Queen Mary's Daytime Fashion Part 2: November 2024 -

If you have answers, please help by responding to the unanswered posts.
Mary really does have a way of making the same old thing look different. The surprise of seeing her wearing a (gorgeous) coat that was between two or four inches shorter than the dress beneath was surprising but then we realise the strip of dress showing matched her hat and shoes it all became clear. Surprisingly clear! The grey is a soft, comfortable, grey and pairing it with a deep green coatis inspired and not just any old green coat, as the cut and style suit her perfectly and I am not sure whether the grey enhanced the green or the green enhanced the grey, but it looked amazing.

The addition of the matching grey cape/wrap was just the cherry on top.

I totally agree! The whole look is inspired! The sliver of grey of the skirt peeking through under the green coat brings the entire look together making it cohesive with the accessories. It all works together seamlessly. She looks elegant, classic and chic. Plus, the fact the entire look is comprised of repeats - some more than a decade old is even better!

Great look, despite the roll neck under the dress.

Yes, looks like she added a turtleneck underneath the dress. Must be cold . Also looks to me like she added a much bigger petticoat with maybe some crinoline for the skirt. I do miss her old hairdresser.

Good reuse of this dress for the NY court today - agree the poloneck looks off but the sensible considering the time of year & weather

Again, just perfect. That dress is so regal!

Nice gown but looks like she wore a turtleneck sweater underneath. Odd combination.

Loved the dress when she wore it the first time! The addition of the turtleneck, cold weather or not, ruins the elegance of the gown.
Agree! It's a beautiful dress but looks frumpy with the gloves and turtleneck. It looked much more elegant in Greenland last year!

Agree 100% - not sure why the turtle neck was added since the event was indoors.

She looks wonderful! Love this dress. Very elegant. I love the look head to toe. I don't get the issue with her hair. I think it looks lovely. Love the jewelry she pulled from the royal collection. The beautiful earrings and the engagement bracelet.

I think Queen Mary looked stunning.

However, knowing absolutely nothing about fashion I ask this: Could there be a practical reason for her wearing this turtleneck? We are in the middle of the flu and cold season.

So if you were a little under the weather, what would be a way to go about it if you are to wear a dress like this? Wear a turtleneck?

I would do what she did if she was feeling slightly under the weather, etc. it blended into the gown inconspicuously imo as it perfectly matched the color of the gown. Maybe she had a bit of a sore throat and wanted a little extra warmth.

That's exactly what I was thinking and I would do if I felt something coming but had things to do.

Have always loved it but much prefer the version with the jacket. No gloves today?

The second day was the best for Queen Mary. The first day, that dress reminds me of the house on the prairie wardrobe of CP Mette-Marit of Norway, and look frumpy and bad taste.
How ever, Queen Mary seem to try out most of the entailed foundation jewellery which always make even the worst outfit better imo.

Mary almost never fails and continues to shine where others appear rather lacklustre.
The queen also shows how creative she is with her accessories when choosing outfits.
