Netflix Nordics confirms in an email to Se og Hør that the launch date of "Rebel Royals: An Unlikely Love Story" is September 16.
Durek has got a lot of comments to his Instagram about the title of the documentary. That he is not a royal etc.
Durek provides the following response:
"Both my wife and I are members of the royal family - and I am a royal sent from God. I live a different life because I am part of that family. I am also not responsible for the title - that is Netflix - so why are you coming after me? I am not in charge of the creative side. It is also about the family and the history of the royals."
Furthermore, Durek points out that he does not have the opportunity to receive a title by marrying Princess Märtha Louise. If Märtha were to become heir to the throne, he would be titled, which he does not want.

About the title of the documentary:
Royal expert Trond Norèn Isaksen believes this violates the agreement Märtha Louise made with the palace in 2022.
- Calling the documentary "Rebel Royals" and Verrett writing about a "royal story" on Instagram violates their obligation not to highlight any connection to the Royal House in commercial contexts, including media productions and social media channels.

I agree, it does seem to violate the spirit of the agreement but I guess the Sham Man will just say it related to their previous lives - don't they think they were Cleopatra and Mark Antony or some such rubbish?

yep, sent from God directly!

and Martha Lousie becoming the heir? Well... I dont know, I feel like the Norwegians would have a vote very quickly to get rid of the monarchy...

but then again they should be thankful God sent Durek to be with Martha Louise.

"Both my wife and I are members of the royal family - and I am a royal sent from God. "

See now I think the NRF needs to update their website again.

Time and time again Martha and Durek use their royal connections to commercialize, and Harald fails to give them any consequences. It's becoming a joke.
“Royal sent from God (shaman Durek)”
Thanks, Polyesco! I really needed a good laugh this morning 🤣

Swedish Aftonbladet's royal reporter Jenny Alexandersson about the documentary:
According to Nettavisen, the production team has over 4,000 hours of raw material. Jenny writes: "Now I'm both cynical and refined, but no, I'm sure we'll see the royal family glimpsed here and there in the documentary. After all, it's the royal aura that will attract viewers to the TV series. In just over two weeks, we'll find out just how much of a royal rebel Märtha and the shaman are – how much they and Netflix have dared to stretch the royal photo ban."

Nettavisen's royal expert Tove Taalesen:
Who has gained the most from the marriage – Märtha, Durek or perhaps even the royal house, which after all depends on publicity, good or bad.
The picture is clear: For Märtha, marriage is both private happiness and professional revitalization. For Durek, it is an upgrade of his own brand, with royal splendor and an entry ticket to a story he would otherwise never have been a part of. For the royal family, the calculation is far less favorable. They receive no gain, but must bear the risk.
The most interesting question is therefore not whether the marriage is real – there is little doubt that it is. The question is what happens when love also becomes a strategy. One year later, we have an answer: The marriage was Märtha's salvation, but the royal family's headache.

We have all felt that wedding planner's pain . . . .

I'm more curious to see ML's and Durek's reactions to the reviews of the documentary than the documentary itself. They don't appear to handle criticism lightly.

"I would like a royal wedding, because I am going to be a royal"

says it all really

The 'I am half reptilian and I wasn't sure if I'd end up with a man, woman or an alien' jist is what gets me.

He thinks he is a lizard? And if he met an alien he would be open to marriage?

His using the family for fame is the least of my worries.

The documentary will be surely on the press until the premiere and after that!

Aftenposten commentator Harald Stanghelle has seen the trailer. He describes the Netflix documentary as a purely commercial affair.
Does it violate the agreement with the royal family?
– Yes, as clearly as this affects the royal family, it does, Harald Stanghelle answers flatly.
NRK asked the royal family whether what appears in the trailer is in line with the agreement they have made with the couple. They haven't yet responded to the inquiry. NRK also contacted Märtha Louise's manager Carina Scheele Carlsen with questions about whether ML believes the documentary is in line with the agreement, and how she has ensured this. She hasn't yet responded.

Se og Hør's editor-in-chief Ulf Andre Andersen writes at his column among other things:
It's hard to see how this documentary doesn't once again put Harald and Sonja in the corner of shame. I'm not sure if there's anything to look forward to.
But I can reveal: I myself was invited to participate in the documentary. I accepted the interview, where the first question was: "Why do you and Se og Hør have so much against Durek?" The camera rolled for a long time, and Netflix demanded that I sign a non-disclosure agreement in which I committed myself not to speak about the documentary. Naturally, I refused to sign it. I have no idea what they did with the recording. Maybe the entire interview is still on the cutting room floor, but for me it gave an indication of what kind of story this could be.

I agree with those who thinks that the 3 year old ”agreement” with King Harald and Crown Prince Haakon has now been thrown out of the window completely…

When one side shows absolutely no interest to follow anything from it - and the other side never shows any consequences for it - not even once……it’s hard to come to any other conclusion than that the ”agreement” was just theatre, a pr-trick, and never intended to be followed….

As Märtha-Louise has stressed many times how important it is for her that her name must reflect that she is her fathers daughter - why not change it to Mrs Märtha-Louise Haraldsdatter then ?

I... really don't know what to think. this is so ill advised. I am sensing this will explode in just the same way as the H&M netflix saga did - it is just not a good look.

Despite Durek Verrett having employed public relations strategies very similar to those the Duchess of Sussex over the years (which I suspect is deliberate on Mr. Verrett's part), including a Netflix documentary aimed towards an American audience, it does appear from the trailer that Netflix will portray and market the Norwegian royal couple in a much more controversial if not outright harsh light, with the facepalm shot from the trailer seeming like the clearest sign of their approach in the Norwegian case.

I think we can guess the several Durek and Martha incidents and gossip that will be blown up in this doco. Netflix also just might go back to the controversies of Haakon falling in love with MM and wishing to marry her. That could be gist for the mill as well.

Swedish Aftonbladet's royal reporter Jenny Alexandersson writes at her column among other things:
The Princess Couple makes a Circus of the Royal Family
- It seems like everything is going to come to light: racism, accusations of fraud, strange healing sessions and the couple's sexuality. Märtha Louise and Durek Verrett have an innate hatred of the media. Yes, except in situations when it benefits them and when they want to make big money of course.
- From what I've seen of Durek and Märtha so far, a lot has felt like a game. I can't forget how Märtha suddenly starts shouting and waving at photographers at the wedding in Geiranger for no reason. The Netflix TV team followed close behind and I wonder if I just saw "content" being created or if Märtha really wanted to shoo the photographers away like a pack of sheep.
- What is clear is that the princess and the shaman are creating a circus out of the royal family with Netflix's help. The big question is whether she and Durek will drag people into the dirt to satisfy a hungry TV audience. What is clear is that the Netflix series could become one big advertising campaign for the shaman's expensive medallions (which allegedly protect people from illness) and Märtha's clothing company.

And here we go, about the documentary:

Durek Verrett out against the royal family: Did nothing to help me
Durek says that he has received harassment and death threats from people after he got together with ML.
– The fact that I was the first black man in a royal family in Europe is very difficult for people.
He says the heat increased after they had become engaged. He accuses the royal family of a lack of support.
– People always make comments like: “Did you bewitch her?” As if I used black magic on the princess. And the royal family? They didn't go out to the press and say anything nice about me. Which makes people think they just tolerate me.
- When I came into her family, her father, her mother and her brother didn't even know what racism was. It was hard, because they looked at me like I was crazy when I said racism existed.

Durek:
– When I met the king and queen, they stared at me, and it was completely silent. I was wearing a kimono and cowboy boots. I had no idea I was going to wear a suit. I thought I could be myself, as Märtha said.
However, that was not the case, because the royal couple hated Durek's clothes, he claims.
– Almost everything I did was wrong. And they always made that clear to Märtha. It wasn't: "Welcome to the family. We love and understand you." But: "What do you see in him?" claims.

Mentions "princess" every three minutes: Middle finger to the royal house.
In the recent Netflix documentary, the king's restrictions are defied a number of times.
The title of princess is used throughout the film. The word "princess" is used at least 34 times, on average about every three minutes. The name Durek is mentioned at least 37 times. The word "royal" appears even more often, 44 times. The visibility of the connection to the royal house is great. There are also a number of photos and videos from the Palace and the other members of the royal family.

"Rebel Royals" throws the royal couple under the bus and paints an unflattering picture of Norway
Märtha and Durek seem to be trying to convey throughout the documentary: They are two completely unique souls. Their love story transcends both time and space. But the road to the wedding has been bumpy, and conservative, sleazy and racist Norway has criticized every single antics the innocent couple has undertaken. “I don’t understand why people have to attack the man I love,” Märtha says at one point, “I have never doubted Durek.”

Via Märtha's manager Carina Scheele Carlsen, Märtha Louise and Durek state this:
"We both have a close and loving relationship with each member of the Royal Family. We care deeply for them, and it pains us sincerely if anything in this process has caused them pain or harm in any way."

Well, this seems to be even worse than I expected.

Although Norway is a lovely country, I very much doubt the King, Queen and Crown Prince were oblivious to the fact that racism exists as even in Norway there must be some of it.

I am not a great fan of royals doing a 'woe-is-me' act. Sure, they will have challenges but in general they are in a much more comfortable position in many ways than the vast majority of the population.

Derek will have been subjected to racist comments, I have no doubt about that, but what do they expect the poor King to do? The problem is with social media platforms which allow racist comments to stay up.

I am disappointed that Pss Martha-Louise allows her elderly parents to be treated like this. They have done nothing to deserve this. They have supported her through unconvential choices, choices which in some other royal families would probably have been resisted more strongly. And what is their thanks at age 88? She sells them out to make some quick cash.

Durek's claims are wrong.
He is a 'nuffsaid!
He is a 'nuffsaid, who happens to be darkskinned, but he is first and foremost a 'nuffsaid.
And that's why the Norwegian's dislike him.

Durek's premise is that he is darkskinned, ergo he cannot be a 'nuffsaid. But that would indeed be racist.

Anyway, this latest charm-offensive is unlikely to endear him to the Norwegians. But at least it gives the press something to write about while waiting for Marius trial.

I’m sorry but the image of the king and queen meeting the boyfriend of their daughter who is wearing a kimono and cowboy boots that’s pure comedy I wish I could see their reaction in that situation 😅🫠

The Royal House:
The conclusion from the royal house is clear: Märtha Louise and Durek Verrett's participation in the Netflix documentary "Rebel Royals" is a violation of the agreement they have with the royal house.
Communications manager Guri Varpe writes this in an email to NRK. She clarifies that the royal family did not want to contribute to the production.
The Palace also states:
"All people should have the right to tell their story. This also applies to Princess Märtha Louise and Durek Verrett. At the same time, the Royal House wants a clearer distinction between the activities of Princess Märtha Louise and Durek Verrett and the Royal House. This will be the topic of the conversations we will have in the future."
Netflix removed one clip of Haakon speaking with Durek at the wedding party only after the Royal House contacted them and requested it.
