The Duke and Duchess of Sussex and Family, News and Events 10: August 2024 -

I'm more concerned about the passage in which one of their friend implied that Meghan is "re-parenting" Harry. In what sense? Is Harry one of those adults regressed to a childhood age or what? I can't imagine such dynamics in a married couple, especially when they already have children.

On IMDB their docu series has a rating of 5,1/10. I don’t know if it could be called a success. If by success we speak about financial revenue than yes, it might be considered as such. Same for Spare.
Yes they appeared to be successful but once they moved away from washing the familys dirty linen in public what did they achieve, not much.

Harry not having made any friends in 5 years but solely relying on his love for Meghan is quite concerning as well.
I think he probably hasn't met people he has anything in common with. His crew were the shooting kind,.floppy hair, mega rich and a bit thick. California isn't really the state for him.to meet like minded. I don't want to.disparage, but reputation wise there more suited states.

from the Vanity Fair article:

Meghan tells Kaling, “I never had anyone to sit with at lunch. I was always a little bit of a loner and really shy and didn’t know where I fit in. And, and so I just became, I was like, okay, well, then I’ll become the president of the multicultural club and the president of sophomore class and the president of this and French club. And by doing that, I had meetings at lunchtime. So I didn’t have to worry about who I would sit with or what I would do because I was always so busy.”

It may indeed be true that Meghan was shy and a bit of a loner in high school. However, she was always with her friend Ninaki Priddy whom she’d known since the age of 2 - so she wasn’t friendless. Also, being president of this and that school clubs - I don’t buy all of that. My guess would be that she got involved in those things and maybe was president of one of them, but you don’t get elected as “President of the sophomore class” if you don’t have anyone to sit with at lunch….
IMHO, this whole quote is an example of the classic “exaggeration “ from Meghan - and I’m being kind.

There are over 18 million people in the Los Angeles metropolitan area. Out of 18 million people, I'm sure that Harry could have found someone with whom he'd got things in common, if he'd wanted to. Maybe he's never wanted to?

But isn't he very close with Nacho Figueras? Or were they friends from before he left UK? I don't know exactly where Nacho lives, whether it's LA or not.

Exactly

They’ve known each other for many years. Way before he met Meghan.

Since the raspberry jam and dog biscuit happening we know he’s mainly based in NY.

Here is one quote from the piece that closely mirrors experiences we have previously heard about with Meghan’s UK staff:

“The source who worked in media projects says Meghan’s own relationships with employees tended to follow a familiar pattern. She would be warm and effusive at the beginning, engendering an atmosphere of professional camaraderie. When something went poorly, often due to Meghan and Harry’s own demands—such as a teaser for Archetypes being released five months before the show premiered and before there was any tape to promote—Meghan would become cold and withholding toward the person she perceived to be responsible.
I expect its down to my British reserve but I always wary of the over enthusiastic. Its lovely with all the positive vibes stuff until it isn’t. Meghan is not the only one with these kind of traits but they will get reported on time and again. Especially if she keeps peddling the “finding joy” and “be kind” woo woo stuff. They are a sitting target for journalists to sell stories.

Very true, and that is exactly what has happened.

It can’t be easy to live in one place your entire life and then pick up and relocate to a place where you have no connections beyond your significant other. I would guess most people in their thirties who make such a move wind up making most of their new friends through work. It doesn’t sound like Harry is working on a consistent basis, at least not with the same people for any length of time.

He and Meghan also have such a focus on trust and personal security issues (some well founded, some not so much, IMO) that it’s hard to see how they’d get past the superficial acquaintance stage to real friendship with anyone new they met.

Personally I'm loving it. Harry tried to humiliate and infantilize Charles in Spare by talking about Charles attachment to his teddy bear. Now we have Harry described in the most babied way ever. With Meghan reparenting him. Him not having any interests besides playing polo. Him being bewildered about the concept of having a job. Asking for hot cocoa at business meetings. Thinking a sociopaths podcast would be a great idea where he asked world leaders how they became sociopaths. Him not understanding the concept of a monarchy. Basically saying the question of 2+2 would be a whole afternoon project for him.

Also his attack on his family in Spare saying he is the only member of the entire BRF that ever married for love. Then we find out Meghan's team was shopping around a post-Harry divorce book and how much that would be worth. lol

As ever with Harry, every accusation ends up being a self-confession.

I always thought, there is this silent agreement between the VIPs and the paparazzi in LA, that you give them some and then they leave you alone.

Otherwise there would be a world scandal every week! All these strange stars...

And just because there are rumours, that does mean nothing! We surely do not know, what Prince Harry and the Duchess are doing in private.

But Harry doesn’t like these agreements, that was one of his complaints .

The trial was due to start at 10:30 this morning, but Harry's lawyer asked for it to be delayed until 11:30, and then asked for a further delay.

Mr Justice Fancourt has allowed the trial to be adjourned until 14;00 GMT.

“I am a little concerned about the timetable overall,” he says. “On the other hand an hour or two in the context of eight weeks is not significant.

“If the parties can assure me that time will be beneficial and will produce some outcome, then I am willing to provide some further time - but it has to be the last adjournment.”

Sounds as if the judge is pretty fed up already!

I wonder if they are trying to negotiate a settlement.
NPR (National Public Radio), a highly respected news organization has reported that there has been a "massive offer" from Murdoch's side. For context, Murdoch's companies has paid over USD 1.5 Billion to over 1,300 people to settle hacking claims. Yes, that's "Billion".

The UK law is very unfavourable to people who turn down settlement offers b/c they are liable to pay the defendant's legal fees if they don't win a judgement larger than the offer. This is why Hugh Grant settled his lawsuit. Despite being a successful actor, Hugh Grant (and Sienna Miller) stated he simply can not afford to take that risk.

Which makes it an average of about 1 150 000 per person. Not what Harry expects.

Murdoch's News Corp offers Prince Harry settlement to resolve years-long lawsuit

LONDON — Rupert Murdoch's British publishing arm has made a substantial settlement offer to Prince Harry and a senior lawmaker to avoid a lengthy trial over whether company executives had engaged in a coverup of illegal actions at his tabloids here.
[...]
The presiding judge, Justice Timothy Fancourt, pressured the parties to decide on the offer Tuesday, saying he expected the trial to begin that afternoon. He rebuked one of Murdoch's attorneys for asking to be heard in closed chambers to make his case privately.

"In this of all cases, I'm not going to start having secret hearings," the judge said.

Harry and [lawmaker, former member of the House of Commons Tom] Watson have insisted on the need for acknowledgements of wrongdoing to settle their claims.

The size of damages is far smaller in British civil cases and settlements than in the U.S. Yet going through with this trial carries a financial risk for Harry and Watson: under British law, they can be forced to pay the defendant's legal costs if they reject a settlement offer that exceeds the amount of the judgment awarded at trial.

Apparently, according to this article, the Murdoch Press have offered Harry’s lawyersa substantial deal to avoid a lengthy trial and there have been quite intense negotiations over the last weeks. It depends I suppose if Harry wants to have his day in court against the Murdoch Press.

Here in the USA one of the many branches of a lawyer's job opportunities is being a Mediator on a civil case before it goes to trial. Reason being any case that occupies Court time and staffing needs is paid by taxpayers and could run from thousands to millions of dollars depending on the case.

Lawyers that work as Mediators are used to convince both sides to come to terms prior the trial. But both sides need to settle differences by cooling off their hot tempers and accept a solution that pleases both, so taxpayers are not the ones that end up footing the bill. In many cases a side will realize how time consuming it would be to take a case to court, lose it and the so-called money won by the other party might never be given to them.

In this case, I see the problem starts and ends with Harry and his advisors who want to take this to court, who want to have UK taxpayers pay for the court process and Court employees' salaries and the electric bill used during the weeks or months of litigation. As long as the UK pays the bills, Harry wants his day in court.

And let's not bring up yet again Harry wants UK taxpayers paid police officer to escort him around whenever he visits. Even if he offered to pay them, government employees are not his private army.

I do hope he has lawyers that can reason with him, and his stubbornness and inability to read the room beyond his man-child tantrums and take what is offered by the tabloids with an agreement also he will be left alone from here on.

As lawyers say to stubborn clients here in the USA, take the deal because if you lose in court you'll pay the bill!

Well, the Murdoch Press have been the ones offering a deal apparently, if this article is true, not the other way round.

So maybe that organisation has not been eager to have a months’ long trial either, with perhaps all sorts of revelations to come out that may not reflect well on them. Harry has been adamant that he wants accountability from the Sun and others.
