Did the royal palace serve as the presidential palace during the second republic? Was it damaged badly during the civil war? Thanks!
 
The Original design for the Almudena Cathedral in Madrid.
I'm not sure if this gothic design would have worked with the facade of the Palacio Real.
The current exterior design of the cathedral works very nicely,its the interior I'm not so keen on.

I'm glad they decided to make it a 1883 'modern art' building than going medieval retro like on that draft. I just checked online it has a two of Franco's family members buried inside, his wife's Duchess of Franco title was removed recently by King Felipe:
