The Duke and Duchess of Sussex and Family, News and Events 10: August 2024 -

My understanding is that certain rules are the rules due to tradition, which suggest to me that a rule is a rule until it isn't. Meghan is not alone, a few months ago when the woman born Catherine Middleton issued a statement, it began, "A message from Catherine, The Princess of Wales". I know including "The" has meaning as well. Anyhoo, I think modern female royals do not want their given names to be "officially" erased.

She cannot uses HRH and be known as HRH The Duchess of Sussex. And from a business perspective, using her name personifies her business/company
I think they meant she should have used Meghan, The Duchess of Sussex rather than Meghan, Duchess of Sussex.

It’s the kind of thing that most people wouldn’t notice and it’s entirely possible Meghan herself is unaware of the difference. (It’s also possible someone else is going to manage her account and that person doesn’t know.)

It's nice to see Meghan continue to focus on her own endeavors rather than tying herself to the working BRF as she has done for over two years now. I hope her Instagram is a success.

We certainly do hope Meghan does indeed focus on her endeavours going forward, its not something she has done for a fair few years now. Perhaps the social media account is a step towards that.

All she did was write a number in the sand all by herself. Let’s not get too excited about her new endeavours. All I took from it was , that it was her on her own , not them as a couple or a family. That is as deep and meaningful as it got I am afraid. Let us see how long it takes for step 2.

She styled herself as a divorcee. [...]

Otherwise her ignorance on titles isn't cute. Especially since she and Harry insisted on titles for their kids, and were extremely irked they had to wait until QE's death (hence moaning about waiting for titles on Oprah).
It is somewhat surprising because , so far., Meghan had styled herself in the USA as "Meghan, The Duchess of Sussex", which suggests to me that she is mindful of the divorcee style.

I don't think, however, that this is a subtle message that she is seeking a divorce. Most likely she hired someone to handle her social media accounts and that person was not knowledgeable of British titles and styles.

I thought the inclusion or non inclusion of 'THE' was a bit of a game as we know she is a player I would not put it past her to set the rumour mill herself. Having said that Ingrid Sewards input is that is was a private event on the beach that Harry filmed, which she thought was very nice. No Ingrid, if everybody is being told that Harry filmed it then it isn't a private event. So as I say game playing going on.
It is a pity she didn't put the launch on hold for a few days considering events in New Orleans, but I do not know how these things work, maybe it was already in motion and could not be stopped.

And even for that she needed more than one take:

I suppose Meghan doesn't see the difference between "Meghan, The Duchess of Sussex" and "Meghan, Duchess of Sussex".... As we know the titles are not important to her because what is important to her is to be a 'mother". Or something like this was stated in their Netflix series... Can we believe her? ;)

As I said in a previous reply, Meghan has used the style "Meghan, The Duchess of Sussex" several times since she moved back to California, so I am pretty sure she is mindful of the difference. I don't know for sure if she used "Meghan, Duchess of Sussex", without the article, before in the US, but I don't recall it.

I still think it was probably a mistake by an assistant who is in charge of her social media accounts. If it were intentional, it would be meaningful though.

I'm guessing that it was set to be released on a certain date and time. The New Orleans attack had already occurred and was a major news story across the U.S.

Here's the post about Meghan's new Netflix project (The link to the previous post is not available):

I have to say, the trailer is probably the most thoughtfully put together work I’ve seen from Meghan’s post-Royal life and it also looks entirely harmless. Good luck to her on this project.

It looks good indeed and it is nice that it is finally out, after we have heard so much talk about it. It makes an interesting evolution, from presenting herself as a feminist to a so-called trad wife in the span of a few years. Good luck to her, let’s hope it will be a success.

The Princess of Wales isn’t usually referred to like this in anything official. Not sure why she was this time but it appears to be a one off or at least very rare.

Correct (by custom or convention) use of titles is surely a matter of politeness & respect for the culture they originate from. Some peers & their wives use/have used their Christian/forename with the peerage's territorial designation ie Deborah Devonshire, Patrick Litchfield etc. That sounds a lot less pretentious than the alternative. To British ears at least.

I think Meghan Sussex would sound rather good actually.

I can’t wait to watch. It looks similar to other shows but I am still interested.

Her show title is interesting.

I’m not interested in cooking shows; so, this is an easy pass for me.

We’ll see how it does. It’s hard to picture this cooking show being a massive hit, but who knows.

I wonder what the differentiator will be for this show, which is landing in a very crowded field. For all the media attention she gets, Meghan doesn't really offer anything that would make someone watch this versus all the others.

I'm guessing that a lot of people will be watching the first few episodes just for the curiosity factor, but after that the viewership will depend on the quality or originality of the show. The publicity footage looks good, so it would be nice if Meghan has found her niche.

I think you're right, although unless the first episode is really special, I'm not sure how many more episodes viewers will watch. On the podcast and the other Netflix shows, viewership dropped pretty fast.

I imagine she'll have some immediate fans from those who used to follow her on the Tig.

It is entirely possible that it was a mistake by an assistant. But if it is indeed so, it just shows the lack of attention to detail in the Sussex organisation.

Meghan has announced her Netflix series, “With Love, Meghan”. Launching January 15th!

Well, the concept of a cooking show is not really an innovation. […]

But we will see: Cooking with Michelle Obama or Melania Trump or Queen Camilla... I would watch that! Especially since I have the suspicion, none of them made even scambled eggs since a very long time...

Tom Parker Bowles says that his mother’s scrambled eggs are amazing.

Anyway. I wish her well. Who wouldn’t. We want them to have success and to move on with their lives.

The preview reminded me of Emma, Marchioness of Bath. She has a lifestyle brand that includes jams and kitchenware. She also has a cooking show on YouTube.

There are so many celeb cooking shows that come and go, so it will be interesting to see what Meghan does to stand out and whether she can sustain it.

It looks a pretty slick trailer, we will see if it keeps up to the promise. Is it a Meghan chatting with the chef while he cooks type of show. I thought she would be cooking and showing her recipes. She has a strong fan base who will watch and pick up any merchandise so it might do o.k. Was the intention to link the show to ARO website to purchase goods etc.

This really interesting , I live in the UK I have heard of Emma, of Longleat but I had never heard of the cooking show , It is not something that I would actively seek out but I will look at the on line shop now that it has been drawn to my attention. You really need to ramp up the interest and the views, then hopefully the viewing figures go up , and any related sales.

Hoping for the best for Meghan with the new show. She’s always been interested in food and its preparation and people may well tune in at first just to see what it all consists of. So I’m wishing her success!
