royal colleagues: Ingrid, Christian, Elisabeth and I believe even Leonor can in their countries. (The Spanish royals at least used to be under a direct threat.)

When, where, how and on what grounds to conduct raids is matter of changing the legislation, so it's doable.

It looks like she is spending time with Eveline van den Bent, once her nanny, later personal adviser to Máxima and now private secretary to the king and queen.

Thanks for ID-ing Van der Bent. She studied notary law in Leiden and started babysitting when she was still a student - but never left. She was on the boat with the royal family after the inauguration too.

Is it known when these pictures were taken? I am surprised to see her in Madrid the day after christmas already (if the photos were taken today). I thought the family went to Argentina for new year (and christmas?), at least that is what was said in the Argentinian press.

According to the accompanying article, the pictures were taken before Christmas as it states "Y antes de finalizar 2023 y de regresar a Países Bajos para celebrar con la Familia Real holandesa las Navidades, Amalia nos ha regalado una última aparición en Madrid."

So, I assume these pictures were taken before the recent photo shoot.

Marengo, would it be possible that the DRF conceals a truth about Amalia, that she is living and studying in Madrid? Would that be acceptable for the public?
 
Earlier in the thread I said it would be impossible, but I am not so sure anymore. If they are keeping her move silent, they will do it to protect the safety of the princess. They may have appealed to various editors to keep things silent for that reason too. And on the whole the gossip press has been rather cooporative with the RF these last 20 years, accepting the media code (not applicable in this case) and such.

Fact is that even Point de Vue now says she lives in Madrid, and so does the most reliable Flemish royalty journalist Wim Dehandschutter, both more credible sources than the Spanish gossip press alone.

Interestingly there was no interview with the family after the photoshoot, so the questions that were asked were rather limited.

If this is the case indeed, I think it will be acceptable for the public due to the safety aspect.

Thanks! If so I am curious why the notorious Spanish pink press does not speak or make headlines about it, as they seem to have no problem upsetting RH from another country (see the Prince Frederik controversy).

They may not be 100% sure she is there? Or alternatively stories about the Dutch RF do not make much money in Spain for their editors as the interest will be limited.

It is not strange that there are European princes or princesses living or studying in Madrid, they are news if they are photographed on the street or at an event, but otherwise they are not news. If Amalia was photographed like Frederik with a boy who is famous in Spain, like a Bulgarian prince or Genoveva's son, would also be important news.

I believe it could be acceptable that she lives overseas for safety reasons, but it should not be acceptable that the Royal House and the government are not transparent about that.


Furthermore, as other poster have said, the optics of Dutch law enforcement being unable to protect the heir to the throne and the heir's whereabouts having to be kept a secret are the worst possible from an international point of view. Maybe the Dutch people simply don't care though.

True but it would be easy to construct a connection to Leonor (secret friendship of the two heirs to a throne) or uncover the secret of the Dutch government. But maybe it is as Mbruno says, people won't care enough to make this important enough news.
 
Of course there’s public interest…

BUT…enough is known (she’s there at least part of the time, and she’s seldom seen in Amsterdam), that perhaps satisfying everyone’s ‘need to know’ is not important. Amalia’s safety is more important than absolute transparency. IMO
 
News is runnig hot through the German media: Princess Amalia and Isebrand K., the German heir, are no longer an issue.

I thought, this has happened months ago and is news from yesteryear, but...

The paper claims to know this since september. Isebrand is said to have been very much in love, but the trouble with Amalia's security detail made everything what would have been spontaneous impossible.

Plus: Amalia would have to ask the parliament for a wedding conformation, what troubled alledgedly both. A close friend is cited, that Amalia knows, because of her future way and subsequent role as a Queen there is no space for a relationship like this.

The Princess finds it difficult too, to enjoy life, since she is threatened by the so called "Mocro-Mafia", i.e. drug gangsters.
 
Bunte has shown previously not truly to understand how things work. I don't see how the fact that Amalia needs permission to marry would 'trouble' both at this point. Why would parliament not approve of Isebrand? I don't see a reason at all. Of course, Amalia's position as heir to the throne requires any future husband to be willing to work for the Dutch monarchy and not everyone will find that easy but that's a different question than getting parliamentary permission - which will be granted unless there is a very serious issue related to the person himself (Máxima showed that a very serious issue with a close family member, such as your father, in the end is not a hindrance to get permission).

I can see how Amalia's current security arrangements could be a hindrance for any relationship to develop somewhat normally.
 
Vanitatis even writes that it still needs to be confirmed. The only 'evidence' is that they were both at the Duchess of Medinacelli's wedding and walked in together (not looking in love at all) and that Amalia is frequently seen in Madrid, the city Boris moved back to. So, anyone could have come up with this 'news'.
