I was surprised to see the Duchess of Edinburgh present. I think secondary to Princess Anne she is the hardest working royal.

Most of the senior royals have been attending for years now.I was surprised to see the Duchess of Edinburgh present. I think secondary to Princess Anne she is the hardest working royal.

Yes. Prince Philip’s foot sticking out as if he’s about to step off the plinth, is a very unusual stance to portray in a statue. I like both statues actually.
Yes it is unusual but at the same characteristic of the man I think.
Well, it seems people already forgot the horrors of war.Very moving seeing the remaining WW2 veterans - just 11 now.
I found the whole service particularly sobering today-given the awfulness of the global situation right now.

Honestly I find it incredible that there are still 11 British WW2 veterans in 2024. My parents are now in their eighties and they are the children of American WWII veterans.Very moving seeing the remaining WW2 veterans - just 11 now.

Six of those who attended were veterans of D-Day, meaning that the number of former Prime Ministers present was greater than the number of D-Day veterans ... which is quite strange. Both my grandfathers were part of the D-Day landings, but they've both been gone for many years now.Honestly I find it incredible that there are still 11 British WW2 veterans in 2024. Today's service at the Cenotaph was beautiful and poignant as always.
There are quite a few WW2 veterans still alive in UK, but sadly no longer many who are fit to travel all the way to LondonVery moving seeing the remaining WW2 veterans - just 11 now.

It all went well, as it always does. It's just sad that we never get to a point where there's peace. When I was a kid, there were still plenty of *First* World War veterans alive, and many Second World War veterans. When the Berlin Wall came down, we thought that maybe times were changing, but now I'm seeing men who are years younger than me, who fought in Afghanistan, taking part in the Remembrance Day events.
My dad was in WWII and died two years ago at age 96; you are right - there aren’t many still with usHonestly I find it incredible that there are still 11 British WW2 veterans in 2024. My parents are now in their eighties and they are the children of American WWII veterans.
