Can we expect the King's sisters' children and other members of the extended Bernadotte family?

A very public programme indeed… A bit surprised but positively surprised to see that they are celebrating their Golden Wedding Anniversary in such an official and public way too.
Yes its really shaping up to be 2 large scale celebrations , I had thought that the Golden Wedding would be a private family affair.

Together in time: 50 years with the Royal Couple
2026 will mark several anniversaries that will be celebrated at Solliden Palace. The Royal Couple will celebrate 50 years of marriage, and H.M. Queen Silvia will thus have been Queen of Sweden for half a century. H.M. King Carl XVI Gustaf will turn 80, and it will also be noted that Solliden Palace will turn 120.
Photo exhibition in the Stone Park
The Stone Park will be filled with the Royal Family's private photos from Solliden in the spring. This year, the Royal Couple will celebrate their golden wedding anniversary, and through the photo exhibition, visitors are invited to take part in their private environment at Solliden.
The anniversary exhibition shows the Royal Couple's time together over five decades, from the first picture together in Borgholm to the most recent picture of the Royal Family. Midsummer celebrations, renovations, camping in the Öland elf and other lovely summer pictures will be displayed in a lush environment.
The anniversary exhibition opens on May 7, 2026 and will remain until September 27, 2026.

Looking very much forward to the 2 big celebrations…

I’m delighted to see that they takes the chance to celebrate both The King’s long life and unique reign, and his long marriage to The Queen and her long contribution to Sweden as Sweden’s longest serving Queen Consort… As Carl Gustaf and Silvia this year becomes 80 and 83 you don’t know how many more chances you will get to celebrate such things…

The King’s 80:th birthday will be concluded with a large-scale gala dinner at the Royal Palace with invited guests from around the world…

The Golden Wedding Anniversary will not be concluded by a gala dinner but with a less formal private supper for the families and invited friends… Though the day will still be exciting with a church service, a quite long journey with the Royal Barge, a grand carriage procession and 2 concerts…

Do you think the gala dinner will be a white-tie event, or black tie with tiaras as in the King's 70th birthday?

I don’t know to be honest. But i noticed that the court are using the phrase ”large-scaled gala dinner” to describe the dinner…

At the 70:th birthday celebrations the court always used the word ”banquet” about the dinner that was held indicating that it was going to be a little less formal…

That indicates to me that the plan likely is a white tie dinner this time…

My guess too. White tie. Last time black tie, but with tiaras if I am not wrong.

Wondering why it was less formell for the 70th birthday then for the 50th and 60th birthdays, both of which had been white tie Gala Dinners

Don't know really, variation perhaps? His 40th was also a black tie affair (without tiaras) taking place at Drottningholm Palace.

Yes tiaras and commemorative medals - but no orders, was worn.

It will no doubt also be celebrations tinged with a bit of sadness for The King and Queen i’m sure as it will be the first time ever that they have celebrated a major milestone with 2 of The King’s sisters being deceased.

The five Haga-siblings was a much loved quintet for a lot of Swedes, that has now with the passage of time become a trio.

I hope Princess Margaretha will have the strength to attend… But she is 91 now, turning 92 this autumn, and lives in UK, so i will totally understand if she doesn’t.

Also Christina is not that young and have been facing health issues in the recent years!

Indeed that is true!

But Christina also lives right across the street from the Royal Palace so she is the one of the siblings with the shortest journey. She doesn’t even have 5 minutes walking until she’s at the palace.

Yes, she is close but am talking about the possibility of the 3 of them getting the chance to attend a celebration of a milestone again!

Sveriges Television (SVT) has been appointed as the "host broadcaster" for the celebration of HM the King's 80th birthday on April 30, 2026.
SVT will broadcast live during the day from the Thanksgiving service in the Royal Chapel, the Armed Forces tribute at the Outer Courtyard, as well as the singers' tribute and the public's congratulations at Norrbro.
