Princess Birgitta started playing tennis as a child, then fencing and golf followed. She became the Swedish champion in team fencing.

The late Princess would have turned 88 on January 19th!

Princess Birgitta's friend Alexandra Charles confirms to Svensk Damtidning that a memorial tournament in honour of Birgitta will be played on October 24 at the Santa Ponsa Golf Club.
– There are several friends in Mallorca who have spoken to the management at Santa Ponsa Golf to have the competition take place.
There would have been the 30th edition of Princess Birgitta's Golf Tournament this year.

The Royal Cemetery was today first time open this year.

The Royal Cemetery in Hagaparken is an incredibly peaceful and beautiful place (built as a half-island in Lake Brunnsviken) and well worth a visit when it’s open.

It’s just that it’s open so rarely, only Thursdays between May - August at 13:00 - 15:00, so it may be a bit difficult to find time… But if possible, it is well worth a visit.

There is an error at the cross: 1927-2024

Interesting that a cross seems to be her final grave marker… All the other graves there have stones

A true servant of the people, to give glory to her country in such a manner

Princess Birgitta was yesterday honored with a charity gala in Port Adriano in Mallorca.
It was here among the boats by the sea that she had a glass of champagne with her friends. Not far from here was the golf course and her home. Now her loved ones in Mallorca had gathered to remember her.
Her granddaughter Carolina, a jewelry artist, had created new jewelry from the costume jewelry she had inherited from her grandmother.
(..)

Princess Birgitta loved golf and every year the “Trofeo Princesa Birgitta” was played at Golf Santa Ponsa. Yesterday Birgitta's closest friends honored her with playing golf, named the “Gold Day Memorial” cup. Most people kept the same pace that Birgitta used to on the course. It was in their spine. Gillian Bengtsson says that Birgitta was a very fast player and husband Jan tells that if someone played slowly, Birgitta said: “You might as well quit if you’re going to mess up like that”.
In one of her last interviews, Birgitta said that she felt like a 25-year-old in her head, and there were also boys in her thoughts. (..)

Prinsessan Birgitta Memorial Cup will be played yearly from now on. The prize:

Princess Birgitta passed away a year ago.

Santa Ponsa is one of Mallorca's finest golf courses. Birgitta lived there for free for 26 years. The accommodation was a gift from the Nigorra family, who run the Golf Club.
Birgitta's friend Berit Kollhed tells that the Nigorra family supported Birgitta all these years with the accommodation and everything. Their mother started it. Then the children Luis, Miguel and their sister Rocío did the same and they have been a huge support for Birgitta.
Owner Luis Nigorra confirms that Birgitta was allowed to live in an apartment for free for 26 years.
– My parents made the decision that Birgitta would be allowed to live there for free, but I don’t know why. When they passed away, we all thought that she would be allowed to stay there until she died. She had a deal that we respected. She was a great close friend (..)

What a surprise!
