Remembrance Day Services 2: 2022 -

If you have answers, please help by responding to the unanswered posts.
Sad to see only the old Members of the Royal Family and only Prince William and Kate whose apparition was the 5th in 2024..

Another video of the Duchess today at the Armistice Day Service of Remembrance at the National Memorial Arboretum in Staffordshire

Its good that the Queen has made this into an annual engagement.
This appearance at the Field of Remembrance appears to be a priority for HM Queen Camilla. As the Royal Patron of the Poppy Factory since 2013, she's only missed one time which was in 2024 due to illness. The Duchess of Gloucester was there in her place.

How nice that George attended!
A good decision!

Here are some more photos of this evening:

BBC live coverage is just about to start. I hadn't realised that George would be attending. Growing up fast!

William's expected to be at the Remembrance Sunday ceremonies tomorrow, so I assume that he gets back from Brazil tonight. Flights from Belem aren't very frequent, and there mustn't have been one which got back in time for him to attend the Festival of Remembrance.

He arrived on an RAF jet with the pm two days ago so maybe they're returning together on the same plane.

It was only for the flight from Rio to Belem. William stayed longer in Brazil, he met the indigenuos representatives yesterday.

The PM was at the Festival of Remembrance last night as he (the government jet) left before William.

Live:
Royal Family lead the nation in commemorating the sacrifice of those who have served in the Armed Forces.

One of my favourite days in the yearly british royal calendar…

I cannot be alone who gets wet eyes hearing ”Flowers of the forrest”, ”Nimrod”, ”When i’m laid in earth”, ”The Supreme Sacrifice” etc

Impressive to see the 90 year old Duke of Kent still taking part and standing straight throughout the ceremony… Then you see the WW2 veterans and realizes that the Duke of Kent is not even nearly the oldest participant !

And the Veterans March Past always gets me as well… There is the real heroes

Here, on Tuesday Nov 11th, USA celebrates Veteran's Day just like the UK and remind everyone its about the end of WWII, plus other military conflicts that affected every nation.

The UK's Remembrance Day is so respectful of these veterans in those pics and articles. Here in the USA it has become a day to promote sales at the stores without touching the subject this is really about men and women that defended entire countries.

I love how Remembrance Sunday has very gently evolved over the years to include the families and descendants of service men and women, the many support organisations and crucially, the involvement of wider communities including those whose roots are from Commonwealth nations. Meanwhile, the dignity and simplicity of the service at the cenotaph remains largely the same.
Remembrance Sunday is something we can be rightly proud of as a nation when we seem to get so much else wrong.

I know there are some who see it as glorification of war and victory, that is why some refuse to wear the poppy, but that is a lack of understanding of the event. Anybody who listened to the interviews with the veterans of world war 2 will know it is not a glorification of war or victory. It is the honest interpretation of war and death.

As always this solemn event never fails to impress me. The sight of so many elderly veterans present in wheelchairs and others standing there, is so poignant.
As for the BRF. I was glad to see HRH the Duke of Kent there on the balcony with the Duchess of Edinburgh.

It is also worth to remember that this is a day that means a lot of things for different people…. Maybe it is a provocative thought… Then so be it because it is the truth…

While i have my utmost respect for the veterans marching past and the sacrifices they have made and the horrible memories and wounds many of them are carrying in their bodies and soul’s for the rest of their lives - it is also a day that not is a day of happiness for everyone…

Countless of eueopean citizens (and ofcourse also countless of citizens of other parts of the world) are descendants of people who were on the wrong side of history and who committed the worst imaginable war crimes and crimes against humanity…. That is not a small group of people… It it countless of millions… For many of those descendants this is also a day of heartbreak and painful memories of a family-history they don’t want to remember and absolutely don’t want to talk about or hear about….

I am not one of them myself but i have my utmost respect also for them… Because as important as it is that we remember, it is also often only one side of the history, the ”good side” and their descendants that we get to see on tv-channels and in the newspapers…. The countless of descendants of those who were on the ”wrong side” of the history is rarely seen, rarely heard… But they exist too, and many of them carries feelings of inherited guilt and inherited shame for something that a previous family-generation did…. I think these people also deserves a thought or two because you certainly won’t see them being interviewed on BBC or SkyNews…

The only word I will question the use of is happiness. I take your point regarding the views and feeling of others.
When you see film footage of VE day etc yes their is happiness and celebration that it was over, but as the years have passed there is the recognition of the sacrifice, if anything we should use it as a history lesson to try and prevent wars, never to let it happen again, but there have been conflicts since and we remember those people also.

It is a word i choosed deliberately because the feeling that a war has ended and peace has come to my country and my backyard is a feeling of an unbeliveable happiness that most of us who lives today will hopefully never get to experience…

That there is a lifelong trauma attached to that happiness, i hope noone doubts… At least noone should..

Sadly as we all now, the human memory is short and the world is moving in an anything but peaceful direction…

There is no direct flight, I suppose, from Belém to London. He would have to fly to Rio de Janeiro or São Paulo and then connect to London.

If he used a dedicated RAF plane rather than a commercial flight, he could fly straight from Belém back to London, but I guess that wouldn't look right coming back from COP 30 due to the carbon footprint.

You are correct , human memory is short and the world is a frightening place just now, with nobody anywhere learning from the past.
