The Royal Court:
"In the spring greenery, the Crown Princess and Prince Daniel yesterday met the Icelandic presidential couple for a walk on Royal Djurgården.
The state visit from the Icelandic presidential couple officially begins today, but already yesterday @hallatomas and Mr. Björn Skúlason met the Crown Princess and Prince Daniel for a walk in the Princess Estelle Sculpture Park and a tour of Prince Eugen's Waldemarsudde."

What a great idea, wonderful to see Victoria and Daniel with the presidential couple watching the sculptures and visiting Prince Eugen's Waldemarsudde. Sara Sandström, executive director of the Princess Estelle Sculpture Park, was with them too.

This is how the Icelandic state visit is secured: “Macbeth every time”
850 soldiers. 70 horses.
A king, a president, a state visit.
When Sweden welcomes Iceland, nothing can be left to chance.
– It’s Macbeth every time, says Lieutenant Colonel Richard Beck-Friis.
King Carl Gustaf, Queen Silvia, Icelandic President Halla Tómasdóttir, and her husband Björn Skúlason will travel by horse and carriage from the Royal Stables to the palace via Kungsträdgården. A distance of approximately 1,500 meters, which will be lined with over 850 soldiers, spread out at precise intervals between the white gaiters.

Both the Presidential couples in Scandinavia are very charmning and educated and seems a pleassure to spend time with.

I do think they could have made the "ladies program" on day one for Mr. Skulasson a bit more to his backround and education, he has an interesting education and backround from the cullinary world, diettary supplements from fish and investment banking.

Nice to see the presidential couple, just like in Denmark and Norway, arriving discreetly and a bit early, to have some downtime before the state visit starts.

The icelandic presidential couple seems to be a very nice, sociable and down to earth couple… I’m sure they got along very well with Victoria and Daniel.

Maybe Mr. Skúlason hasn't presented any wishes for his program?

It's interesting, that the Royal Court writes that princess Madeleine and Mr. Christopher O'Neill were also welcoming the presidential couple at the Victoria Salon. They are not at the group photos released so far.
The Royal Court tells also that the King and Queen gave a private lunch for President Tómasdóttir and Mr. Björn Skúlason in Princess Sibylla's apartment. The Crown Princess Couple, Prince Carl Philip, Princess Madeleine and Mr. Christopher O'Neill also attended the lunch.

There is something especially grand with the mounted carriage processions from the Royal Stables to the Royal Palace that cannot be matched by cars !

There was talk for many years to discontinue with horses in the Royal Stables. Luckily it has not become the case.

I do hope that never happens ,the use of horse and carriages really adds to the State Visit to a Monarchy!

Since the setting up of the non-profit association ”Beridna Högvakten” (Mounted Royal Guard) there has been no talk about of that anymore.

On this page can be read

”The association was formed in 1985 with the aim of preserving the horses in the Swedish state ceremony. The association finances the purchase and training of the 100 horses required for the operation and accounts for half of the direct costs (feed and more) for the operation of the stable at the Cavalry Barracks. It is no longer the state that pays the horses, but the association and its members. The ridden guard parade is an important symbol for Sweden and plays an important role as part of the Swedish cultural heritage during state visits, national day celebrations and royal weddings. Without this association and its members, this long-standing tradition would disappear”.

That's impressive that private citizens are enthusiastic enough to spend their own money to continue this tradition!

[...] It's interesting, that the Royal Court writes that princess Madeleine and Mr. Christopher O'Neill were also welcoming the presidential couple at the Victoria Salon. They are not at the group photos released so far.

On the one hand, there have been occasions when King Carl XVI Gustaf accorded preferential treatment to his son over his younger daughter, and sometimes even over his heiress.

On the other hand, there have also been occasions when Princess Madeleine and/or Christopher O’Neill failed to turn up to events in Sweden after originally agreeing to attend.

Hopefully neither is happening this time, and I am not rushing to judgment, but past history can make one wonder.

If there is a different thread which this comment would be better suited for, please let me know.

Now the Royal Court has changed the text at its article and according to it only Victoria, Daniel and Carl Philip welcomed the presidential couple. Madeleine and Chris attended only the private lunch according to the text, so they couldn't be at the official group photo.

Victoria looks wonderful in her Frida Jonsvens gown which she first wore at Ingrid Alexandra's 18th birthday party.

No, it is the Icelandic Minister for Foreign Affairs, Thorgerdur Katrín Gunnarsdóttir.

Major general Peder Ohlsson, the Chief of H.M. The King's Military Staff, looks good!

Thank you for all the links!
I just love President of Iceland! I love her charisma and her joie de vivre. I also really like how caring the First Man is in supporting Queen Silvia. You can tell she feels quite comfortable with him!

Maybe Mr. Skúlason hasn't presented any wishes for his program?
That might be, but as an host one can take it into consideration. Queen Silvias spouses program is IMO very traditional and stuck in the 90s. Im sure it will be more modern when it is Victoria and Daniel who are in charge. And btw Silvia looks (understandable) tired/worn, she could have left the program to Daniel/Victoria like Margrethe did and Harald does. The first gentlemen played professional soccer and there is much that Daniel forinstance could have shown him.

The president is absolutly lovely. Rarely seen the King smiling so much. She is well dressed also, very elegant and know what suits her and her posistion.

Everyone looks beautiful and stylish at the gala, beautiful hair and jewels and Madeleine really made the best of the difficult ruby tiara, never looked better.

Yes, the President seems very joyful and friendly person. It was nice to see her and her husband with Victoria and Daniel walking at Princess Estelle Sculpture Park and visit Prince Eugen's Waldemarsudde. They met at the 25th anniversary of the Nordic Embassy complex in Berlin last October.

Rosersberg Palace is one of the lovliest but probably also least known of the Swedish Royal Palaces.

A perfect trip during a warm summer day !

Nowdays parts of the palace is also a hotel and conference place.

Rosersberg Palace is one of the lovliest but probably also least known of the Swedish Royal Palaces.

It would be nice to see more events in it!

The Royal Court tells about the last day that the presidential couple, the King and Queen and the Crown Princess couple were given a tour of Rosersberg Palace today.

The best part of the state visit was getting to go with Queen Silvia to Silviahemmet, says Iceland's first husband Björn Skúlason.
- Seeing what a pioneer the Queen is was one of the highlights of the trip for me. Especially that she used the experiences she herself had with her mother, and used these to revolutionize dementia care.
Skúlason himself is a patron of the Icelandic Alzheimer's Association, and says that the visit was a completely unique experience that means a lot to him.
- And that she herself was there, it was absolutely incredible, he says.

One of the guests at the state dinner was Icelandic footballer Arnór Ingvi Traustason, who plays in IFK Norrköping.
He told to Aftonbladet's Sportbladet:
– When I got the letter and the invitation, I said to my wife: “This is a joke”. I didn’t believe it at all. But then we saw that we were actually on the list. It was an honor to experience it. It was incredibly fun. An experience. Great to greet the King and Queen. I will remember this for a long time. I said “Your Majesty” to the King. I learned it in the queue on the way to meet him. I had to imitate the others, because I am not used to such situations.
He felt that the other guests probably appreciated his company, it was probably fun to talk about football. However, there was one thing he wasn't entirely happy with:
– The food was good, but I had to eat more at the hotel a little later. The portions were too small.
