Look forward. I am sure it was planned some time back, but was only just announced.

Wow…. I don’t think i have ever seen a state visit being publicly announced with such a short notice before…
I would think they didn’t want to announce it earlier as the president is basically a dictator so it would be problematic if it was announced earlier!

Wonderful new of a State Visit! The short notice is most likely due to security concerns and maybe wanting to wait until the latest possible moment just in case something caused the trip to be postponed/cancelled.

There is little doubt that this is due to security issues.
Why Egypt?
Egypt want investments.
Egypt has a distinct interest in the troubles in Gaza not spreading. And so has pretty much everybody else! It gets more complicated with the Islamist lightning and surprisingly successful campaign in Syria. No one want that to spread! It doesn't exactly help that North Sudan is a de facto Islamist country. On top of that things are still pretty chaotic in Libya!
On top of that one of the migrant routes from Africa to Europe go through to Libya and EU (and that of course includes DK) is very keen on getting Egypt to try and prevent that migrant stream from preferably entering Egypt at all.
Egypt have their own Islamist trouble makers and don't want even more, and EU don't want any subversive elements from entering EU across the Mediterranean either.
But the Egyptian is pretty rotten, so to help Egypt basically police a part of North Africa, they need funds and preferably investments as well.

That the Egyptian President is perhaps less than palatable, well... That's real politics for you. FX&QM won't be hosting less than ideal guests for the last time.

Muhler - is it true that there has never been a State visit from Egypt to Denmark? I looked on the DRF website which lists all incoming state visits from 1972 forward and there is nothing listed. So, at least there were no State Visits (in either direction) during QMII's reign.

And, do you think the DRF/Gov't will go all out for this visit?

Hmm, not that I'm aware off.
The Egyptian kingdom fell in the 1960's than Nasser took over and he was too Soviet-friendly and too anti-Israel to get an invitation.

QMII visited Egypt back in the late 70's IIRC, and basically had to be evacuated out due to serious unrest.
President Anwar Sadat could have been invited, as he was instrumental in a peace-agreement with Israel later on, but he was assassinated. And Egypt has been politically volatile pretty much ever since.
But Egypt along with Algeria, Tunisia and Morocco are at the present the stable nations along the North African shore. Lebanon is desperately trying to avoid getting involved in a full scale war with Israel not to mention that the economy has collapsed and now the Syrian regime is in danger of collapsing as well.
So yes, security politically speaking the Danish government has a lot to discuss with the Egyptian President. Especially as DK takes the chairman ship of EU in the latter half of 2025. But I imagine the Egyptian President will visit other EU countries as well.

Egypt is on the brink of bankruptcy so the president is going to visit European countries trying to take more loans to keep the state a float as much as possible!

According to the DRF website there was a state visit  to Egypt in 1986. Because Mubarak was another dictator with whom the western world was on good terms. As long as they are anti-communism and not islamistic ....
Dk wants to do business with Egypt and to put focus on Africa , so the prime minister of Dk was in Egypt in 2023 and now Egypt's president is coming to Dk, invited by the head of state but of course the government decides who is invited.

The Royal Couple receives HE the President of Egypt at Christian VII's Palace at Amalienborg and, together with the President, attends a parade of an honorary company of the Royal Life Guards, which has been drawn up for the occasion, at Amalienborg Palace Square.
At the welcome, the Royal Life Guards Band performs the Egyptian national anthem.

Wreath-laying at the Citadel At 9:15 a.m.
The King and Queen and HE the President of Egypt will participate in the wreath-laying at the Monument for Denmark's International Efforts after 1948 at the Citadel in Copenhagen.
After the reception, the Royal Couple, together with the President, will travel to Christian VII's Palace at Amalienborg in a carriage escorted by the Guard Hussar Regiment's Horse Squadron.

Arrival at Christian VII's Palace 9.40 am
The Royal Couple and HE the President of Egypt arrive in the carriage escorted by the Guard Hussar Regiment's Horse Squadron to Christian VII's Palace, where the Royal Couple greet the Egyptian delegation in the Grand Hall.
Christian VII's Palace was built in the years 1750-1754 for Chief Marshal AG Moltke. When the royal family became homeless after Christiansborg Palace burned down in 1794, Christian VII bought the palace. Today, Christian VII's Palace is used as a guest and representation palace, for example when foreign heads of state pay state visits to Denmark.

Tête-à-têtes in Eigtveds Pakhus At 1:00 PM,
HE the President of Egypt arrives at Eigtveds Pakhus and is received by Minister of Foreign Affairs Lars Løkke Rasmussen. The President participates in a series of tête-à-têtes with selected Danish business leaders.
Eigtveds Pakhus was built in the years 1748-50 under the direction of court architect Nicolai Eigtved, the architect behind Amalienborg and the urban planning of Frederiksstaden. Eigtved (1701-1754) was a prominent Danish architect and court architect, educated with support from Christian VI.
Today, Eigtveds Pakhus houses meeting, conference and representation rooms for, among others, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Business conference and launch of Danish-Egyptian trade forum At 2:10 p.m.
HM the King arrives at a business conference in Eigtveds Pakhus and meets HE the President of Egypt.
Together, the King and the President are launching a Danish-Egyptian trade forum with the participation of Danish and Egyptian companies and decision-makers.
At the opening, the King and the President, among others, will give speeches.

Gala dinner at Christiansborg Palace At 7:30 p.m.
The Royal Couple are hosting a gala dinner at Christiansborg Palace in honor of HE the President of Egypt, with the participation of HRH Princess Marie and Princess Benedikte as well as the government, the Egyptian delegation, representatives of Danish and Egyptian business, representatives of the Court and others.
At the gala dinner there will be speeches by the King and the President.

Saturday, December 7th

Visit to the Danish Parliament At 9:00 AM,
HE the President of Egypt will meet with, among others, the Speaker of the Danish Parliament, Søren Gade, in the Danish Parliament.
After arrival, the President is escorted to the Dialogue Room, where the President greets a number of members of Parliament, delivers a speech and participates in a number of conversations. The visit to the Parliament concludes with the President signing the Parliament's guest book.

Visit to Marienborg At 12:20 PM,
HE the President of Egypt will meet with Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen at Marienborg, where the President will, among other things, participate in a working lunch and sign the guest book.
The President and Prime Minister will subsequently participate in a press element in the Pavilion at Marienborg.
Marienborg was built around 1745 as a private summer residence. The name dates back to 1795, when the owner's wife, Marie Lindencrone, had the place named after her. After changing owners, the property was purchased in 1934 by Supreme Court attorney CL David, who in 1960 bequeathed the buildings, the area and furnishings to the state, which took over Marienborg on 1 January 1962.
Marienborg is today used, among other things, for representative purposes in the Prime Minister's Office.

Return event at Sølyst At 6:00 PM,
HE the President of Egypt will hold a return event at Sølyst with the participation of, among others, The King and Queen and HRH Princess Marie and Princess Benedikte.
The country estate Sølyst in Klampenborg was acquired in 1949 by the Royal Copenhagen Shooting Association, one of Denmark's oldest associations. Its history can be traced back to 1443, but the association has probably existed longer than that.

Sunday, December 8

Official farewell At 9:30 AM,
the Royal Couple bid farewell to HE the President of Egypt at Christian VII's Palace at Amalienborg, where signatures are signed on the window pane.

The reception is unusual. The honor guard of the Life Guard regiment will march past the Regent Couple and the President. Normally you inspect the honor guard at the airport.
I guess it's question of security. Because Amalienborg Square is easy to seal off and there are few high buildings anywhere near reasonable sniper range.
That the route with the carriage is published means nothing IMO. It'll probably be changed and is likely to even be changed while under way.
Fortunately the weather is cold and miserable so it will no doubt be a closed carriage, minimizing the risk of anyone being able to take a lucky shot.
The PM's official residence, Marienborg, is surrounded by a park, so a limited risk there as well.

A clear business and politics focus. No room for cuktural activities like we would normally see for state visits between monarchies.

Yep, there is a clear political agenda here. If he wasn't head of state the Regent Couple would hardly have been involved at all.

The cultural activities are mostly done by the spouses. It does not look like the President is accompanied by his wife.

The state visit has started this morning, December 6:

The Egyptian press people were cold!
They didn't realize that 3 degrees C in DK can be bitterly cold, as it is today.
Worse yesterday though.
Poor souls…. 3 degrees plus in Copenhagen can really feel like 30 degrees minus as soon as a little wind blows up 🥶😅

The DK press has been surprisingly careful about pointing out that this visit is a political visit first and foremost and that the Regent Couple really has no choice but to roll out the red carpet and smile. - And also present the Order of the Elephant to the Egyptian President.

Yes, King Frederik has awarded the President of Egypt the Order of the Elephant.

King Frederik has been awarded the Order of the Nile (in chain)

Queen Mary has received the Order of Al-Kamal (Supreme Class) - This is the order of Knighthood given to women.
Both Princess Marie and Princess Benedikte have also received the Order of Al-Kamal, but the level of First Class.
The Order of Kamal is also called the Order of the Virtues

The links above are from the official President's website that shows photos of the orders and provides a bit of historical information on each.
