I have always been fascinated by the photos of the greenhouses in Laeken, as well as by the architecture and history. The complex was built between 1874 and 1895, partly financed by the exploitation of the Congo, accompanied by cruel crimes, on behalf of Leopold II, who had received the Congo as private property in 1884.
Nevertheless, it is well worth seeing. We were there a few years ago, and you have to take advantage of the three weeks when the park is open to visitors.

But the visit was worth it, it is uniquely beautiful! I bought a poster there showing the part of the glasshouses with the exotic trees, and it still hangs in my kitchen today. If you ever have the opportunity to visit this unique ensemble of buildings and plants, you should definitely do so.

The royal household has released new photos of Laeken Castle.
