So glad to see The Duke being able to celebrate his round birthday together with near and dear people (and seemingly enjoying it) after the sad weeks he has had.

Yes indeed. What a fine old man and asset to the BRF he has been. And reaching 90 is an achievement in itself.

The dedicated and stoical Duke of Kent attended the funeral of the late Field Marshall Lord Guthrie today at Westminster Cathedral :

I've always been impressed at how over the years the Duke of Kent has always been a hard worker, first on behalf of HLM and now of course for King Charles.

Not all these occasions have been recognised in the Court Circular and so they mostly remain unknown to and unacknowledged by the public - even quite seasoned royal-watchers. An example of this was at the Memorial Service for the late Sir Stirling Moss that was held last year in Westminster Abbey and which I was privileged to attend. I was surprised to see both the Duke and Prince Michael appear - both royal gentlemen were using walking sticks, which also made quite an impression on me as I had not noticed this previously. Princess Alexandra, sadly too frail now to do much pubic work, was also a similar presence i.e. turning up at events that often went unrecorded in the Court Circular sometimes accompanied by her husband Sir Angus Ogilvy - who was of course not part of the official working royal family. I used to get rather annoyed with the then Prince Charles for his views on a slimmed-down monarchy because I genuinely do believe that he had/has no idea of the work done by the so-called minor royals and how it is appreciated by so many subjects who don't all get invited to the grander official state occasions. I hope the Duke of Kent is with us for many more years to come; he is clearly frail and must be missing his wife tremendously.

[As a side-thought, the Prince's /King's wish for a 'slimmed down monarchy' is a classic example of the old adage 'Be careful what you wish for'']

Lord Guthrie like the late duchess of Kent was a Roman Catholic convert and was predeceased by his wife Catherine in 2022.

The concert, too, was held and organized by the Polish Hearth Club. They give birthday parties to the Duke every year and they are attended regularly by the Polish Ambassador. The Poles of London do a very good job in honouring the Kents. This relationship goes back to the 1930s and George and Marina.

On November 3 the Duke of Kent as President of the Royal National Lifeboat Institution visited Appledore Lifeboat Station to commemorate the Station's 200th anniversary:
