The Duke and Duchess of Sussex and Family, News and Events 10: August 2024 -

If you have answers, please help by responding to the unanswered posts.
In her most recent Instagram story the Duchess of Sussex showed how she surprised some fans during a preview of her show and shared photo of a card and flowers by her husband and children:

The card doesn't like as signed by so small children.... Usual action by Meghan to drum expections in front of her so called cooking show...

I would imagine that 99 people out of 100 who have any sort of show of theirs coming up on TV, whether on a streaming giant or some other entertainment channel, make sure that they drum up expectations for their prospective viewers. That, after all, is the nature of the business.

Has Netflix been involved in the build up by promoting it, or as producer is it left to Meghan.

I don’t know. I’m not in her circle and I doubt anyone else on this forum is, either. And it’s the same I guess with everyone who comes here every couple of days to post and speculate about various royals’ and ex royals’ interests, skills and hobbies.

She could have been doing a lot of creative things behind the scenes at home just for herself. Maybe she just wasn't ready to put it out there publicly again.

I am of the belief that you have to be open to new things, places and people. You never now what idea or connection you are going to make. From what I read the Tig was pretty successful (never read it myself) so its almost as if she's come full circle back to what she really enjoyed doing. Good luck to her.

So heres a review and article re the new show. Its from the Guardian who aren’t Royalty lovers. I think they reach the conclusion some of us had reached on here after the trailer. Theres is nothing wrong with the show, apart from overuse of platitudes, but its not groundbreaking and its a crowded market.

I suppose they are been snidey but it made me chuckle

What is telling is that The Guardian, although anti-monarchy, have always been very pro MM. The Marina Hyde article was particularly good I thought. There's quite a few funny reviews knocking around the net, and many are from sources that can be considered neutral.

If that is your thing.
I could never live in a tiny house.
I think the people who like Meghan are going to like her show. Speaking for myself during covid lockdown I used to love watching these types of shows for escape. I will probably watch her show and think oh I'm going to make that just like I am going to make all those cakes I see on the Great British Baking show(and I bought some of those specialty cake pans ) I think there is a lot of pressure for this to succeed.

The reviews so far do not inspire a lot of confidence that the show will land with the general public. I think a lot of the concerns people raised about the challenges it would face seem to be discussed in reviews, namely that there isn’t a huge audience of people with the time and money for this type of lavish entertaining, especially in the Millennial and Gen Z groups and that Meghan herself is not interesting enough as a host to provide a compelling reason to watch and to buy her products.

My prediction is that the show will get a short blip of interest and may go into Netflix’s top 10 for a short period of time, but that it will not be a sustained interest that supports a successful product line.

Then again, I have certainly been wrong before

Is there anything big on streaming right now? I haven't had much time to follow because I have been too busy, but it seems that we are in between seasons of most high-rated shows. So Meghan may benefit from lack of major competition.

I just think Meghan herself is not interesting enough to attract even the audience that would normally tune in to that kind of programming. Most of the initial bump in ratings will come from Meghan's diehard fans, but that can only go so far.

I think criticism is going to be a lot harsher for her (whether deserved or not) than for other similar shows.

Maybe because she tried to build up to something and the results for some viewers do not match the hype.
I agree with that. This has been a lot of build up- the idea that this has been worked on for years, that this is Meghan’s truest passion and where her heart lies, etc. That’s a lot of expectations to put on a show about sprinkling edible flowers onto eggs and arranging party bags and fruit trays.

Some of it is also that it’s quite unusual to launch a lifestyle brand based on a show before the show aired. It’s had a lot of investment in it assuming the show will be a smash hit and will make consumers want to purchase related products.

I am not sure what the related products are, other than an apron and a cooking pot. She told you not to buy piping products just cut a hole in a plastic bag.

I watched some of the show this morning to see what it's like. There's nothing wrong with it - it's pretty and stylish and reasonably well made - but there is nothing ground-breaking going on either. I don't need a TV personality to tell me how to make a rainbow out of fruit, or that I should use an air-pump to blow up balloons. But maybe some people do, and not every show is made for me.

I would describe it as 'anodyne', which is also how I described Pippa's party book. It's bland and inoffensive daytime TV.

The “flower sprinkles” seem to be among the first.

I think people will check out the show out of curiosity, and perhaps cause a blip in the ratings.
But after that, interest will flag, and the show will gradually disappear.
After 5 minutes I started to ff then popped in and out until the end. I will not trouble with episode 2 .
What is really disappointing is that Meghan puts in little digs about the past, doesn’t say RF or names but it is obvious what she is getting at.
I can see why it was made clear it was lifestyle rather than a cooking show.
