The documentary looks at Durek's health condition, especially his need for a kidney transplant and dialysis treatment.
Durek underwent a kidney transplant in 2012. Now he receives dialysis treatment at Drammen Hospital. He says at the film: "Getting dialysis is like a prison sentence for me. Three times a week I sit in a chair for four hours. I have no choice but to sit there or I will die. I could easily have a heart attack, and I already feel pain in my arm and chest. I have to get another kidney transplant, and the sooner the better".
ML says: "He's so much weaker than before, but it takes ten years before you get a kidney on that list. I've been tested, but I wasn't a match. So we need a living donor. I just pray that he gets one in time. They say you can have dialysis for five to ten years before you die. Before your heart fails".
Jon Anker Lisberg Sarpebakken of the National Association for Kidney Patients and Transplanters says that ML's claims are not true. Many people on dialysis don't have the opportunity to be transplanted, for health reasons. They have to be on dialysis for the rest of their lives, but it is entirely possible to live longer than ten years on dialysis. The average waiting time for those who received a kidney transplant in Norway in 2024 was about two years. It is serious and deeply problematic that misinformation of this type is emerging, it can create great fear among people with kidney disease and their relatives.
Durek is not listed in the Norwegian population register.
