State Visit from Iceland to Denmark: October 8-9, 2024

Nope, she did not curtsey, just made a (very) slight bow to Frederik.

I was referring to when she arrived in Denmark by boat/ship where she curtseyed to the King and Queen

How lovely that Princess Benedikte is also present. What order is she wearing? A lower Icelandic order?

Yes, she is wearing the Order of the Falcon, but the sash is worn incorrectly

So, it's the same as Frederik and Mary but incorrectly worn...

Just looked it up on Wikipedia and the order was issued by royal decree in 1921 by Benedikte's grandfather King Christian X - who was also king of Iceland until 17 June 1944 (1 1/2 months after Benedikte was born!).

It needs to be worn over the left shoulder (see Frederik and Mary) - just like the Order of the Elephant.

This may be an odd comment , but I cannot recall any entrance to an evening affair where , even before Frederick became King , he and Mary entered arm in arm . Even on her first State dinner before their wedding they processed side by side , not actually touching . It was just something that struck me about their entrance to the Icelandic Dinner .

A big for the King. Always nice to see the special connection with Greenland.

Today the President of Iceland spoke on meeting Queen Magrethe
"- I was very pleasantly surprised! She is a great female role model for me, said Halla Tómasdóttir, who also described the meeting as a highlight of the state visit, but she quickly added that everything had been great.
- It has honestly been like an adventure for me to be here, said the Icelandic president with a huge smile."

A nice BT video of the gala dinner.

Notice the persons standing behind the Regent Couple and the Icelandic First Couple. They are all-round servants if you like to the DRF. Usually with a military background and often applying for a position at the court after completing conscription. The women in the red tunic was IIRC a conscript in the Guards Hussars.
She and the men, notice that she can opt for a skirt, all wear the gala uniform on the occasion. Red tunic = løber = runner = junior servant. Green tunic = jæger = hunter = senior servant.

This morning, October 10, the farewell meeting took place at Christian VII's Palace, Amalienborg.

As per tradition President Halla Tómasdóttir and husband Björn Skúlason signed a window pane.

The royal couple have chosen to continue a very special tradition, which goes back more than 160 years in the Royal House. When guests, if they are of princely rank or heads of state, leave on a state visit or official visit, they sign a window pane🪟🖋️So when Her Excellency Iceland's President Halla Tómasdóttir and spouse Mr. Björn Skúlason said goodbye to Their Majesties the King and Queen this morning, the Presidential couple signed a window. From now on, the pane will hang in one of the royal castles as a memory of the Presidential couple's state visit to Denmark 🇮🇸

And here is a video from the last event of the state visit. What a lovely tradition

the first of many to come Im sure

Love to see this tradition continue! A unique and wonderful physical reminder of all the state visits over the years! I don't believe something like this is done with any other RF. So, this is a very unique tradition for the DRF - Love it!

A couple of things.
During the return-dinner (I think) King Frederik was to sign the guest book and as he was to sit at the table he accidentally knocked a photo depicting a woman, that was standing on the table. King Frederik exclaimed: "She fell for me." - To the general amusement of everybody present. - Who doesn't like a dad-joke?

Rhetorics were not impressed by King Frederik's official speech at the gala dinner.
Not that there was anything wrong with the speech as such. It said what should be said at such an occasion. Nor was the delivery bad, he stuttered a few times, but nothing serious. The speech was simply dull and boring - and it did not suit King Frederik. King Frederik has his style, his own delivery, his own choice of words and expressions - and this was not his style.
So it is encouraged that his speech-writer (I actually don't think he has any) learn to adapt to King Frederik's style as any god speech writer should.
And as most of the speech no doubt was written by someone in the Foreign Ministry, that's where the ape is right now. (*)

(*) DK idiom. To get the ape is to get the blame. And if the ape sits on your shoulder, you get the full blame. Deserved or otherwise.

I would assume that Frederik is allowed to adapt speeches, so maybe he didn't take sufficient time to go over the speech before delivering it?!

At least until he became King, it was known that King Frederik rarely if ever wrote his speeches and also that he did very little preparation on them.
That in contrast to Queen Mary, who usually write her own speeches - with some advise I imagine.
However, it is my impression that King Frederik at least when it's subjects he really cares for, does involve himself in drafting the speech, or perhaps he simply has a number of keywords scribbled down that he improvise from, because sometimes you can tell that these are his words.
Because he has himself on a number of occasions freely admitted that giving speeches is his major weakness and he is not at all comfortable with giving speeches.

- So yes, someone needs to find him a good speech-writer, especially in regards to the official speeches he is now required to give. And the big test is only 2½ months away: The New Year speech. His first New Year speech where he will be watched by everyone and also judged and compared to QMII.

Frederik has clearly made some strong improvements in giving speeches over time. His everyday agenda clearly shows he doesn't shy away. But yes for some, it will never be a strong suit.
Dull and boring doesn't mean he didn't prepare. Not every speech can be made your own. It requires balance
