I had a hunch that this was the week where the wider BRF would be in Scotland together. I understand that British schools will be returning in early September, so this is a good time for a summer visit to Scotland.

It seems Edward and Sophie alone with Anne & Tim are currently with the King & Queen in Scotland.

Dame Joanna Lumley and Baroness Helena Kennedy also accompanied the king and Queen to the Sunday Church Service yesterday at Crathie Kirk.
I was surprised to see Sir Keir Starmer in attendance at Church.

I am interested to know why you were surprised by the prime minister going to church. It is usual for the visiting prime minister to join the monarch at church.

Sir Keir is an atheist which might be why An Ard Ri was surprised at him appearing at church.
It seems to me he is just doing what is expected of him and being a good house guest by fitting in with what is the norm for the King and his family on a Sunday. I see it as no more surprising than his predecessor Rishi Sunak attending a Christian church on a Sunday with the RF when he visited Balmoral, even though he was a practising Hindu.
The Church of Scotland is known to welcome people of all faiths and those with none to attend their services.

Thank you, I was not aware, as you say regardless of faith or none, the PM of the day has always attended church on the Balmoral weekend.

It has been suggested in the media that the Prince of Wales was spotted at Aberdeen airport earlier this week, after the day in Stockport. He is meant to be spending a few days with the King. This father - son time time spent together at the end of September appears to be becoming an annual event now.

What a lovely time of the year to spend at Balmoral with the change of seasons and weather!

I feel like we saw W&C at Balmoral at church with C&C around this time last year so maybe Catherine will travel up for the weekend.

Either way, nice for father and son to spend some time together.

Probably not the thread to discuss it, but that might well be true. However Liverpool to Aberdeen is tricky. By train its 5and1.2 hrs+ with 3 connections and there are no direct flights.

He would have been better flying back down to Windsor with Catherine then flying on a scheduled flight from Heathrow to Aberdeen - British Airways alone have at least 7 direct flights on a Tuesday. Yes it might seem counter intuitive flying down from about midway to Aberdeen but if Catherine was flying down with the staff anyway they may as well have done so on together (I wonder if she too took a private or government jet as it was an official duty) then flown scheduled from the UK's busiest airport which is 30mins from their Windsor home.

All of this just makes me think how remote Balmoral must have been in days gone by Victoria and Albert first purchased it and even in the years after before regular scheduled flights were a thing.

William cannot keep travelling on private jets if he wants people to take his Earth Shot prize seriously, it's ridiculous.
I would presume the heir apparent travels as directed by his security.

In a republic the equivalent would be a vice-president. How do republics handle the travel of their second most important vip?

Does the US VP fly commerical?

Lord Salisbury said Balmoral was like Siberia.

I'm not sure if he was referring to the climate or the fact that it was so remote & took seemingly forever to get there!

With the difference that most vice-presidents don’t become president (unless a tragedy takes place or they run for president at a later election) while the heir apparent is expected to end up as monarch - unless a tragedy takes place.

I do remember reading that after the events of Sep 11, Charles was required by his security team to stop taking commercial flights. I do not know if William follows a similar edict.

But there is a broader point I want to make. Just because William flies by private planes from time to time, does not mean that it is incongruent with campaigning to help limit environmental damage. Each of us leaves a carbon footprint. Albeit from what we eat, how we eat or temperate control our homes, to how we travel. Some of it we can manage, some we cannot. That we try and minimise that damage is the relevant point IMO. And what William is trying to do through Earthshot is to inspire innovation to manage environmental damage. Very credible, IMO!

Just because we all leave a carbon footprint doesn't mean some people don't leave much larger ones. Everyone can make changes to reduce it. Charles and William have both flown commercial.

The earth shot is not just about inspiring inovation but even the small changes. As its really his only major project he supports, he could do a better job leading by some example.

Yes some private travel can't be avoided. A weekend in Scotland can be.

I’d put homewards on the same size range of a project as earthshot.
