Not sure if this is the right place for this discussion but since it ("the press made me do it") seems a complaint that is heard more often in numerous royal families, I thought this was the right place. If not...please move it to another place.

There are numerous examples of royals not being pleased with the interest of the press in their lives and often they are correct. Think f.e. about the pictures of a topless Catherine in the south of France, or the NotW scandal where the press hacked the phones of celebrities and royals.

However, more and more we see royals who blame the press for just about anything. Prince Harry comes to mind. Prince Laurent of Belgium is another example.
And now we have several members of the Norwegian RF (and a former member) who blame the press for all that goes wrong in their lives.
Marius who blames the press for his spiralling life. Around Christmas, MM complained how the press wrote about her role as a mother in the saga around Marius and most recently Ingrid-Alexandra with that incoherent instagram-account about being unjustly accused of something.

It comes across as royals who want to have their cake and eat it too: all the perks of being a royal but not the disadvantages of having to account for their actions to the public (and the press being the messenger; both on their actions and on the response of the public). I wonder if they don't see the danger in this; that the press can turn against them.

You see this most clearly with Harry: the Court and press have spent decades of building him up and once that court-protection was dropped and the press started writing about his antics and inconsistencies (in his interviews, in his book), the tides started turning.
The same could happen, and is already happening to some extent, in Norway where the press is starting to ask more critically how often the Court has lied to them about MM's dealings with Epstein. It is only a small jump to the overall question: if the court has lied about this, have they lied about more things?

It will be interesting to see how the Norwegian RF weathers these issues/ scandals. And if other RF's take note.

Back in 2012, photographs of Prince Harry, sans clothes, on a trip to Las Vegas, Nevada, leaked to the press and caused a stir.

Would you say that Princess Diana resented the press speculation about her marriage?

I do appreciate that discussions of royals’ issues with the press seem to have become less one-sided over the years. From what I remember of royal watcher discussions ten-plus years ago, there was an almost unanimous reflex to side with the royal in any royals-versus-news-media dispute, and to uncritically believe any accusations a royal made against the press. There seems to be more variety of opinions now.
