Royals and Religion

??? I'm not talking about you, I'm talking about people on social media mixing up the two Kings.
I'm no fan of Baudouin, even less so of his wife, but to compare him with Leopold is a bit much.

That being said, I retire from this conversation, Heaven forbid anything I say OFFENDS you again.
Dear Adda I am far from offended. I apologize for misunderstanding your comments.

Is his airplane the Pope said he will lauch the process of the Beatification of King Baudouin because he had the courage not to sign the Law allowing abortion.

As the Catholic Church in Belgium is in sharp decline ,the Beatification process for King Baudouin won't mean much to the general public and sadly won't have the same impact that such an act would have had 30-40 years ago.

The Dutch press mentioned that it was quite exceptional that it is the pope himself who will start the process. Normally these processes are advocated bottom-up.

King Felipe has maintained the staunch religious beliefs and respect for the Church that were likely passed to him from his mother Queen Sofia.

This is in spite of the apparent indifference of his wife and queen, which can't be all that easy in a marriage.🤔

The king is carrying on a tradition in the SRF that stretches back over 300 years ,it will be interesting to see if Leonor will follow in her father and other generations of the Bourbons.
Monarchy is ofcourse steeped in traditions ,whether some newer members like that or not!
Various members of the SRF have over the years participated in this Lenten observance.
Infanta Elena visited the Basilica of Jesus de Medinaceli

The fact that it is such an ancient Spanish Royal tradition is all the more reason that it would have been nice to see the queen of Spain there along with her husband. 🤔

when they married the king new that his future wife was not religious, so i don´t think that the most important thing in their relationship.

They used to rotate who visited the Basilica on the first Friday of Lent
The King ,Queen Sofia and the Infanta Elena are the most frequent.

Most members of the Spanish Royal Family are practicing Catholics. King Felipe VI and his sisters, as well as Queen Sofia and even King Juan Carlos, have always had strong religious beliefs and respect for the Catholic Church, so much so that a mass still takes place on Sundays in the crypt of the Zarzuela Palace.
The younger members of the family are also Catholic, both the children of Infanta Elena and those of Infanta Cristina. I believe that Princess Leonor and Infanta Sofia are also Catholic, as they were raised in that religion as well. Queen Letizia has for years shown respect for the Catholic Church and at times even seemed to be closer to the religion. She respects the Catholic Church despite not being religious.

From what I could notice from other threads, King Charles III participates in the mass every Sunday!

I never supposed he was such a regular churchgoer!

I often wonder of Queen Sofia will ever revert back to the Greek Orthodox church?

I doubt it; for the majority of her already long life she has been a Roman Catholic.

At the funeral of her late sister Princess Irene I noticed Queen Sofia was explaining parts of the Orthodox Service to her granddaughters.

I swear I read somewhere that Sofia still occasionally attends Orthodox services.

And when her time comes, priests of both rites will probably celebrate at her funeral.

The king and Queen Sofia have both unheld the SRF tradition of attending the annual Mass at the Basílica de Jesús de Medinaceli on the 1st Friday of Lent .
Other members too have attended Infanta Elena and the late Infanta Pilar too.
